John K. Bleken, 56, Ettrick Wis. died suddenly at his home Saturday, February 17, 2001 He was born April 30, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wis., to Clarence an Viola (Decker) Bleken. He attended Gale-Ettrick schools and graduated in 1962. He was a veteran and served with the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper with the Army during the Vietnam era.
He married Judy Hogden May 30, 1981 in La Crosse, Wis. John worked for Mathy Construction Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1999. Me took pride in his vehicle and enjoyed the outdoors with golfing, fishing, playing cards and being with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church and was on the parish finance committee. He also was a member of Operating Engineers Local No. 139, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1920 in La Crosse and Ettrick American Legion Runnestrand-Pederson Post No. 354, and he was a faithful Packer fan.
Me is survived by his wife, Judy of Ettrick; one son David (Sandra) Barnhart and their daughter Danielle Leigh of Mauston, Wis.; one daughter, Deanna (Todd) Hanson and their three sons, Dakota Karl, Denton Jon, Dane Carroll and daughter, Tarryn Lynn of Mantorville, Minn.; three sisters, Mary (Dewey) Emmons of Copperas Cove, Texas, Nancy (Tom) Stellflue of Ettrick and Gloria (Gerry) Dale of Ettrick; one brother-in-law, Gene (Barbara) Hogden of Ettrick; eight special nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Richard Henreid.
Mass of Christian burial for John was Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ettrick. The Rev. Delbert Malin and the Rev. Marlene Pankonin officiated. Burial with military rites was in St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery. Fossum Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Kathenne D. Amunrud
Katherine D. Amunrud, 95, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.
She was born December 28, 1905 in Galesville to Carl F. and Emily (Dale) Dettinger. Katherine, a graduate of La Crosse Teachers College taught in Southern Illinois, Racine and Kenosha Co. Teachers College and in Trempealeau Co. After 36 years of teaching, she looked forward to retirement and hours of reading, gardening, sewing, knitting and quilting. In 1973 Katherine began to devote many dedicated hours and years as a RSVP Volunteer, first serving at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center, then with the La Crosse Chapter until year 2000. While living on a Dettinger family farm in Northfield, Wis. New Hope Lutheran Church conducted worship services in a quonset building on her farm as new facilities were constructed. Katherine served as secretary of this first parish council. After moving to La Crosse in 1992, she became a member of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Katherine is survived by her children Robert (Helen) of Creal Springs, Ill., Natalie (Donald) Schoenfeld, and Peter (Geri) of La Crosse. She was Gran to 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Edna and by her husband Lt. Col. Arnol Amunrud.
Funeral services were Monday, February 19, 2001 at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel. Rev. David Johnson officiated. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to New Hope Lutheran Church in Northfield, Wis.

Anne M. Farley
Anne M. Farley, 75, of Galesville, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2000 at Grand View Care Center, Blair, Wis.
She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Ontario, Canada to Isadore and Anna (Prezzo) Mezzanotte. On February 23, 1946 she married Robert J. Farley in St. Paul, Minn. He died in 1957.
Survivors are 3 children, Corky Farley of Cumberland, Wis., Ken Farley of Galesville, Cheryl (Dennis) Farley-Moe of Farmington, Minn.; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many friends.
Besides her husband, 8 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel. Fr. Robert Wagner officiated. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery on Losey Blvd., La Crosse, Wis.
Bernice Anderson
Bernice Anderson, 99, Marinuka Manor, Galesville, Wis., and formerly of 520 East Sanborn Street, Winona, Minn., died Wednesday, November 15, 2000 at the manor.
Coral Bernice Sacia was born on February 20, 1901 in La Crosse County, Wis., the daughter of Frances Ann (Johnson) and Lincoln Byron Sacia.
She married Albin Silas Anderson on May 1, 1926 in Winona. They lived in Winona, where they were members of McKinley United Methodist Church. Silas died on March 17, 1982.
She is survived by one son, John Anderson, Sparta, Wis.; two daughters, Mary Anderson and Bonnie (Cyril) Dobis, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren including a granddaughter raised by Bernice, Barbara (John) Volkman of Madison, Wis; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Edna Wallum, Nell Hanson and Iris Sacia; and two brothers Lyle and Warren Sacia.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 18, 2000 at the Green Mound Cemetery, Holmen, Wis. Rev. Shirley Duncanson of McKinley United Methodist Church of Winona officiated.

Marlene Aleckson
Marlene Aleckson, 65, of Melrose, died Friday, January 21, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Marlene was born April 18, 1934 to Leonard and Evelyn (Parlow) Jessie in Sparta, Wis. She attended area schools.
Marlene was a secretary at the Melrose-Mindoro High School from 1967 until her death.
She was a member of South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church and a member of the Melrose Legion Auxiliary.
On December 29, 1973 Marlene married Dean Aleckson in the Burr Oak Parsonage.
Marlene is survived by her husband Dean; 3 sons, Jeff (Betty) Wegner of Ettrick, Rick (Char) Wegner of La Crosse, Wis. and Gregg (Susan) Wegner of Chesapeake, Va; 7 grandchildren, Sarah, Jenna, Tom, Jordan, Kim, Jeremy and Kristeen; a sister, Jane (Larry) Blaken of Melrose and a brother Donavon (Nancy) Jessie of Melrose. She was preceded in death by a brother and her parents.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick. Rev. John Ashland officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Debra Jean Arntson
Debra Jean Arntson, 45, of Trempealeau, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998 in her home. She was born March 23, 1953 in La Crosse, Wis. to Eugene and Ann (Shrake) MacPhetridge. Survivors include 2 daughters Kerri and Heather; 3 sisters Kathy of Bangor, Wis; Lori of Franklin, Wis; Cindy of Trempealeau; a brother Ronald of Galesville; and a grandchild.
Her body was cremated. A memorial visitation was Saturday, December 5, 1998 at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville. Burial will be at a later date in Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville.
Douglas H. Sacia
Douglas H. Sacia, 78, of Galesville, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998 in Lakeview Health Center, West Salem, Wis. He was born April 1, 1920 in Galesville to Percy and Mary (Howard) Sacia. On September 9, 1941 he married Elizabeth "San" Ann Carlson in Trempealeau, Wis. Doug farmed in the Galesville area with his cousin Leon prior to retirement.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Galesville, where he was a past elder, a past member of the Galesville Curling Club and Trempealeau County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his devoted wife "San" of Galesville; a son James (Marlys) of St. Croix Falls, Wis; a daughter Judith (William) Montgomery of Boca Raton, Fl.; 5 grandchildren; 4 grt. grandchildren; and a sister Betty Wegmann of Brookfield, Wis.
Funeral services were Friday, December 4, 1998 at First Presbyterian Church in Galesville. The Rev. Dr. R. Steven Krueger officiated. Burial was in Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville.
