Loretta (Harnisch) Winget passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home in Chicago, Ill.
Loretta was born and raised near Connorsville, and spent a majority of her time in Wisconsin and Florida as well as Illinois.
She is survived by three children, Geraldine Gerali, Sharon (Don) Novelle and Shirley (John) Morris; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all of Chicago. She is also survived by four brothers, Leonard Harnisch, Marvin Harnisch, Laverne Harnisch and Ray (Dorothy) Harnisch, all of Wisconsin; four sisters, Doris Sedlacek of Chicago, Mae Marnisch of St. Petersburg, Fla., Joyce Deems of San Diego, Calif., and Helen (Frank) Genna of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas, John and Edward, and her parents, William and Mary Harnisch.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in Chicago.
H. Preston Grandstaff
H. Preston Grandstaff, age 81, of Menomonie, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie.
Henry Preston Grandstaff was born Sept. 4, 1919 in Tolu, Kentucky to Andrew J. and Jessie P. (Bryles) Grandstaff.
He attended grade school in Rosiclare, Ill. and graduated from Fitchans High School in Springfield, Ill.
He trained in optical dispensing at White Haines Optical Co. in Springfield and went to work at Uhleman Optical Co. in Springfield. He later went into business with Dr. C.C. Englehart, Ophthalmologist in Ironwood, Mich. Upon the death of Dr. Englehart, Preston was called to Benson Optical in Eau Claire in 1952.
In 1953 he accepted a position at Rochester Opticians, Rochester, Minn. In 1954 he became the manager of Duffens Contact Lens Co. in Salina, Kan. Preston fitted both artificial eyes and contact lens for ophthalmologists.
Preston married Eliza M. Repseth on Oct. 9, 1952 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie.
While in Salina, he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a member and officer of the Mr. & Mrs. Club of St. John's and also served as Sunday School treasurer for ten years.
He was an officer in various square dance clubs in Salina.
Preston served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was discharged in 1943.
Upon retirement in 1984 he and his wife moved to Menomonie. They became members of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed the friendships of members in the (Seniors) Silver Thread Club. He was also a past president and treasurer of the Silver Threads.
Preston is survived by: His wife, Eliza; a beloved pet poodle, "Saydee;" a nephew, James (Linda) Grandstaff of Springfield, Ill.; a niece, Barbara Weber of Springfield, Ill.; grandnieces all of Springfield: Traci Grandstaff, Trisha Lind, Casandra Miller and Christine Weber; a cousin, Harvey (Shirley) Walton of Iowa; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Don Duesing; a brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Jane Grandstaff; and nephew, Rex Grandstaff.
There will be a Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April, 18, 2001 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Rolf Morck officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in Christ Lutheran/Halvorson Cemetery.
It is suggested that memorials go to Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie.
Myrtle M. Jacobson
Myrtle M. Jacobson, age 83, of Ridgeland, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at the Barron Medical Center.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at the Ridgeland Lutheran Church with burial in the Hay River Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Hay River.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mark Rausch Funeral Home in Dallas and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Clarence Robert "Bob" Krause
Clarence Robert "Bob" Krause, age 85, of Menomonie, went home to be with the Lord with his family at his side on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.
Bob was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Menomonie, the son of Robert and Clara (Brado) Krause. Bob moved with his family to La Crosse where he grew up. Bob graduated from La Crosse High School and attended one year of college at La Crosse. He then attended college at Stout and graduated in 1939. Bob taught at a vocational school in Wausau for a short time. Bob was a civilian employee with the U.S. Navy at Navy Pier in Chicago during World War II.
Bob married Helen Good of Menomonie in 1942. Helen preceded him in death in 1956. After the war, he began his career with General Motors. During his 37 years with General Motors, he lived in various states, serving in a variety of management positions. In 1961, he married Helen Anderson of Menomonie. Bob retired from the Fischer Body Division of General Motors in 1982 where he was Director of Management, Manpower Training & Development.
During his retirement years, Bob and Helen enjoyed traveling between their home in Michigan and their winter home in Cape Coral, Fla. In 1999, they returned to Menomonie from their home in Michigan, and still wintered in Florida.
Bob was an active member of the Stout Alumni Association, a 50-year member of Menomonie Masonic Lodge #164, Free and Accepted Masons, and was an avid fisherman and sports fan.
Bob is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Jane M. (David) Newsome of Houston, Texas, Peggy A. (Steve) Moe of Edina, and Mary Jo (John) Hayes of Conway, S.C.; a stepson, David E. (Lore) Duenkel of Naperville, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Lee Newsome, Stephany Moe, Alicia (Hayes) Jones, Jan (Hayes) Skipper, Tracie (Hayes) Neal, Michael Duenkel and Sylvia Duenkel; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife in 1956; a brother, Harold; a sister, Marge Knight; and a stepson, Richard Duenkel.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at the Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev. David Tuff officiating. Burial was in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Menomonie.

Mabel E. Hardy
Mabel E. Hardy, age 98, of Menomonie, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Mabel was born on Nov. 2, 1903, in the Town of Menomonie to John and Augusta (Strehlau) Green. She married LaVerne Hardy in July 1924 in Menomonie. She lived in the Menomonie area all her life.
Mabel worked at Ben Franklin and Jaeger's Bakery until retiring from the bakery in 1967. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and babysitting, especially her grandchildren and her neighborhood children.
Mabel is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Hardy of Menomonie and Sandra (Kenneth) Marquardt of Forest Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren, Sheila (Allan) Lemke of Anoka, Minn., Brian (Kelly) Marquardt of Lindstrom, Minn., David (Elizabeth) Marquardt of Longmont, Colo., and Scott (Jennifer) Marquardt of Parkers Prairie, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Mark (Rachel) Lemke, Craig (Joy) Lemke, and Tanner, Lauren, Keller and Jack Marquardt; one great-great-grandson, Dalton Lemke; four sisters, Edna Gallman, Esther Thibado and Marion (Clarence) Ford, all of Menomonie, and Dorothy Dickerson of Warren, Mich.; one brother, John (Ann) Green of North St. Paul, Minn.; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Irma Hathaway and Lillian Wagner; and four brothers, Louie, Harry, Melvin and Clarence Green.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie with the Rev. J. David Whelan officiating. Burial was in Peace Lutheran Cemetery.

Goldie C. Larrabee
Goldie C. Larrabee, age 89, of Menomonie, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at the Dunn County Health Care Center.
The former Goldie Clara Braselton was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Georgetown, Ill., to Jacob and Cora (Collom) Braselton. After graduating from the eighth grade in Georgetown, she worked for several families in Gary, Ind. When she was 19 she moved to Wisconsin to live with a sister. She met Everett Larrabee and they were married on Dec. 24, 1932, at Forest Center in the Town of Spring Brook in Dunn County. They farmed in the Town of Spring Brook until 1989 when they moved to Menomonie. She was a resident of the Dunn County Health Care Center for six years.
At the age of 70, Goldie decided she would like to earn her high school diploma. She persevered and received her GED two years later in 1985. Goldie was active in the Forest Center Church of the Nazarene for many years where held various offices. She helped out on the family farm and worked in several restaurants and in a motel in Menomonie while she was raising her family and caring for her elderly mother.
Goldie will be remembered for her wonderful hospitality and the many delicious meals she served for friends and relatives. Goldie loved her family, was always there when they needed her, and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. Her family was the recipient of some of her needlework and sewing projects.
Goldie is survived by one son, Kenneth, and two daughters, Connie (Forest) Bixby and Norma (Brian) Gabriel, all of Menomonie; seven grandchildren, David Larrabee, Rick (Barb) Larrabee and Vicki (Tom) Anderson, all of Menomonie, Randy (Karen) Larrabee of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Scott (Toni) Bixby, Brian (Tamara) Bixby and Evan Gabriel, all of Menomonie; 11 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ben, Rachael and Emily Larrabee, Zachary, Alaina and Gabriel Anderson, Samantha and Jessica Larrabee, and Lindsey and Sawyer Bixby; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant sons, Donald and Richard; her parents; seven brothers, three infants and Tom, Ben, Melvin and Raymond Braselton; and three sisters, one infant and Nettie (Harold) Larrabee and Ada (Charles) Larrabee.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Oak Ridge Church in Menomonie with the Rev. Jim Folz officiating. Burial was in Forest Center Cemetery in the Town of Spring Brook.

Charles "Charlie' Mattison
Charles "Charlie" Mattison, age 75, of Elk Mound, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Area Nursing Home in Colfax.
Charlie was born May 2, 1925, in Menomonie to Arnold and Cora (Wold) Mattison. He attended school in Menomonie and at age 15 moved to Milwaukee. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Nov. 12, 1943, and served for three and one-half years during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. He was discharged on April 15, 1946.
On Oct. 21, 1949, he married Marjourie Brown at Barum Lutheran Church. Charlie was employed with Uniroyal for 32 years, did construction, and worked at Pope and Talbot, both in Eau Claire, and had the Mattison Berry Farm in Elk Mound. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Marjourie of Elk Mound; children, Daniel (Cindy) and John (Sherry) Mattison and Kathleen (Thomas) LaPean; grandchildren, Joseph, Sena, Benjamin and Christy; and four lifelong friends, Juleen Tiller and Allyn Pracht, both of Menomonie, Bob Kausrud of Portland, Ore., and Gerald Weiman of Fond du Lac.
Funeral services for Charlie were Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, from the Barum Lutheran Church with Pastor Hal Schroetter officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Sampson Funeral Chapel in Colfax was in charge of arrangements.
