Archie Ray Mallo, 81, formerly of Hannibal, died Monday, May 24, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he had resided for one month. Military graveside rites were held in Arco Cemetery in Arco, Idaho, on Friday, May 28.
Archie R. Mallow was a mechanic in the Air Force and served in the islands of the Pacific during World War II. He worked in nuclear power plants near Arco for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Nora Wakely of Idaho Falls; two sons, Kenneth of Moore, Idaho, and Guy of Rigby, Idaho; two sisters, Lorraine Sharp of Polson, Mont., and Hazel Williams of Hannibal; two brothers, George of Oklahoma City and Irving of Phillipsville, Calif.; grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; one son, Leon; two brothers, Guy and Hughie; and two sisters, Gladys Ruse and Winnie Goriesky.
William Schoenberger
(1902-1999)
William C. Schoenberger, 96, Medford, died Saturday, May 22, at Memorial Hospital in Medford. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 25, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church with Rev. William Van DeKreeke officiating.
Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery.
Poklasny Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
William C. Schoenberger was born November 14, 1902, in Oshkosh to the late John and Mary (Andrasko) Schoenberger. His marriage to Rosalia Jungwirth took place on June 22, 1926, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. She died on October 27, 1992.
He was a carpenter by trade. He had worked at Precour Construction for nearly 19 years and at Badge Concrete Construction for four years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and of the Local Carpenters Union.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence Raddatz of San Diego, Calif.; three sons, William (Mary) of Appleton, Richard (Susan) of Onalaska and Paul (Pat) Schoenberger of Medford; one sister, Clara Mirkes of Oshkosh; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary, Caroline, Anna, and an infant sister; and four brothers, Charles, Albert, Joseph, and an infant brother.
Paul H. Giese
(1914-1999)
Paul H. Giese, 84, Sheldon, died Friday, June 4, at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith with Rev. Brent Berkesch officiating.
Burial was held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Military rites were conducted by the Sheldon American Legion Post 316.
Paul H. Giese was born September 7, 1914, in Medford to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Giese. He served in the military for four years. On February 17, 1945, he married Meta H. Kaufman in Lincolnwood, Ill.
He farmed in the Jump River and Sheldon areas. He was also a fire warden for McKinley Township for 35 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Meta; two daughters, Carol (Kenneth) Winger of Sheldon and Dorothy Mortimer of Cameron; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Olga L. Hoeft
(1901-1999)
Olga Louisa Hoeft, 98, of Abbotsford, died Tuesday, June 1, at Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford with Rev. Paul C. Hunsicker officiating.
Burial took place in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Schaurer, Arvin Gosse, Joe Meyer, Udell Passehl, Eugene Graffunder, and Dale Steinke.
The former Olga L. Steinke was born March 1, 1901, in the Town of Mayville, Clark County, to Herman and Bertha (Durbarg) Steinke. Her marriage to Theodore August Hoeft took place on June 14, 1919, in Milan.
She and her husband farmed in the Town of Holton until 1937. They then moved to Chippewa Falls and she worked at Presto Industries of Eau Claire. She retired and they moved to Abbotsford in 1959. There she was employed with the former Miller Bakery. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and quilting.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include one son, Willard (Mary Lou) Hoeft of Winter; a daughter, Dorothy Harley of Maplewood, Minn.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore on December 8, 1982; one son, Howard A. Hoeft; three brothers; and three sisters.
Emma O. Krause
(1919-1999)
Emma Ottilie Krause, 79, of Rib Lake, died Tuesday, June 1, at the Rib Lake Health Care Center in Rib Lake where she had resided since 1995. Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss with Rev. Lauren Ley officiating.
Burial took place in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark, John, Wayne, Renee, and Shari Krause, Anne Mattson, and Mike Lindau.
Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford handled arrangements.
The former Emma O. Heimbach was born June 27, 1919, in Abbotsford to John and Ottilie (Neske) Heimbach. On December 14, 1940, she married Soloman Krause in Waukon, Iowa.
She and her husband farmed in the Town of Green Grove. In 1978, they moved to Marshfield and later to Prentice. She enjoyed baking, especially pies. She also enjoyed her flower garden of roses and geraniums and was an avid crossword puzzle worker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss.
Survivors include her husband, Soloman of Prentice; two sons, Greg (Pat) of Prentice and Neil (Janet) Krause of Curtiss; a daughter, Carol Lindau of Marshfield; one sister, Gertrude Koffarnus of Worthington, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, John and Walter Heimbach.
Walter M. Lang
(1910-1999)
Walter M. Lang, 89, of Medford, died Monday, June 7, at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford where he had resided for over five years. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Medford with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating.
Burial will take place in Medford Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Skelton, Mark Stepanski, David Zietlow, Bruce Gumz, Lyman Lang, and Marvin Lang Jr.
Visitation at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford will be from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, and again at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.
Walter M. Lang was born March 2, 1910, in Ryder, N.D., to George and Amelia (Pietsch) Lang. He moved to Medford in his youth and attended area schools and then worked as a farm hand. His marriage to Ada E. Nelson took place on December 29, 1936, in Beloit. She died on December 13, 1994.
He worked at Hurd Millwork in Medford for a period of time. During World War II, he worked in the ship yards at Manitowoc. In 1948, he returned to Medford and worked as a painter and decorator until retiring in 1970.
He was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Men's Club of Immanuel Church and of the Medford Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include a daughter, Charmagne (David) Tice of Cedarburg; two brothers, Marvin (Lou) of Medford and Norman (Milly) Lang of Wausau; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Victor; and other siblings in infancy.
Robert J. May
(1922-1999)
Robert J. "Doc" May, 76, of Medford, died Sunday, June 6, at Memorial Hospital in Medford where he had been a patient for one week. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 11, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Rev. Dennis Meulemans officiating.
Cremainal interment will follow in Medford Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ivan Bootzin, Bob Klinner, Jack Ziehlke, Elmer Stellick, Robert Larson, and Lee Bix.
Visitation at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford will be from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, with a Parish and Knights of Columbus Prayer service at 7 p.m.
Robert J. May was born August 5, 1922, in Medford to Joseph and Elizabeth (Bix) May. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and graduated from Medford High School in 1940. After graduating from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1944, he served in the US Army in the Philippines and later in Japan where he was a regimental optometrist. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Medford and married the former Dorothy Aldrich on May 1, 1947.
He was a Doctor of Optometry in Medford for 35 years, retiring in 1981. In retirement, he enjoyed classic car collecting and attending antique car shows. He also was a World War II history and automobile history enthusiast.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Medford Council 1744 Knights of Columbus, the Landua-Jensen American Legion Post 147, and the Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post 5729. He was a charter member of the Wausau Antique Auto Club, the Medford Model Railroad Club, the Wisconsin Optometric Association, and the Wisconsin Valley Optometric Association. He was a past member of the Medford Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Medford.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy May of Medford; a daughter, Maureen A. May of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Mark (Rosemarie) May of Marshfield; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Hilliard in infancy and Earl May.
