Anton Stanley Harycki of Thorp, Wisconsin, died of natural causes Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at the age of 103, at Lakeside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard-Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp, Wisconsin, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2001. Burial, with military rites accorded by Thorp American Legion Post #118 will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery. Legionnaires will also serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will precede the services starting at the church at 9 a.m. Father John Pruener will officiate.
Stanley was born on January 10, 1898, in Thorp and attended formal school until the eighth grade. He went into the blacksmith trade in Thorp as a youth and then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to learn the new field of auto mechanics. In April of 1918, he enlisted in the Army and served his country in World War I with Company E of the 308th Engineers. He saw combat duty in France during the Muse-Argonne Offensive.
Returning to Thorp in the 1930's, he partnered with his brothers in opening Riteway Super Service, a gas station which he eventually ran by himself until his retirement in 1975.
Stanley married Margaret Persok on May 14, 1942. Inducted into the Army in 1942, he again served his country as an auto mechanic at Camp Livingston, Louisiana. He was a member of the American Legion, Cecil Tourmey Post, and of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's parish. In 1999, he was the humble recipient of the French Legion of Honor Medal, France's highest honor awarded for his military service on French soil in WWI.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Chippewa Falls; his daughters, Marcia Harycki (Orv Gauger) of Chippewa Falls, Ann Cue (Jim) of Madison, and Mary Harycki of Milwaukee; his grandchildren, Lana Rose (Aaron) Johnson of Laramie, Wyoming, Felicity Gauger of Chippewa Falls, Martin (Sara) and Corryn Cue of Madison and Moira Cue of San Francisco; one sister-in-law, Fern Harycki of Thorp; as well as by many loving nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Benjamin Olson
WAUSAU -- Benjamin E. Olson, 61, 400 River Drive, Wausau, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospices Services at Community Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born August 4, 1939, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, son of the late Emmitt D. and Hazel (Paulson) Olson.
Benjamin was the retired President of Wausau Insurance Company Credit Union. He lived in the Wausau area since 1972. Ben especially enjoyed golf and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his sons, Eric Olson of Louisville, Colo., and Mark Olson of Athens, Ohio; daughter, Katherine (Timothy) Zblewski of Birnamwood, Wis.; two grandchildren; and his sisters, Arlene Sell of Duluth, Minn., and Marlys (Lee) Amdahl of Nelson, Wis.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Reverend Charlotte Saleska will officiate and burial will be in Eau Claire.
Friends may call from noon Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in his name to Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
LaMoine Smith
ELEVA -- LaMoine Smith, 85, of Eleva died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
He was born on March 26, 1915, in the town of Naples, Buffalo Co., Wis., to Hugh and Esther (Patrow) Smith. LaMoine grew up and lived in and around the Mondovi area until moving to his present home in rural Eleva on Feb. 1, 1943, where he resided until his death. On June 27, 1936, he married Eleanor Bardill in Mondovi. LaMoine farmed his entire life until retirement and also worked for many years at both the Strum and Eleva feed mills and part-time at Equity Co-op Livestock Auction Market in Eau Claire.
LaMoine loved the outdoors and those who knew him were aware of the pride he took in caring for his yard and huge gardens. He also took pride in his feeding of all his birds and squirrels and he enjoyed watching them for hours on end. He was a faithful and loving companion to his wife, Eleanor, even after she entered the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi on Aug. 5, 1999. Part of his daily routine was going to visit her. LaMoine loved his large family and took pride in all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always there for all his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Mondovi; his eight children, Donald (Marlene) Smith of Livermore, Colo., Noel (Carol) Swartz of Burnsville, Minn., Gary (Jennie) Smith of Eleva, Wis., Sharon (Dale) Olson of Strum, Wis., Richard (Virginia) Smith of Mondovi, Wis., Kathryn (David) Miller of Waupaca, Wis., William (Christine) Smith of Strum, Wis., and David (Robin) Smith of Mondovi, Wis.; 18 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delton Smith of Eau Claire and Wallace (Myrtle) Smith of Osseo, Wis.; two sisters, Jane (Lymen) Odegard of Osseo, Wis., and Gladys Thorson of Augusta, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Wilmah Smith of Augusta, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Arnold (Janet) Bardill of Largo, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Swartz; his parents; and a brother, Galen Smith.
Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, Wis., with Revs. Omar Olson and Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Mondovi, Wis.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi or on Monday for two hours before the service at the church.
Juanita Cutsforth
Juanita E. Cutsforth, 84, a lifelong resident of Chippewa County, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Lakeside South Nursing and Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls.
She was born Sept. 17, 1913 in Eagleton, town of Eagle Point, to Emma (Vesper) and Peter McCann. She grew up in the Eagleton and Jim Falls area, graduating from Chippewa Falls High School in 1933.
Juanita married Vallie D. Cutsforth on November 16, 1933, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eagleton. Together they operated grocery stores in Clyde, Pleasant Ridge and Gothom, Wisconsin. Following WWII, they owned and operated Vallie's Tavern in Jim Falls for 23 years. Juanita retired from J.C. Penney Company in Chippewa Falls in 1970.
Juanita was the last surviving grandchild of Daniel and Margaret McCann of "Old Abe, the War Eagle" history. She had a lifelong interest in her family history and Old Abe. She was an honorary member of the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagle" Division, Old Abe Chapter. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vallie of Chippewa Falls; one son, Marshall (Donna) Cutsforth of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; one daughter, Valita (Porter) Popple of Chippewa Falls, two grandsons, Christopher (Chonnie) Cutsforth of Whitewater, Colo., Matthew Cutsforth of La Junta, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Karlyn Cutsforth of Reston, Va., Christopher Marshall Cutsforth of Woodbridge, Va., and Whitney Cutsforth of Whitewater, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Olien McCann, Della McCann, Nora Rudy; and five brothers, Herbert, Nathaniel, Howard, Isadore, and James McCann.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Roger Skatrud officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Chippewa County Federation of Woman's Clubs for the "Old Abe Memorial" at 1424 Terrill St., Apt. 37; Chippewa Falls.
Helen Sabelko
Helen P. Sabelko, 84, of Durand died May 22, 1998 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, Elmwood. She was born July 3, 1913.
Helen was the daughter of Charles and Theresa (Vogler) Prissel. She was born, raised and lived her entire life in the town of Lima, Pepin County, rural Durand. She married Thomas Sabelko May 31, 1931 at Lima. After marriage they farmed in the town of Lima. They moved to the city of Durand in October of 1987. Thomas died May 29, 1990. She has been a resident of the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home for the past seven years.
Helen is survived by five daughters: Thelma (Dick) Weisenbeck of Durand, Milly (Floyd) Hubbard of Rice Lake, Betty (Frank) Albarado of Hagar City, Theresa (Jim) Bilderback of Oshkosh, Rita (Randy) Brunner of Eau Claire; two sons: Bob (Noreen) Sabelko of Eau Claire, Galen (Ellen) Sabelko) of Eleva; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; five sisters: Bernadine Gilles of Durand, Gertrude Fedie, Freda Werlein and Leona Spindler, all of Mondovi, Erma Sam of Arkansaw; one brother, Francis Prissel of Durand. She was preceded in death by besides, her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday May 26, 1998 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima, rural Durand. Rev. Edward Shuttleworth will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandsons. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home, Durand, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday night.

Edward Smith
Edward D. Smith, 79, of 18734 54th Ave., Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls.
He was born January 23, 1919, in the town of Sigel, Chippewa County, to Minnie (LaFaive) and Harry Smith. He grew up in the Cadott area where he attended school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 20, 1941, and was stationed in California. He served with the 14th Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theatre during WW II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 23, 1945.
Ed married Eunice V. Roycraft on April 27, 1944 in Tacoma, Washington. He was employed at National Presto Industries until becoming disabled due to a car accident on March 29, 1951.
He was a member of St. Simeon's Episcopal Church; a member and treasurer of the Vestry; a member of the Society of Mary; and a member of Confraternity of Christian Life.
Survivors Include his wife, Eunice Smith of town of Lafayette; two sisters, Leila Hakes of Chippewa Falls, Dorothy (Rudy) Zimmerman of Elk Mound; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Virgil, James, Earl and Herman Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Christ Episcopal Church in Chippewa Falls with the Very Rev. Father G. Randolph Usher, SSC as celebrant. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, town of Hallie.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and until the time of the service Wednesday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls.
Ed will always be remembered for his positive attitude in spite of his disability, his warm smile, his genuine love for his family, church, friends and especially children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Contributions to St. Simeon's Episcopal Church in Ed's memory would be appreciated.
Marjorie Solie
Marjorie E. Solie, age 75, of Eau Claire died Friday, May 22, 1998 at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Marjorie was born on March 20, 1923 in Miltonvale, Kansas to the late Emery and Neva (Geist) Francis. She married Eugene Solie on December 3, 1974 in Stillwater, Minnesota. Marge was a very beautiful and special wife and companion, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband Eugene; son Michael (Christine) Sipe of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Margo Wilde of Menomonie; stepsons, James and William Solie of Eau Claire, stepdaughters, Patricia (David) Lassek of Red Wing, MN, Kathy (Gary) Kressin of Eau Claire, Julie (Ray) Warner of Eau Claire; grandchildren Skeeter, Sandy, Sonya and Tony; 4 great grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; and 2 step great grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Francis of Silver Lake, Kansas, Dean Francis of Ames, Kansas and Max Francis of Stillwater, Minnesota; sisters Betty Rhodes and Phyllis Jackson, both of Clinton, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
