Joel P. Wagner, age 25, of Menomonie, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.
Joel was born Nov. 15, 1975, in Eau Claire to Gary L. and Linda (Groff) Wagner. He was raised in Menomonie and graduated in 1994 from Menomonie High School.
Joel was going to graduate Magna Cum Laude in May from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in marketing education with a concentration in business education and minors in history education and coaching basketball.
Joel was prepared to student teach starting Monday at Chippewa Falls High School in marketing and business classes. He also coached basketball for the sixth grade Menomonie All-Stars and ninth grade basketball for Eau Claire Memorial.
Joel is survived by his parents, Gary and Linda Wagner of Menomonie; one brother, Justin Wagner of Menomonie; his paternal grandmother, Carol Wagner; his maternal grandfather, Robert Groff; aunts, uncles and cousins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jason; maternal grandmother, Daisy Groff; and paternal grandfather, Lenard Wagner.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Christian Life Ministries Church in Menomonie with the Revs. Mike Pilla and Jim Crawmer officiating. Burial was in Ford Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie.

Clarence W. Johnstone
Clarence W. Johnstone, a centenarian of 102, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Clarence was born Dec. 30, 1898, in Crookston, Minn., the son of William and Carrie (Lerum) Johnstone. Clarence moved with his family to the Urne area south of Durand where he attended school. Clarence worked at different types of construction in his early years, eventually merging into a plumbing career. He worked for various plumbers in the Menomonie area.
After retiring in the late 1960s, he purchased a home in Menomonie where he lived and cared for himself until being admitted to Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System on Dec. 27, 2000. Clarence celebrated his 102nd birthday in the hospital. On Jan. 2, 2001, Clarence was transferred to the Dunn County Health Care Center, where he remained the rest of his life.
Clarence is survived by his sister, Fern Schimmel of Menomonie; five nieces, Violet Williams and Marlas Ranke, both of Menomonie, Phyllis Erickson and Jo Ann Bjorkman, both of Amery, and Marno Gerow of Boco Raton, Fla.; as well as special friends, Joe and Judy Jax and Herb White, all of Menomonie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben and Robert; and two sisters, Mabel Hintzman and Nora Dale.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at the Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev. Steve Schmeling officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Downsville.
Shelly M. Vernon
Shelly M. Vernon, age 49, of Menomonie, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie.
The former Michele Marie Bodoh was born Dec. 30, 1951, in Neillsville to Lawrence and Jessie June (Zilisch) Bodoh. She was raised in Menomonie and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1970. She then attended Chippewa Valley Technical College for two years, earning a degree in business. Shelly worked as a CNA at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie for 22 years.
She married Richard Vernon on Oct. 23, 1982, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie.
Shelly was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working with residents from Potter's Country Home as well as with the residents from the American Lutheran Home. She also enjoyed gardening, camping and downhill skiing. Shelly will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Shelly is survived by her husband, Richard; three children, Joel, Janette and Jon, all of Menomonie; one sister, Barb (Lloyd) Strangeway of Chetek; four brothers, Dennis (Debbie) Bodoh of Menomonie, Bob Bodoh of Chippewa Falls; Ron Bodoh of Key West, Fla., and Tom (Deb) Bodoh of Brandon, S.D.; four nieces and two nephews, Tara Baier, Rick Penny, Heidi and Chelsie Bodoh, and Corey and Jennifer Bodoh; one great-niece and two great-nephews, Kara, Vinny and Jo Baier; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Bodoh, and her parents.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie with the Revs. Ron Burke and Kurt Larson officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Menomonie.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Russell J. Lasocki
Russell J. Lasocki, age 56, of Menomonie, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Russell was a loyal employee of the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a member of the Instructional Technology Services Department.
Russ leaves behind a larger community of friends who will remember him as a big man with a kind heart, a gentle soul, and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leslie Koepke; two sisters, Paul Walia and Ellrene (Keith) Whiting; and a nephew, Patrick Walia.
He was cared for by a loving circle of friends, including Kathy Nevins, Maggie Madden, Julia Smith, Shelly Aamodt and Martha Wallen.
He was preceded in death by father, Alex, and mother, Irene.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16, at the First Congregational Church in Menomonie, followed by an open house at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Northwest Home Care/Hospice or the Stout University Foundation for the Russell Lasocki Telecommunication Systems Scholarship Fund.
Edward M. Grogan
Edward M. Grogan, age 90, of Wheeler, formerly of Lake City, Minn., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at the Area Nursing Home in Colfax.
He was born Oct. 6, 1911, in Glenwood City to Malcolm and Maybelle (Baker) Grogan. Following high school graduation, Edward attended the School of Engineering in Milwaukee, graduating in 1929.
He married the former Wilma Hyde on Dec. 18, 1946, in Milwaukee. They moved to Lake City in 1947 and resided there until six years ago. Edward was a self-employed electrician for many years. Ten years prior to retiring, he worked at the Prairie Island Power Plant. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Lake City for many years.
Edward is survived by three sisters, Arlene (Russell) Quarderer of San Antonio, Texas, Marilyn (Keith) Peterson of New Richmond, and Rosalie (Leonard) Hoff of New Brighton, Minn.; one brother, James Grogan (Sandee Gould) of Howard Lake, Minn.; two granddaughters, Mary Jo Hart of Thielman, Minn., and Heidi (Herb) Wells of Bay City; a sister-in-law, Luella Grogan of Wheeler; a niece, Betty (Bill) Heitmann of Blaine, Minn.; several other nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Patricia Murphy; one brother, Alvin Grogan; and two infant brothers.
Funeral services are Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Grace United Methodist Church in Wheeler with the Rev. Gail Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.
The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer's research.

Carole A. Thorn
Carole A. Thorn, 66, formerly of Eau Claire, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation at Chippewa Falls.
She was born in Mankato, Minn., on Aug. 25, 1935, the daughter of Charles "Ted" and Leona (Raedel) Hagen. She moved with her family to Eau Claire where she graduated in 1953 from Eau Claire Senior High School.
Carole married Clifford R. Lorenz on Dec. 24, 1966, in Eau Claire. Cliff died in 1973. She married Darrel "Doley" Thorn in Red Wing, Minn., on July 28, 1975. Doley died in 1977.
Carole was a secretary at Consumer's Co-op Credit Union many years and then at OK Tire until 1985.
Survivors include her mother, Leona VanDenbroek of Altoona; two sons, Mark (Debra) Lorenz of Menomonie and David Lorenz of Hallie; two sisters, Janet Holman of Altoona and Marian (Marv) Grzys of Escondido, Calif.; two brothers, Chuck (Arlene) Hagen of Eau Claire and Jim (Judy) Hagen of The Woodlands, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Hagen; stepfather, Clarence "Van" VanDenbroek; and a brother-in-law, Glen Holman.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home in Eau Claire with Pastor Gerald Mann officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Allen G. Wendt
Allen G. Wendt, age 83, of Menomonie, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
He was born July 6, 1919, in Menomonie to Gustav and Lula (Hess) Wendt. When a young man he served in the Civil Corps of Engineers where he participated in the sport of boxing.
Allen was employed by Hitz Dairy for several years. He then owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Dunn until retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed training his hunting dogs, hunting, fishing and driving tractor for Doane Farms. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and especially with his wife, Elaine.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Al is survived by his wife, Elaine of Menomonie; his son, Lyn (Geri) Wendt of Menomonie; three grandchildren, Jody (Tony) Lemke, Lori (Ryan) Olson, and Jeremy (Tara) Wendt, all of Menomonie; six great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Gary (Carol) Carlson of Portland, Ore., Bruce (Paula) Carlson of LaCrescent, Minn., and Penny Hammer of Duluth, Minn.; five step-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one sister, Lanett Marshall of Washington, Mo.; one brother, Cliff (Carol) Wendt of Menomonie; his mother-in-law, Genevieve Wekkin of Menomonie; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Wilmer; two other brothers, Roy and Marvin; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Marshall.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev John Mikkelson officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in the Town of Dunn, Dunn County.
