EAST TROY -- Ben W. O'Leary, of East Troy, WI, found peace Sun., Nov. 17, 2002, at Lakeland Health Care Center at the age of 83 years. He was born to parents Bernard and Mary (nee Utter) on June 19, 1919, in East Troy. He also attended school in East Troy. On Sept. 11, 1948, he married his bride, Jeanette (nee Loth) at St. Peter's the Apostle Parish, East Troy, and has continued to be a lifelong resident. For all of his 83 years, Ben was a cattle farmer and also worked for Trent Tube for 30 years.
Ben is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his children: Dennis (Margaret) of East Troy, Christine Ziemendorf of Lake Mills, Nancy (Jim) Lightfield of East Troy, and Dick (Kathy) of Mequon; grandchildren: Roberta, Jamie, Todd, Laurie, Angela, Amy, Brian, Katie, Hannah, and Elizabeth; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, 3 sisters, and a son-in-law.
A funeral Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Wed., Nov. 20, 2002, at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1981 Beulah Ave., East Troy, with a visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Fr. Larry Chapman will officiate. Private interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorials to Lakeland Health Care Center are appreciated. Pennycook, Warren S.
April 8, 1948 - November 24, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Warren S. Pennycook, age 54, Janesville, died Sun., Nov. 24, 2002, at University Hospital, Madison, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident which occurred on Nov. 12, 2002, near Milton. Warren was born in Janesville on April 8, 1948, the son of Stanley and Edna (Kersten) Pennycook. He graduated from Milton High School in 1966. He married Phyllis Van Landingham on March 6, 1971, in Janesville. Warren farmed in the Janesville-Milton area and was also employed as a salesman for A.B.S., Terra, Landmark and more recently Bullseye Agronomy Services. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Janesville, Community Antique Tractor Pullers, and Wisconsin C.C.A. Warren formerly served as a Janesville Township supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Pennycook of Janesville; 4 sons: Adam (Audra) Pennycook of Milton, Jason (friend, Heidi Olson) Pennycook, Greg (Tiffany) Pennycook and Mark Pennycook, all of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Justin and Courtney Pennycook; 3 sisters: Ruth Pennycook of Rockton, IL, Jane Pennycook and Lois Pennycook, both of Janesville; his mother-in-law, Marguerite Van Landingham of Janesville; his brother-in-law, Phillip Van Landingham of Beloit; and an aunt, Dorothy Smyth of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Warren was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law, Richard Van Landingham.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., Nov. 29, 2002, at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Parker Dr., Janesville, with Pastor Judi Huseth officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Center Township. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville.
Potter, Jennifer L. Spencer
August 4, 1965 - November 29, 2002
JANESVILLE/MADISON -- Jennifer L. Spencer Potter, age 37, of 3109 Churchill Dr., Madison, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2002, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center, Fitchburg, WI. She was born Aug. 4, 1965 in Janesville, the youngest child of Harold T. and Marjorie H. (Glende) Spencer. She attended school in Janesville and was a graduate of Janesville Craig High School, Class of 1983. She attended Blackhawk Technical College and received certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. At the time of her death, Jenny was employed as a CNA at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center in Fitchburg for HospiceCare, Inc. Jenny loved the outdoors and especially loved her pets. She also enjoyed projects around her home and had remodeled her home with her own skills and talents. She also very much enjoyed spending time on her computer and playing computer games. She was an advocate for those with autism and spent countless hours working on their behalf.
Jenny is survived by her loving partner, Michelle Mackey of Madison; her daughter, Caitlyn Potter; her 2 step-children, Gerald and Kendra Mackey, all at home; her mother, Marjorie Spencer; her 2 sisters, Pamela (Michael) Schroeder and Kimberly (Anthony) White; her grandmother, Helen Glende; her nieces and nephews: Heather, Adam, Sarah, and Spencer White, all of Janesville; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. She will be especially missed by her faithful companion, her dog Keelo. Jenny was preceded in death by her father, Harold T. Spencer; her grandfather, Adolph O. Glende; and by her brother, Randy Spencer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 3, 2002, at the GRACE MINISTRIES, 1509 S. Grant Ave., with Rev. Mike Bachmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Monday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-OVERTON FUNERAL HOME, 15 N. Jackson St., or on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at GRACE MINISTRIES. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in her name may be made to HospiceCare, Inc.
Jenny's family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff of Meriter ICU for all their care and support, and also to her second family and co-workers at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center for making Jen's last couple days so peaceful and loving. You made it "home" to her in many ways.

MADISON -- Virginia Elizabeth Rose, age 93, passed on to the other side peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2002, at the Meriter Health Center, with her daughter Virginia Jean Rose by her side. Born in Chicago on April 30, 1909, she was the daughter of William James and Margaret Lamont McGowan of Belfast, Ireland. A woman of extraordinary generosity, grace, and elegance, Virginia was a creative spirit who loved art, music, sewing, and interior design. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1927 and subsequently attended business school in Madison prior to her employment at Farmers Mutual Insurance Company (American Family). Her love of music included voice lessons, piano, and a performance in the opera "Madame Butterfly". In her later years she was known for her spontaneous singing, especially her mantra "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean".
One of 7 siblings, she is survived by her brother, William J. McGowan of Milwaukee; her sister, Kathlyn Zitzer of Janesville; cousins, nieces, nephews, and a grandson, Nicholas Lamont Rose-Meyer (UW-Platteville). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jean Fred Rose, whom she married in 1943; her sisters, Gertrude Struebin and Margaret Truesdill; and her brothers, James and Hamilton McGowan.
A small family gathering will be held at a later date in Janesville where she will be buried next to her parents. GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, Madison, is assisting the family. Her daughter wishes to extend her gratitude and appreciation to the staff and residents of Meriter Health Center for their dedication and compassion.

Schwenk, Bernard E.

GENOA CITY, WI -- Bernard E. Schwenk, age 79, of Genoa City, WI, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2002, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. He was born on Oct. 31, 1923, in Harvard, NE, the son of the late George and Melba Mickel Schwenk. On March 1, 1947, in Kelso, WA, he was united in marriage to Ila B. McNannay; she preceded him in death on July 24, 1998. They lived in Mundelein, IL, before moving to Bloomfield Township in 1975. He formerly worked as a senior manufacturing engineer for the Cherry Electric Co. in Waukegan from 1972 until 1996. He then worked as an engineering consultant for the American Championship Aircraft Co. in Burlington, WI. He attended the United Methodist Church in Genoa City. He was a licensed pilot, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and he enjoyed airplanes. He was a former member of the Bloomfield Town Board, the republican party, a board member of the Walworth County Farm, and a member of the Harvard, NE Masonic Lodge #44 A.F. & A.M. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Schwenk is survived by 2 sons, Randall (Sandra) of Kenosha, WI, and Terry (Fiancee, Jean) of Kenosha, WI; 5 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Lorraine Voyles of Lincoln, NE. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Schwenk, on July 27, 1988.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 30, 2002, at the HAASE-DERRICK-LOCKWOOD FUNERAL HOME in Genoa City with Pastor Kenneth Lyerly officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Fisher, Georgia Lee (Broyles)
April 20, 1947 - November 19, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Georgia Lee (Broyles) Fisher, age 74, of 1801 E. Milwaukee St., died Tues., Nov. 19, 2002, at Haven House Hospice. She was born in Franklin County, Columbus, OH, the daughter of Oliver and Ida (Clepper) Broyles, and graduated from Marengo High School, Marengo, OH. Georgia married John M. Fisher on April 20, 1947, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cardington, OH. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the Spring of 1997, prior to John's death on Oct. 13, 1997. She and John moved from Ohio to Wisconsin in 1958 and engaged in farming. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Janesville, for 24 years before moving to the Horizon Senior Housing Apartments in 1999. Since then she has been a member of First Lutheran Church. Over the years she has been active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Ladies Aid, Vacation Bible School, volunteering for the Rock County Health Care Center, working the bazaar, rummage sale, taking part in many years of Bible study and participating in the quilting club. She has always had a passion for cooking. It brought her great pleasure to cook for her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Gary (Linda) Fisher of Milton, Nancy (Larry) Roberts of Dublin, CA, Ernie (Connie) Fisher of Milton, Carol (Lt. Col. William) Thompson and Brenda McKibben, both of San Antonio, TX; 11 grandchildren: Dan (Trisha) Fisher, Shelly Roberts, Stacey Roberts, Melisa (Cal) Castleberry, Jodi (Tom) Myers, Ryan Fisher, Lance (Chiaki) Thompson, Lindsay (Justin) Bradley, Jamie McKibben, Ashley McKibben and Meghan McKibben; and 5 great-grandchildren: Alexis Fisher, Sawyer Myers, Megan Castleberry, Courtney Castleberry and Dontae McKibben. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 brothers: Homer, Mitchell, Carl and Ernest Broyles; 4 sisters: Della Harding, Iona Henry, Dorothy Mathews and Cora Dumitras.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Fri., Nov. 22, 2002, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, with Rev. Gordon Folke and Rev. James Melvin officiating. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Hagerman, Catherine "Kay" A.

JANESVILLE -- Catherine "Kay" A. Hagerman, age 87, a resident of Golden Acres, died Sat., Nov. 23, 2002, at Beloit Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Aug. 23, 1915, in Edgerton, WI, and was the daughter of James and Mabel (Dunham) Cunningham. Kay was a graduate of Edgerton High School, Class of 1933. She worked in the Nunn Bush Shoe factory in Edgerton before leaving for Clinton, IA, where she lived the next 49 years. She married Glen Curl in St. Frances Catholic Church in Clinton, IA, in May of 1945; he passed away in 1964. She later married Charles Hagerman in 1972 in Nasuha, IA; he passed away in 1992. Kay was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, playing cards and bingo.
She is survived by nephews: Bobby, Mike and David Cunningham, James and Larry Schumacher, and Mark Popp; and stepchildren: Helen Mensinger, Joan McDonnell, Nancy Guest, Judy Goos, Donald Hagerman, and Richard Hagerman. She was preceded by her parents; 2 sisters, Mary Jane Popp and Grace Schumacher; and a brother, Robert Cunningham. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., Nov 27, 2002, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
