Ann L. Konsella, 86, of Gilman, died Wednesday, May 12, at Zastrow Care Center in Gilman. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Nelson officiating.
Burial took place in Holy Family Cemetery in Stanley.
Gilman Funeral Home in Gilman handled the arrangements.
The former Ann L. Shortell was born June 27, 1912, in Kimball, S.D., to Patrick and Anna (Tooney) Shortell. The family moved to southern Wisconsin in 1919 and later to a farm in the Thorp area. Her marriage to August Konsella took place on September 4, 1935, at St. Mary's Church in Stanley. He died on May 18, 1982.
She and her husband moved to a farm in the Town of Cleveland in 1936 and farmed there for many years.
Survivors include a brother, Vernon Shortell of King, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Dale, Frank, and Alvin; and three sisters, Marjorie Konsella, Eleanor Shortell and Lillian Olson.
Ellen Osolkowski
(1925-1999)
Ellen Martha Osolkowski, 73, of Medford, died Sunday, May 16, at her home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Rev. Dennis Meulemans officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Holway. Pallbearers will be Robert, Neil and Christopher Blume, Jason Mengel, David Casey, and Randy Busse.
Visitation at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, with a Rosary service at 6 p.m.
The former Ellen M. Blume was born June 29, 1925, to Ludwig and Ann (Heil) Blume. Her marriage to Joseph M. Osolkowski took place on October 25, 1947, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen.
She and her husband lived in Milwaukee where he was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 33 years. They retired in 1980 and moved to Curtiss. After the death of her husband on October 10, 1995, she moved to Medford. She enjoyed reading and crocheting.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda (David Casey) Osolkowski of Rib Lake, Rita Osolkowski of San Francisco, Calif., and Ruth Mengel of Medford; a son, John (friend Colleen) Osolkowski of Medford, Ore.; two brothers, her twin Alfred of Dorchester and Arthur Blume of Mosinee; one sister, Catherine (Eugene) Purgett of Germantown; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by many brothers and sisters.
Frieda M. Peter
(1906-1999)
Frieda Magedaline Peter, 93, formerly of the Town of Deer Creek, died Saturday, May 15, at Mount View Care Center in Wausau. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford with Rev. Raymond Connor officiating.
Burial was held in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Duwayne and Bryon Gumz, Terrie and Dale Fiedler, and Bruce and Robert Peter.
The former Frieda Weinke was born January 3, 1906, in the Town of Stettin, Marathon County, to the late Julious and Martha (Wendorf) Weinke. Her marriage to Henry Peter took place on June 9, 1926, at Stettin Lutheran Church.
She and her husband farmed in the Town of Deer Creek until 1954 when they moved to Abbotsford. After the death of her husband, Henry on April 28, 1969, she moved to Colby and lived with her daughter, Elaine, for 25 years. She later moved to Wausau to be with her son, Alfred. She entered the nursing home October 19, 1998.
Survivors include her daughters, Adeline (Eugene) Fiedler of Two Rivers and Elaine (Leonard) Gumz of Colby; her son, Alfred of Wausau; one brother, Alfred (Arleen) Weinke of Rib Lake; one sister, Edith (Henry) Lehman of Wausau; a sister-in-law, Margaretta Weinke of Park Falls; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Erna Remus; one brother, Fred Weinke; and two great-grandchildren.
Viola Schmidt
(1908-1999)
Viola "Vi" Schmidt, 91, of Medford, died Friday, May 14, at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford where she had resided for 10 days. Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford with Rev. Roy D. Williams officiating.
Burial took place in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Norman Franck, Jonathon and Raymond Griesbach, Jim Messman, Clarence Zirngible, and Donald Walworth.
The former Viola Mathias was born January 6, 1908, in Janesville to Bert and Julia (Roberts) Mathias. In 1914, she and her parents moved to Taylor County and she attended Medford area schools. Following her education, she farmed and did woods work in the Town of Grover, and also transported children to school. She moved to Milwaukee in the late 1930s and was employed in a tannery and also worked in restaurants.
She married Frank J. Schmidt on September 4, 1943, in Milwaukee. They returned to Taylor County and farmed in the Town of Molitor and later in Lublin. She had also been employed at various restaurants including Milly's Bowling, the Coffee Cup and the Pals Cafe, all in Medford. In 1957, they retired and moved to the Town of Medford. They moved to the City of Medford in 1970. She enjoyed crocheting, quilt making and needlepoint.
She was active in the Happy Americans Club and its nutrition program and also volunteered at The Little Store in Medford.
Survivors include a son, Harold (Melanie) Schmidt of Michigan City, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank on May 8, 1990; two brothers, Herbert in infancy and Homer Mathias; and four sisters, Hazel Griesbach, twins Dora Griesbach and Dorothy Hoeve, and Mary Walworth.
David J. Strebig
(1943-1999)
David J. Strebig, 56, Medford, died Thursday, May 13, at University Hospital in Madison. Visitation at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford was held on Wednesday, May 19.
Cremainal interment was held in Medford Evergreen Cemetery.
David J. Strebig was born April 4, 1943, in the Town of Molitor to Irvin Paul and Ruth Bertha (Frahner) Strebig. He attended Immanuel Christian Day School and graduated from Medford High School in 1961. He then entered the US Army and also served with the National Guard following his discharge.
He was employed in Spencer for a period of time and was currently employed at Hurd Millwork in Medford. He was a part-time local musky fishing guide for many years and had written several publications on musky fishing. In his early years, he enjoyed auto racing and currently enjoyed archery shooting.
He was a member of the Local Carpenters & Joiners Union.
Survivors include a sister, Diana (Roy) Schmidt of Waterford; and three nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Olga Ustianowski
(1917-1999)
Olga Ustianowski, 82, formerly of Lublin, died Saturday, May 15, at Oakbrook Manor in Thorp. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin with Rev. James Bartelme officiating.
Burial took place in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Zuber, Jim Penk, Ed Liszewski, Louie Stokosa, Stanley Tokoz, and Joe Szepeniec.
Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp was in charge of arrangements.
The former Olga Stahura was born February 8, 1917, in Collinsville, Ill., to the late Martin and Caroline (Hallop) Stahura. Her marriage to Phillip Ustianowski took place on June 14, 1947, at Maternity Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicago, Ill. He died on April 23, 1990.
She and her husband moved to Lublin in 1966 and farmed in the Town of Roosevelt. She became a resident of Oakbrook Manor this past March.
Survivors include her children, George Ustianowski of Altoona, Paul Ustianowski of Thorp and Pat Tyler of Lublin; three sisters, Julie Kowoski of Skokie, Ill., Mildred Stahura of Chicago and Helen Stahura of Illinois; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John.
Elva Drolshagen
(1914-2001)
Elva M. Drolshagen, 87, Medford, died Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Memorial Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Rev. Dennis Meulemans officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Little Black.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the church with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Hemer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
