JANESVILLE -- Margie Kaye Young (the former Kaye Kardux), age 71, died in San Jose, CA, July 19, 2002. She was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Janesville, the daughter of Jessie and William A. Kardux, longtime Janesville residents. Kaye graduated from Janesville High School in 1949. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, University of Wisconsin, and graduated from there in 1953. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women.
Kaye is survived by her husband, Robert; her sons: Brian, David (Cathy), Kevin (Resa) and son Troy; and grandchildren: Patrick and Jessica Young.
Zimmerman, Evert A. "Zim"
November 2, 1910 - July 4, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Evert A. "Zim" Zimmerman, age 91, of Janesville, died Thursday morning, July 4, 2002, at Rush-Copley Hospital, Aurora, IL. Evert was born on Nov. 2, 1910 in Augusta, WI, the son of Carl and Amelia (Kraus) Zimmerman. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1927. Evert married June Peckham on June 1, 1940; she preceded him in death in June, 1965. He was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II and served in England and Norway. Evert was employed by General Motors from 1928 to 1948. He then went to work at the Janesville Post Office as a postal clerk in 1948 and remained there until retiring in 1973. He was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church and a life-member of Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post #1621. Evert enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards with his friends, and tennis.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Carole (Robert) Shaffer of Oswego, IL and Jo Anne (Raymond Robert) Lucas of Saudi Arabia; 5 grandchildren: Sheri Shaffer, Brad (Mary) Shaffer, Tammy (Thomas) Bradley, Stacy (Mark) Gorman, and Angela (Steve) Reed; 8 great-grandchildren: Hanna, Jacob, Bria, Brooke, Samantha, Sonnie, Sierra, and McKenna; a brother, Carl A. Zimmerman of Augusta, WI; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Paddock of Osseo, WI. In addition to his wife, June, Evert was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Irene Paddock and Lucille Zimmerman; and a special friend, Marge Shields.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Mon., July 8, 2002, at CARGILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 2000 Wesley Ave., Janesville, with Rev. JD McCarty officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 until 4 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville.

ELKHORN -- Jennett C. Berndt, age 70, of Schmidt Rd., died Sat., Nov. 23, 2002, at her residence. She was born Nov. 5, 1932, in De Pere, WI, the daughter of Raymond and Clara (Meyer) Morgan. Jennett married Edward L. Berndt on Dec. 30, 1950, in Kenosha, WI; Ed died on July 14, 1998. Jennett worked for over 25 years at Oaks Mfg. of Elkhorn.
Jennett is survived by 3 children: Edward (Beth) Berndt of Crandon, WI, Roxanne (Richard) Yakes of Elkhorn, and Philip (Sue) Berndt of Delavan; a son-in-law, William Lange of Delavan; 8 grandchildren: Kurt (Charlene) Powell, Jenny (Chris) Toth, Bill Lange, Brian Yakes, Amber (Brian) Retzlaff, Stephanie, Philip, and Eddie Berndt; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gladys (Lorne) Person and Alberta (Larry) Story, both of Exland, WI; 4 brothers: Ray (Dorothy) Morgan of Morraw, GA, Harold (Bee) Morgan of Columbia City, IN, Donald (Mary) Morgan of Freeport, IL, and Leonard (Marilyn) Morgan of Summerland Keys, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; and a daughter, Gail Lange.

Biederman, Shea Michael

ELKHORN/LACROSSE -- Shea Michael Biederman, age 23, of N. 10th St., LaCrosse, WI, formerly of Elkhorn, WI, died Sun., Nov. 24, 2002. Shea was the son of Perry and Debra (Tepler) Biederman, born on Sept. 21, 1979, in Viroqua, WI. He was a 1997 graduate of Elkhorn Area High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
He is survived by his parents, Perry Biederman of Elkhorn, WI, and Debra (William) Woolard of Lake Geneva, WI; a brother, Justin (Melissa) Biederman of Brookfield, WI; 2 sisters, Amanda and Chelsea Biederman, both of Elkhorn, WI; and paternal grandparents, Ivan and Doris Biederman of Sheldon, WI. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Boyd and Joan Tepler.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sat., Nov. 30, 2002, at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH of Elkhorn, WI, with the Rev. Joel Deaner-Rogers officiating. Blumer, Ralph Warren
January 12, 1919 - November 2, 2002
TUCSON, AZ/JANESVILLE -- Ralph W. Blumer, age 83, passed away Sat., Nov. 2, 2002, at the House of Hope, Tucson, AZ. He was born on Jan. 12, 1919, in Kossuth County, IA, the son of the late Paul and Helen Blumer. In November, 1941, Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was in basic mechanic's training in Biloxi, MS, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harber. As World War II continued, he served at various bases in the U.S. with B-17 and B-24 bomber groups. After the Boeing B-29s were developed, he served in units that bombed Japanese bases in southeast Asia from bases in India. Later, he was a part of an advance party of 18 men, flown over the Himalayan "hump" into China, that helped prepare a base at Chengtu, China. From there, the B-29s began the final bombardment of Japan itself. He was awarded the Bronze Star during his service in China, and was promoted to Master Sergeant. At the war's end, he was stationed on Tinian Island in the Pacific. After World War II, Ralph worked for Northwest Airlines in St. Paul, MN, then joined the research laboratories of Mercury Outboard Engines, a part of Kiekhaefer Corp., in Oshkosh, WI. He was a part of the Kiekhaefer Auto Racing Team, which competed in the NASCAR racing circuit, and the Pan American Road Races in Mexico. Ralph was a chief mechanic for his team's cars in the Pan American Road Races in 1952 and 1953.
Along with his auto racing activities, he helped develop new Mercury boat engines as an engineering technician. In 1958, he prepared the engine which powered Hugh Entrop's boat to a World Outboard Speed Record of 107.8 miles per hour on Lake Washington in Seattle, WA. A few years later, Ralph joined Outboard Marine's research laboratories in Milwaukee, WI, where he worked through 1969. After moving to Arizona, Ralph was an aircraft mechanic in Marana, then worked as an engineering technician for Burr-Brown, and for Boeckler Instruments. He was a shop manager for Boeckler in Tucson when he retired at the age of 65. He and his wife, Amanda, lived in their home in the west part of Tucson overlooking the city, until a few months before Amanda's death on March 5, 2002.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Delores (Eugene) Albright of Janesville; their 3 children and 5 grandchildren; 3 brothers: John E. Blumer of Manchester, IA, Philip K. Blumer of Sierra Vista, AZ, and James A. Blumer of Westminster, CO; 4 nieces and 7 nephews; and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Amanda (Jensen) Draves Blumer. Their niece, Cheryl Oathout of Tucson, was a major caregiver in their twilight years. Amanda's brother, Warren (Vi) Jensen of Beloit, WI, were often traveling companions and home visitors.
A memorial service and military rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wed., Dec. 4, 2002, at OAK HILL CEMETERY CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The WHITCOMB-LYNCH-OVERTON FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with local arrangements. Memorials made in his name to the American Heart Association are appreciated.
Ralph had traveled to all parts of the United States and to 16 foreign countries. He was especially interested in genealogy and woodworking. Ralph will be missed by all of his family!
Brummond, William Frederick Carl
February 18, 1912 - November 26, 2002
FORT ATKINSON -- William Frederick Carl Brummond, age 90, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Tues., Nov. 26, 2002, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Health Services. He was born on Feb. 18, 1912, in Millard, WI, son of William and Anna Brummond. He attended schools in Rock County. On July 29, 1937, William married Lorraine Kreger in Delavan, WI. William had a dairy farm in Ft. Atkinson, where he raised purebred holsteins. He also worked in maintenance for UW-Whitewater. William and Lorraine owned and operated Brummond's Bar and Grill in Oakland Center prior to his retirement in 1986. He served as a 4-H leader and enjoyed playing pool. He loved to hunt and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Brummond of Fort Atkinson, WI; his children: Patricia (Thomas) Hunn of Fort Atkinson, WI, Roger (Carol) Brummond of La Luz, NM, Donna (Bud) Hacht of Fort Atkinson, WI, Connie (Bill) Harris of Oklahoma City, OK, and William Frederick Carl Brummond Jr. of Milton, WI; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Werner of Eagle, WI; and a brother, George Jones of Cambridge, WI. William was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Herman and Emil Brummond; and a sister, Emma Burns.
A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 30, 2002, at NITARDY FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Fort Atkinson, WI, with Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Richmond Cemetery, Town of Richmond. Friends may call on Saturday after 1 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
Busch, Glenn R.
December 14, 1923 - November 15, 2002
BELOIT -- Glenn R. Busch, age 78, of Beloit, passed away peacefully on Fri., Nov. 15, 2002, at the Premier Care Nursing Home, Beloit. He was born to Albert and Olga (Reinhardt) Busch on Dec. 14, 1923, in Nelson, WI. He lived in Nelson, where graduated from high school. He was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church and was married there to Corine J. Strand of Nelson on Jan. 26, 1946. They farmed in Nelson until 1955, when they moved to Beloit with their two children, Caryll (Toodie) and Dennis. Glenn worked at Lock Joint Pipe Co., So. Beloit, IL, (Cretex) for 30 years. Retirement came early for Glenn due to a heart attack on July 7, 1984. He spent many hours deer hunting, fishing, and camping in Wyoming and Wisconsin. He loved nature and being in the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially his great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all. His hobbies were building bird houses and squirrel feeders, and giving them to family and friends, so they could also enjoy watching the birds and feeding the squirrels. Glenn was known and loved by many people. If you knew Glenn you'll always remember his smile. For over 30 years, Glenn was active in AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), helping people in need and just being there when needed. He was known by many as the "Ole Timer". A special thanks goes out to Glenn and Corine's great neighbors and friends for all of their help and support when needed: Norman and Dorothy Oldenburg, the Minnicks, Gene Phillips, Howard Cox, John Shea, Otho Purdy and Cedar Acres Day Care Center of Janesville, and Premier Care Nursing Home, Beloit.
Survivors include his wife, Corine J. Busch; 2 children, Caryll (Toodie) Niles of Alma, WI, and Dennis (Joyce) Busch of Nelson, WI; 2 sisters, Bernice (Lawrence) Schlosser of Nelson, WI, and Ruby Busch of Nelson, WI; 5 grandchildren: Kimberly Janz of WI Rapids, WI, Tamara (Jeff) Monville of Cape Coral, FL, Jolene Niles of Nelson, WI, Julie (Richard) Veneman of Beloit, WI, and Jonathan Busch of Beloit, WI; 7 great-grandchildren: Brittany, Lindsey and Colton Janz, Brandon Monville, Haley and Michael Veneman, and Javrian (Niles) Koskela; 3 step-grandchildren: Becky (Jeff) Papendorf, Frank Cisewski, and Kris (Micheale) Cisewski; 7 step-grandchildren: Jeffery, Kyle and Lisa Papendorf, Frank and Jared Cisewski, and Benjamin and Adam Cisewski; 3 nieces and 4 nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Kenneth) Seifert; and brother-in-law, Harold Strand.
