Holford, Elmer A.
February 9, 1909 - November 23, 2002
WHITEWATER -- Elmer A. Holford, age 93, of Whitewater, died Sat., Nov. 23, 2002, at Fairhaven Residential Facility. He was born on Feb. 9, 1909, in Waupaca, WI, the son of Ethran and Ida (Lant) Holford. He married Marie Gibbons on Sept. 26, 1931, in Sharon, WI. Elmer was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society. Elmer obtained a masters plumbers diploma and received an associate degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He worked for the U.S. Gov't. Geological Coast Survey Service along the eastern coastal area, was formerly employed by the Dahlman Hardware Store in Clinton, WI, and Winchesters Hardware Store in Whitewater, WI. Elmer was also a police officer of the Whitewater Police Department and was a radio dispatcher with the Wisc. State Patrol. He was also a member of the Whitewater Volunteer Fire Dept. After attending MSOE, he was employed with Johnson Controls and worked in the Sales Promotion Dept. until his retirement.He is survived by 4 children: Johanna (Paul) Wilke of West Bend, WI, James (Theresa) Holford of Lake Geneva, John (Carol) Holford of Whitewater, WI, and Veronica (Dan) Hanauer of Shawano, WI; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Preceding him in death were his wife; his parents; 3 brothers; and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Tues., Nov. 26, 2002, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Whitewater, WI. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Whitewater, WI. Memorials may be given to the St. Patrick's Church Endowment Fund or the Fairhaven Foundation. SKINDINGSRUDE FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.

Ingala, Santina M. ``Sandy''
March 1, 1914 - November 22, 2002
JANESVILLE/OSHKOSH -- Santina M. ``Sandy'' Ingala, age 88, formerly of Janesville, died peacefully Friday morning, Nov. 22, 2002 at the Bethel Home, Oshkosh, WI. Sandy was born March 1, 1914 in Chicago, IL, the eldest daughter of the late Jenny and Joseph Moccero. On April 22, 1933, she married Concetto ``CJ'' Ingala at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Janesville. Sandy was a longtime member of both St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. William's Catholic Church in Janesville. She also was a faithful and loving member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Oshkosh for the last 6 years. She was a faithful and loving Catholic/Christian woman who dedicated her life to her family, her friends, her community and her God. Sandy was employed by Mercy Hospital for many years, and later with the Janesville Public Library, until retiring to Florida in 1986. She was also an active volunteer to many organizations in the Janesville community.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Concetto of Oshkosh; her 2 sons, James (Karen) Ingala and John (Shelley) Ingala, both of Oshkosh; her grandchildren, Candy (Tim) Warriner of Roscoe, IL, James Ingala, Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL, Debra (Mark) Saunders of Janesville, Teresa (Doug) Henning of Crystal Lake, IL, and Robby Schroeder of Oshkosh; her great-grandchildren: Tanner and Connor Warriner of Roscoe, IL, Danny Saunders of Janesville, and Mandy and Emily Henning of Crystal Lake, IL; her 2 brothers, Jack Moccero of Janesville and Sam Moccero of Evansville; her sister, Patricia Worden of Janesville; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joann Ingala Bauer; a grandson, Charles Ingala; and her youngest brother, Frank Moccero.
A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Sandy's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 315 Cherry St., with Msgr. James Gunn, of Waunakee, WI, and Fr. Dan Felton, of Oshkosh, co-officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 9 until 11 a.m. at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in Sandy's name would be appreciated to the Apostolate to the Handicapped, Monroe, WI, Mercy Assisted Care Hospice, 901 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, or St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 315 Cherry St., Janesville. The WHITCOMB-LYNCH-OVERTON FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kauth, Donna Jeanne
December 13, 1929 - November 21, 2002
EVANSVILLE -- Donna Jeanne Kauth, age 73, of Evansville and formerly of Chicago, IL, died Thurs., Nov. 21, 2002, at her home. She was born on Dec. 13, 1929, in Beloit, the daughter of Peter and Ida (Zimmer) Kauth. She taught for several years in the Elizabeth and Freeport, IL, school districts, before writing textbooks for Scott Foresman & Company in Chicago. In 1990 she returned to Evansville and retired.
Donna is survived by her sisters, Beth (Kenneth) Flood of Brooklyn and Marilyn (James) Cook of Evansville; a niece; and 6 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Rollyn Kauth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Mon., Nov. 25, 2002, at WARD FUNERAL HOME, Evansville, with Rev. Eric Neilsen of St. Paul's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Spafford, Donald Duane
February 8, 1940 - November 18, 2002
MICHIGAN/JANESVILLE -- Donald Duane Spafford passed away in his home Mon., Nov. 18, 2002, after a long, hard, courageous battle with heart and lung disease. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He was born in Janesville on Feb. 8, 1940, to Louise Vogel Spafford and Dwight D. Spafford. He grew up in Frankfort, MI. As a boy he hunted, fished, and explored the bluffs of Lake Michigan. As a young man he worked as a golf caddy for the Country Club, as a pin setter at the bowling alley, and as a telegraph operator for Western Union. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1958. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he drove a D.U.C.K. He married Gail Jorgensen on April 3, 1962; together they had four children, and now have five grandchildren. Don worked for GM for several years, and also for Dana Corp. and Fairbanks Morse. He was a sales associate in his later years. He was an outgoing man who loved people and enjoyed many hobbies: playing cards, fishing, playing pool, and spoiling his cats. He loved spending time with his best friend of 40 years, Gail, his children, his grandchildren, and his cats who watched over him throughout this struggle. He also enjoyed cooking for all his family and friends, grilling steaks, and going to rummage sales looking for antiques and other treasures. He refinished many beautiful pieces of antique furniture. Don had a great interest in lighthouses, car-ferries, and other ships on the Great Lakes. He collected paintings of ships and the sea. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, pool games, auto racing, cooking shows, game shows, and the animal planet channel. He enjoyed feeding and watching birds, squirrels, and rabbits. Don enjoyed helping those who needed a hand, including homeless cats. He also loved working on projects in his garage.
He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Gail; his 4 children: Cheryl Spafford, Cindy (John) Spencer, Sandy (Ken) Jacobson, and Dan Spafford; grandchildren: Mike Spafford, Courtney Jacobson, Ryan Jacobson, Samantha Spencer, and Skylan Spafford; 2 sisters, Eta Mae and Thelma; a brother, Henry; nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. He is also survived by his cats: Chessie, Whiner, and Ginger. He was predeceased by his parents.
The loving and caring people of Beloit Regional Hospice played a huge part in helping Don find peace throughout his struggle; they became a part of his family. Many thanks and love, and God bless them from Don and his entire family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., Nov. 23, 2002, at FLORAL LAWNS CEMETERY CHAPEL, South Beloit, IL. HANSEN FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.

Vermillion, Rosalie Ellen
May 17, 1922 - November 25, 2002
FORT COLLINS, CO -- Rosalie Ellen Vermillion, age 80, of Fort Collins, CO, died Mon., Nov. 25, 2002, at her residence. She was born on May 17, 1922, in Akron, OH, daughter of Ida May Mills and Melville Shaffer. She married Harry Vermillion on Jan. 6, 1943, in Alexandria, LA. Rosalie attended Central High School in Akron, OH. She lived in Akron until 1979, when she moved to Colorado Springs, and then later to Fort Collins. She was a member of the bowling league in Akron. She liked to sew.
Surviving are her spouse, Harry Vermillion; sons: Mel Vermillion of Wray, CO, Harry Vermillion and Joe Vermillion of Carr, CO; daughters, Sue Ellen Mattingly and Harriet Rose Flugel of Manitou Springs, CO; brothers, Melville Shaffer and John Shaffer of Akron, OH; sister, Ida May Molea of Dayton, OH; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Maneval.
Cremation will be conducted. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Resthaven Funeral Home, 100 E. County Rd. 30, Fort Collins, CO 80525.

Wiskia, Jilleen A.
March 14, 1940 - November 22, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Jilleen A. Wiskia, age 62, of 308 N. High St., died Fri., Nov. 22, 2002, at Beloit Health and Rehab Center. Jilleen was born in Janesville on March 14, 1940, the daughter of Clare and Evelyn (Perleberg) Jones. She graduated from Milton High School in 1958 and later graduated from Mercy Hospital as a radiology technician. Jilleen managed Club 708 in Janesville for many years. She also operated her own craft business, Whimsies In Wood.
Survivors include her father, Clare Jones of Janesville; 2 daughters, Amy C. (Michael) Messerschmidt of Orfordville, Rodeena A. (Jeffrey) Pluhar of Louisville, KY; and 2 step-grandchildren, Andrew and Stephanie Messerschmidt. Jilleen was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Jones in 1997.
Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tues., Nov. 26, 2002, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, with Rev. Craig Peach officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of services at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME.

Wyssman, Mary Eleanor
April 16, 1927 - November 14, 2002
BRODHEAD -- Mary Eleanor Wyssman, age 75, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born April 16, 1927, the daughter of James and Mary (Cochrane) Locast in Janesville, WI. On Oct. 18, 1944, she married Herman Wyssman at the St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Together they farmed in the Orangeville area. After Herman's death, she moved to Brodhead, where she has resided ever since. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and playing cards with her friends and had a passion for crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her children, John (Susan) Wyssman of Bloomington, IL, Nancy Zunker of Stillman Valley, IL, Robert Wyssman of Orangeville, IL; a brother, James Locast of Janesville; a sister, Mildred Gruenewald of Juda, WI; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 3 brothers.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at ST. VICTOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, Monroe. Fr. Michael E. Klarer will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 until 6 p.m. at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME in Monroe. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the church. STEIL-CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME of Monroe is assisting the family. A memorial fund is being established in memory of Mary.
