JANESVILLE -- Lyle B. Peterson, age 87, of 1702 S. River Rd., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Cedar View Health Center. He was born October 17, 1914, in Iola, WI, the son of Melvin and Mable (Berg) Peterson. He graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee, WI. Lyle married his much beloved wife Gladys in August of 1939. She died on July 24, 1970. They spent many happy years in Oklahoma where he worked for Will Ross, Inc. Lyle was also a well known real estate broker with Rockland Builders/Rockland Realty, in Janesville, where he worked until retiring in December of 1979.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy (Anthony) Tisci; his 2 precious granddaughters, Carroll J. Sorce and Keri J. Sorce; special brother-in-law, Tom McLean, and dear sister-in-law, Jean Mahnke; he is also survived by special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the CHAPEL AT CEDAR CREST. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City, OK. JANESVILLE -- Senora M. Foss, age 92, a resident of Rock Haven, died there on Sat., July 6, 2002. She was born on April 1, 1910, in Warsaw, MN, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Dalbotten) Charlson. She was a graduate of U-Minnesota and was a sales correspondent for Parker Pen Ltd. from 1948 to 1962, and taught at the Chippewa Falls and Fort Atkinson Public Schools from 1964 to 1971.
She is survived by her son, Richard Foss of Janesville; 2 grandsons, Mark Foss of Denver, CO and Mike Kraus of Janesville; and a brother-in-law, William (Myrtle) Oestreich of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Clarence, Obert and Sigmund; and a sister, Alma Oestreich.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tues., July 9, 2002, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, with Rev. Dale Halverson of Faith Lutheran officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Ford, Lorraine B.

BELOIT -- Lorraine B. Ford, age 57, of 545 Public Ave. Beloit, died Wed., July 17, 2002 at her home. She was born on Feb. 19, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of James and Henrietta (Gregory) Benbow. Lorraine lived in Chicago until moving to Janesville in 1995, and most recently in Beloit this last year.
She is survived by 3 children: Laura (Jasen) Dewey of Janesville, Henrietta Ford of Fitchburg, MA, and Christine (Cornelius) Coleman of Beloit; 11 grandchildren: Phillip, Clinton, Phylicia, Malcolm, Calvin, Matthew, Aisha, Lakethia, Ellanisha, Christopher, and Jazmine; a brother, Charles (Kathy) Benbow of Berwin, IL; and 3 sisters: Henrietta McQuade of Janesville, Georgene Scavone of Berwin, IL, and Nancy (Frank) Zdenovec of Laughlin, NV; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and 2 devoted friends, Shelly Williams and Rev. Paullette Farrar, both of Beloit. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard in infancy; a granddaughter, Aalyiah, at birth; 3 brothers: Joe, Ernest, and Kenny Benbow; and 2 sisters, Joan Lee and Marie Eckel.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., July 20, 2002, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Paullette Farrar of Faith Mission C M E Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

Freeman, LaVerne Paul
June 22, 1916 - July 13, 2002
JANESVILLE -- LaVerne P. Freeman, age 86, a former longtime Janesville area resident, passed away Sat., July 13, 2002, at Ft. Atkinson Memorial Hospital. He was born June 22, 1916, in Grant County, WI, the son of the late Oscar and Lena (Olson) Freeman. On June 22, 1939, he married the former Lucille Walk in Clinton, WI; she preceded him in death on March 25, 1987. He had farmed for several years in the Clinton area and then worked as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He and his wife were members of the Good Sam Club and loved traveling south in their motor home! He was a past member of Faith Lutheran Church, Janesville.
LaVerne is survived by his brother, Donald (Beatrice) Freeman; many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wed., July 17, 2002, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2116 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, with Rev. Dick Inglett officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The WHITCOMB-LYNCH-OVERTON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, is assisting his family with arrangements.
Gackstatter, Robert E. "Bob"
March 1, 1930 - July 17, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Robert E. "Bob" Gackstatter, age 72, a longtime Janesville resident, died Wed., July 17, 2002, at his son's home, with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 1, 1930, in Janesville, the son of Edward and Beulah (Graves) Gackstatter. On Oct. 16, 1947, he married the former Elaine R. Gilbertson in Dubuque, IA; she died March 21, 1990. Bob attended Janesville schools and worked at GMAD for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He is a member of UAW Local 95 and the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed camping at Dodgeville and Yellowstone parks. He looked forward to spending time in the fresh air. Along with his 3 sons, he bought and refurbished older cars.
He is survived by his 3 sons: Danny Gackstatter and Dale (Ann) Gackstatter, both of Janesville, and Kim (Rhonda) Gackstatter of Littlerock, CA; his mother, Beulah Gackstatter of Janesville; 8 grandchildren: Robby, Katie, and David of Janesville, Valerie of Littlerock, CA, Danny of Rockford, IL, Cassie, Danielle, and Frankie, all of California; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Darwin "Jack" (Millie) Gackstatter and Roger (Nancy) Gackstatter, both of Janesville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Elaine; infant son, Robert Alan; and granddaughter, Brenda.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tues., July 23, 2002, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Janesville, with Rev. Judi Huseth officiating. Private interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. FORT ATKINSON, WI -- Josephine M. Gorniak, age 82, passed away Tues., July 30, 2002, at her home. She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Wynegem-Antwerpt, Belgium, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Nys) VanHooydonk. On Sept. 8, 1945, Josephine married Justine A. Gorniak, Sr. in Belgium. Josephine was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, WI.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Justine A. Gorniak, Sr. of Ft. Atkinson; sons: Guido (Cathy) Gorniak of Hanover Park, IL, Justine A. (Eileen B.) Gorniak, Jr. of Janesville, WI, Richard Gorniak of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Alan H. (Marion H.) Gorniak of Whitewater, WI, Michael (Catrina) Gorniak of New Auburn, WI, Christopher B. (Sheryl) Gorniak of Milton, WI, and Dominic A. (Barbara J.) Gorniak of Ft. Atkinson, WI; a daughter, Marietta Gorniak of Milton, WI; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Alice and Marietta Teresa of Antwerpt, Belgium.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Sat., Aug. 3, 2002, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Ft. Atkinson, with Father Thomas Coyle officiating. PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI -- Marjorie E. Graap, age 87, of Prairie du Chien, WI, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 7, 1914, in Sparta, WI, daughter of Hubert and Dollie (Harris) Marx. She married Carl Graap on Feb. 24, 1934, in Caledonia, MN; he preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1986. She worked at the Piggly-Wiggly Grocery Store for 40 years. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Royal Neighbors, the Eagles Club Auxiliary, and the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by 4 sons: Allyn of Manassas, VA, Donald (Norma) of San Diego, CA, David (Lee) of Janesville, WI, and Dennis (Kay) of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Helen Krachey of Tomah, WI; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Sylvester Marx; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Swegle and Marian Marx.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at ST. GABRIEL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien, WI. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the GARRITY FUNERAL HOME, Prairie du Chien, WI, where there will be a wake scripture at 7:30 p.m.
