Edna E. Knight, 83, of the Town of Hill, died Thursday, August 12, at her home under the care of Hope Hospice. Funeral services were held Monday, August 16, at First Lutheran Church in Ogema with Rev. Tim Schueler officiating.
Burial was held in Mount Olive Cemetery in Westboro. Pallbearers were Joseph, John, Scott, and Eric Wojcik, Rocky and Wade Knight, and Keith Willms.
Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home in Rib Lake was in charge of arrangements.
The former Edna E. Pratt was born January 26, 1916, in Tampico, Ill., to Ralph and Hilda (Olson) Pratt. She attended area schools in Tampico and was a school mate of Ronald Reagan while attending high school there. Her marriage to Melvin Knight took place in August 1932 in Tampico.
She and her husband farmed in Illinois and in 1944, moved from Dixon to Wisconsin where they also farmed. She also drove school bus for the former Leavitt Creek School, worked at the former Gem Products shoe factory in Rib Lake and was an Avon representative. She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Texas and the South. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts, and fishing.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church and of the Hill Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin; three sons, Everett (Mary Jo), Arlie (Carol) and William Knight, all of Ogema; a daughter, Sharon (Joe) Wojcik of Westboro; three sisters, Alice Blackert of Princeton, Ill., Emma Mae Beard of Hemet, Calif., and Martha Plautz of Zebulon, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Alice Pratt of Profitstown, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Everett Pratt; and one granddaughter, Laura Knight.
Betty Lou Lentz
Word has been received of the death of Betty Lou Lentz of Gamaliel, Ark., who died July 29, 1999 in St. Louis, Mo.
She is survived by her husband, Rhinehart "Rhiney" Lentz, formerly of the Withee area; a son, Randy (Colleen) Lentz of Curtiss; three daughters, Vicki (Rick) Faude of Withee, Wendy (Steve) Lund of Geneva, Ill., and Joanie (Dennis) Helfert of Plainfield, Ill.; a son-in-law, Lannie Faude of Withee; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother; and two daughters, Jacquelin in 1957 and Colleen in 1994.
Melvin E. Olson
(1924-1999)
Melvin Edward "Ole" Olson, 74, of Medford, died Saturday, August 14, 1999 at his residence under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service was held Monday, August 16, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford with Rev. Roy Williams officiating.
Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home in Medford assisted the family.
Melvin E. Olson was born October 2, 1924, in Medford to Oscar and Alma (Christianson) Olson. He attended the Hillside and Rib Lake grade schools and graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1942. During World War II, he was employed at a defense factory in Milwaukee. He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout where he received a Bachelor's degree in industrial arts in 1949 and a Master's degree in 1952.
On June 24, 1950, he married Elaine Marie Johnson at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Waupaca. He was employed as an industrial arts teacher at Milwaukee Technical High School from 1949 until retiring in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, and cribbage.
He was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church and had been very active at St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church in Greendale. He was a retired member of the Milwaukee Industrial Arts Association, the Wisconsin Education Association and the Milwaukee Education Association and a former member of the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; one son, Dan Lee (Sharon) Olson of Medford; a daughter, JoEllen Marie (Rick) Rhoden of New Berlin; a brother, Wayne (Karen) Olson of Greendale; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James Oscar Olson at birth.
Virginia M. Baker
(1917-1999)
Virginia Mary Baker, 81, Gilman, died Saturday, May 8. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 12, at Gilman Funeral Home in Gilman with Rev. Jerry Meyer officiating.
Burial took place in St. Mary's Cemetery in Huron. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
The former Virginia M. Poulin was born November 19, 1917, in Cloquet, Minn., to Joseph and Clara (Osborne) Poulin. She moved with her family to Milwaukee and grew up there. Her marriage to Clyde Baker took place in Milwaukee.
She and her husband lived in Milwaukee until moving to Gilman in 1991.
Survivors include three daughters, Delores (William) Baker of Gilman, Jeanie (Jerry) Dohm of Eau Claire and Sandy (John) Gasparetti of Oak Creek; two sons, Clyde Jr. (Marilyn) of Germantown and Robert (Lynne) Baker of Cascade; two sisters, Clara Fischer of Wautoma and Mae June Jensen of Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde in November 1998; and seven brothers and sisters.
Teresa M. Dingwall
(1905-1999)
Word has been received of the death of Teresa M. Dingwall, 93, formerly of Medford, who died April 27, 1999 at Shawano.
Funeral services were held April 29 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville with Rev. Mark J. Schommer officiating. Burial was held in Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville.
Teresa was born May 12, 1905 in the Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County. She worked at Eddie's Bakery in Medford for almost 20 years.
Vernice T. Herman
(1915-1999)
Former Gilman resident Vernice Theresa Herman, 83, of Sun Prairie, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Funeral services were held Friday, May 7, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman with Rev. James Bartelme officiating.
Burial was held in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Gilman. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Visitation and a Rosary service were held at Gilman Funeral Home in Gilman.
The former Vernice T. Wood was born May 24, 1915, in Aniwa to the late George and Mary (Stroka) Wood. She grew up in the Donald area. Her marriage to Anton "Peanuts" Herman took place on September 4, 1933, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He died in 1983.
She and her husband moved to Milwaukee in 1941. In 1971, they retired and returned to Gilman. She moved to the Madison area over a year ago.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Bruneau of Crestview, Fla., and Joan (Robert) Dunn of Milwaukee; one son, Michael (Veronica) Herman of Madison; four sisters, Tillie Wesenberg of Gilman, Sally Kmiecik of Franklin, Ethel (Edward) Lang of Mauston, and Pat (Emil) Samplawski of Montana; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Roger; three brothers, Albert, Daniel and LaVerne Wood; and one sister, Kathleen Hopp.
Frieda E. Klein
(1905-1999)
Frieda Emma Klein, 93, formerly of Rib Lake, died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church in the Town of Wien with Rev. Roger Moldenhauer officiating.
Burial took place in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Punke, Lloyd Schultz, Greg Stark, Norman Witucki, Leonard Barnowski, and Randy Koehler.
Kraemer Funeral Home in Edgar was in charge of arrangements.
The former Frieda E. Zuleger was born November 5, 1905, in Medford to Otto and Mathilda (Frischman) Zuleger. Her marriage to George Klein took place on August 27, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey.
She and her husband lived in Rib Lake until 1946. They then moved to the Town of Wien where they farmed until 1980. She enjoyed raising gladiolas.
Survivors include her husband, George of Abbotsford; two sisters, Ann Ledesma of Medford and Hildegarde Bosse of Green Bay; and three brothers, John and Hilbert (Frances), both of Medford, and Alvin Zuleger of Forest Lake, Minn.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Frank Zuleger.
