McJoynt, Patricia A. "Pat"
November 21, 1930 - July 7, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Patricia A. "Pat" McJoynt, age 71, of 322 Country View Ct., died Sunday morning, July 7, 2002, at Haven House Hospice. She was born in Akron, OH on Nov. 21, 1930, daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Schmieg) McJoynt. She graduated from high school and later the University of Madison, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952. Pat was a long-time member of St. William Catholic Church. Never marrying, she started working for WCLO-Southern Wisconsin Radio, Inc. in 1952 and retired after 38 years of loyal service in 1990. She was the Continuity Director at WCLO and also did radio commercials and the social news. She was an active member of the Janesville Little Theater, served on the Red Cross Board, was past president of the Zonta Club, and served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board.
She is survived by a sister, Jo (Tom) Brossard of Mesa, AZ; 2 brothers, Tom (Jean) McJoynt of Salt Lake City, UT and David (Mary) McJoynt of Bonita Springs, FL; 14 nieces and nephews she was very fond of: Anna Greenspan, Richard (Deb) Brossard, Patty (Jeff) Keefer, Irene (Ray) Ewers, Ed (Leah) Brossard, Maggie (John) DeVoe, Kevin (Amy) McJoynt, Tim (Christy) McJoynt, Kathy McJoynt, David McJoynt, Mike (Terri) McJoynt, Jane Rijos, Sally McJoynt and Kelly (Julie) McJoynt; other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., July 10, 2002, at ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville, with Fr. Del Klink officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made in Pat's name to the Janesville Salvation Army. The WHITCOMB-LYNCH-OVERTON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, is assisting the family.

Melvin, Elida C.
December 16, 1910 - July 23, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Elida C. Melvin, age 91, of 1030 N. Walnut St., passed on to Eternal Life on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Meadow Park Health Care Center, Clinton. She was born on Dec. 16, 1910, in Red Mound, the daughter of Obert and Elsie (Jacobson) Everson. Elida was baptized into God's Kingdom of Grace in 1911, at Bad Axe Lutheran Church, and made her lifelong vow of faithfulness to the Lord on July 19, 1925, the day of her Confirmation. She married Marion P. Melvin on June 2, 1933, in Caledonia, MN; he preceded her in death on June 5, 1995. Elida taught in a one room school in rural Vernon County and she also owned grocery stores in LaFarge and Viola with her husband, "M.P." She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church since October 13, 1963 where she taught Sunday School and Confirmation classes. She enjoyed gardening, time spent with family and friends, and loved her Boston Terrier, Rocky.
Elida is survived by a daughter, Charlene Krause of Janesville; a son, Paul Melvin of Evansville; granddaughters, Susan (Tammi Droessler) Krause of Madison and Lisa (Jay) Schlicher of Kenosha; a sister, Myrtle Worman of Janesville; a sister-in-law, Vida Adam of LaFarge; many special nieces and nephews including: Lois Anderson, Ruth Clark, and Charles Melvin; and 2 special friends, Harlan Krause and Linda Lynch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Melvin; 3 brothers: Lawrence, Earl and Lyle; and 2 sisters, Pearl Norton and Fern Huntington.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2002, at PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. William Finn officiating. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with arrangements.

Meidl, Judith E.
September 18, 1942 - July 16, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Judith E. Meidl, age 59, of 326 S. Locust St., passed away Tuesday morning, July 16, 2002 at her home, following a long illness. She was born Sept. 18, 1942, in River Falls, WI, the daughter of the late R. Douglas and Mildred E. (Sisson) Slatter. Judy moved to Janesville with her family as a child, and attended school in Janesville. She was a graduate of Janesville High School, class of 1961. She then attended the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, MN, and graduated with her B.S. in Nursing in 1965. She received her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, Madison, WI. On June 17, 1967, she married Kenneth H. Meidl. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and had attained her rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She served her country since 1975, and had been based overseas during Operation Desert Shield. She had just recently received the Meritorious Service Medal. Judy was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and had served her parish as a member of the Social Concerns Commission. She also served as a lay reader and Communion distributor. She was active with ECHO, and at the time of her passing, was a member of their Board of Directors, also having served as treasurer. She was a member of the Herb Society of Rotary Gardens, and very much enjoyed gardening! Judy was a longtime instructor in the nursing program at Blackhawk Technical College and was a member of the Blackhawk Technical College Faculty Association and the American Nurse's Association, as well as the Dairyland Volks Marching Club.
She is survived by her 3 children: Brent Meidl and Lara (Michael) Smith, both of Janesville, and Christopher Meidl of LaJoya, TX; her 3 brothers: John (Irene) Slatter and William (Judith) Slatter, both of Janesville, and Michael (Linda) Slatter of Beloit; her sister-in-law, Helen Slatter of Janesville; many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Slatter.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., July 20, 2002, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 315 Cherry St., Janesville, with Fr. J. Daryl Furlong officiating. Inurnment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call for a memorial visitation on Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-OVERTON FUNERAL HOME, 15 N. Jackson St., Janesville, or on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in her name may be made to the Judith E. Meidl Memorial Nursing Scholarship, c/o Blackhawk Technical College Foundation, P.O. Box 5009, Janesville, WI 53547-5009, to HospiceCare, Inc., 3001 W. Memorial Dr., Janesville, WI 53545, or to ECHO, Inc., 409 E. Court St., Janesville, WI 53545.

Montgomery, Wilma Lucille
September 18, 1919 - August 2, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Wilma Lucille Montgomery, age 82, of 1936 N. Washington St., died Friday morning, Aug. 2, 2002, at Deerview Meadows. Wilma was born in Prague, Oklahoma, on Sept. 18, 1919, the daughter of Clarence and Zela (Licklider) Nipper. She married Wilson Montgomery Aug. 26, 1938, in Shawnee, OK; he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2000. Mrs. Montgomery was formerly employed as a surgical nurse at the Guymon, OK hospital. A Janesville resident since 1985, she was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Margaret Fletcher of Janesville; 2 grandsons, Neal Fletcher of Janesville and Todd Fletcher of New Orleans, LA; 2 sisters, Melba Buoy and Mable Uldrich; and a brother, Willie Nipper, all of Prague, OK. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Nipper.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wed., Aug. 7, 2002, at PARKS BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, Prague, OK, with Rev. David Licklider and Rev. Chuck Utsler officiating. Burial will be in the Prague Cemetery. The family will meet friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Parks Brothers funeral home. HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME of Janesville is assisting the family.

Normington, Brenda Lee
September 28, 1960 - July 18, 2002
BRODHEAD, WI -- Brenda Lea Normington, age 41, passed away Thurs., July 18, 2002, at her home after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 28, 1960, in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Gordon and Colleen (Wolter) Rick. She married Billy R. Normington on July 7, 1990, in Brodhead. Brenda graduated from Parker High School, Janesville, in 1979 and had worked at Wal-Mart of Janesville since its opening. She was a member of the Living Word Tabernacle, Brodhead, and the Blackhawk Musky Club, Janesville.
She is survived by her husband, Billy of Brodhead; her mother, Colleen Rick of Janesville; her stepson, Benjamin Normington of Brodhead; 2 brothers, Todd (Shelly) Rick and Mike (Milissa) Rick, both of Janesville; a sister, Julie Rick of Janesville; her maternal grandmother, Mary Wolter of Brodhead; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon, Oct. 20, 2001; paternal grandparents; and her maternal grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Mon., July 22, 2002, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead, with Rev. Mark Pederson officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Green County Hospice or Living Word Tabernacle Church, Brodhead.

Nunn, Dorothy I.
April 28, 1918 - July 17, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Dorothy I. Nunn, age 84, of 102 N. River St., died at Mercy Hospital on Wednesday morning, July 17, 2002. Dorothy was born in Manchester Township, Boone County, IL, on April 28, 1918, the daughter of Harry and Vinnie (Hull) Anderson. A long-time Janesville resident, she was employed as a clerk by Parish & Bailey Drug Store for 17 years. Dorothy was married to Clifford A. Nunn on Jan. 29, 1937. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose Lodge #477 and was active at the Janesville Senior Center. She was a member and active volunteer with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for 40 years.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford Nunn of Janesville; 3 children: Sandra (Tom) Nagler of Rockton, IL, Edward (Gloria) Nunn of Janesville, and Larry (Marsha) Nunn of Santa Rosa, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Mon., July 22, 2002, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, with Rev. Ann Spindt officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m., with a Women of the Moose service at 3:45 p.m., and on Monday from 1 until 2 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME.

O'Brien, George James
June 17, 1947 - January 28, 2002
LOS ANGELES, CA -- George James O'Brien, age 54, died Mon., Jan. 28, 2002 of complications from thyroid cancer. He passed peacefully at home with his family at his side. George was born and raised in Janesville and moved to California in 1966 to serve his country as a U.S. Marine at Camp Pendelton. He then attended UCLA and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Economics. He began his 30-year career as a financial advisor with Paine Weber, followed by a happy 27-year tenure with Dean Witter Reynolds, now Morgan Stanley. George led a full and active life. He enjoyed spending his time on the golf course, traveling the world, and hosting parties for family and friends. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and was a regular behind home plate at Dodger Stadium. He played football and baseball weekly with friends for many years.
George is survived by his wife, Nina; daughters, Kelly (Conrad) Flores and Shannon O'Brien; a granddaughter, McKenna Flores of San Diego, CA; and 2 sisters, Patricia (peter) Frechette of Minneapolis, MN, and Miki O'Brien of San Diego, CA. He was predeceased by his father and his mother, Perry and Alicia O'Brien of Janesville. George's endearing smile and twinkling eyes will be missed by family and friends.
A private family interment was held. Donations may be made to the John Wayne Cancer Institute, 2200 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90404, Attn: Development.
