MADISON — Leland E. Smiley, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Woodland House, Madison.
He was born Jan. 21, 1910, in Massena, Iowa, the son of Leon Wilmot and Bertha (Buchanan) Smiley. As a boy, he moved with his family to a farm near Curtiss. In June 1930 he began working for the Northern States Power Company as a lineman with a construction crew at Owen.
Leland married Eleanor Green on Dec. 31, 1936, in Lancaster, Wis. He continued to work for the power company as a lineman in Stanley, a transmission line patrolman covering the area from Chippewa Falls to Abbotsford and finally, as a NSP District Representative in Thorp. During World War II he worked the Green family farm while working full time for NSP, because his brother-in-law and brother were in the Army. After the war he bought a small dairy farm in Curtiss where he raised horses. After his retirement from NSP on Feb. 28, 1974, he lived in Thorp, Cadott, Stanley, Marshfield and Madison.
In 1984 he married Fran Isaacs who died in December 1987.
He is survived by three children, Kathleen (Richard) Krueger of Charlevoix, Mich., Thomas (Elaine) Smiley of Madison and Barbara (Robert) Bishop of Crystal Lake, Ill; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor; his brothers, Lester and Donald; and his sister, Mary Bulgrin.
Dad loved the outdoors, as a place to work both as a farmer and as a lineman, for recreational fishing and pheasant hunting with his labrador, which he continued until he was 80 years old. He enjoyed riding horses and training hunting dogs. He was a long time member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and of the Stanley Methodist Church, serving as a board member and usher.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Monday, June 19 at Stanley Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Swarr officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Curtiss.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley.
Memorials may be made to the Stanley Methodist Church.
Delores J. Sorenson
Delores J. Sorenson, 63, of 842 Pumphouse Rd., Chippewa Falls, died Thursday evening, June 15, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
She was born April 29, 1937, in Chippewa Falls to Emma (Vogler) and Frank Bollom. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School.
Delores had been employed as a bookkeeper at Johnson Manufacturing Company and Meyer Chevrolet, both in Chippewa Falls. In 1978, she started work at Cray Research, where she worked until her retirement in 1998.
She was married to Grant E. Sorenson on April 28, 1987, in Chippewa Falls.
Survivors include her husband, Grant Sorenson of Chippewa Falls; two sons, Rex Beachem and Ryan (Tracy) Beachem, all of Chippewa Falls; her parents, Emma and Frank Bollom of Chippewa Falls; two stepsons, Robert Sorenson and Terry (Jean) Sorenson, all of Sioux City, Iowa; one brother, Richard (Joyce) Bollom of Trego; and six step grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, at Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Donald C. Thorson officiating. Burial will be in Brunswick Cemetery, Eau Claire County.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Lori L. Woodall
CONROE, Texas — Lori L. Woodall, 41, formerly of Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, in Conroe, Texas, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 26, 1958, in Eau Claire, the daughter of Jielda (Miller) and Harlen Bahr. She grew up in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chi-Hi in 1977. She enlisted into the Army in September 1977 and during her eight years of service she received the Army Service Ribbon, (2) Army Good Conduct Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon, Rifle M-16 Expert Badge, Army Commendation Badge, Hand Grenade Sharpshooter Badge and had rank of Sergeant.
Lori continued her education and became an LPN after leaving the Army and took great pride in her career.
She is survived by her children, Dietra Alyece (15), Chanse Marcus (14), and Chelsea Makalah (6); her parents; a brother, Kevin (Cathy Schwartz); a sister, Bekki (Shane Rich); several nieces; a nephew; her 96-year old maternal grandmother, Jeraldine L. Miller; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Olaf and Joyce Bahr; and maternal grandfather, Lester Miller.
A Memorial service will be held Monday, June 19 at Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.
Visitation is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a service with Pastor Thorson officiating.
Lewis ‘Pat’ P. Feuerstein
STANLEY — Lewis “Pat” Patrick Feuerstein, 47, of 11662 County Hwy. H, Stanley, town of Delmar, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at his residence.
He was born June 1, 1953, in Ionia, Mich. the son of Lewis and Marie (Jakeway) Feuerstein. He grew up in the area and attending area schools, graduating as Valedictorian from Belding High School in 1971. In 1976 he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with honors from Michigan State University.
Lewis married Sharon Lingen on April 21, 1979, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley. They lived in the Greenwood-Loyal area and Lena, Wis. area where he practiced before coming to Stanley where he merged with Dr. Michael Navratil at Wolf River Veterinary in 1980. In 1990 they merged with Stanley Veterinary Service. In 1996 he was president of the Northwestern Wisconsin Veterinarian Association.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Stanley Chamber of Commerce, Stanley Lion’s Club and the F.F.A. Alumni in which he was always involved in their tree sales.
Lewis was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, belonging to the National Wild Turkey Federation, Safari Club, Whitetails Unlimited, Duck’s Unlimited, and Taylor County Sportsman’s Club. He also enjoyed tree farming in which he was Taylor County’s Tree Farmer of the Year in 1998 and belonged to Northwest Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Club.
He also enjoyed ATV riding, traveling and being with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; one son, Robert Patrick; and one daughter, Jennifer, all of Stanley; one brother, John (Kathy) of Wyoming, Mich.; one sister, Gloria Rich of Greenville, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis in 1983; his mother, Marie in 2000; and a brother, Charles in 1987.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley.
Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, with a Parish Vigil Service to be recited at 8 p.m.
John R. Button
John R. Button, age 81, died Friday, November 26, 1999 at Marinuka Manor Nursing Home in Galesville, Wis.
John was born February 19, 1918 to George and Sophie (Pederson) Button in the Town of Gale Hardies Creek area.
John loved working with cattle. He worked on a farm in Chippewa Falls and moved back to the Galesville area where he worked on Miles McKeeth and Morris Meunier's farms for many years.
John is survived by many distant cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at Hardies Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery. Rev. John Ashland officiated.

Ronald C. Van Natta
Ronald C. Van Natta, 84, of 330 Frenette Dr. #2, Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at St. Joseph\'s Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
He was born Dec. 2, 1915, in Elgin, Ill. to Mabel N. (Cline) and Raymond L. Van Natta. He was raised in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1937.
Ronald married Mary Jane Head on Sept. 20, 1940, in Elgin. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre from 1944-1945. He was then employed at the Elgin Water Department for 34 years, retiring as Superintendent in May, 1980. He and his wife moved to Chippewa Falls in October, 1997 to be near their daughter and her family.
He was a member of the VFW in Elgin; the American Legion in Chippewa Falls and in Elgin; the Golden K in Elgin; and the AWWA.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Pat (Norman) Sanders of Poplar Grove, Ill., Mary (Dennis) Brown of Chippewa Falls; one sister, M. Noreen Pearson of Hopkinton, Iowa; two bothers, Ralph Van Natta, R. John (Harriett) Van Natta, both of Riverside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Dory (Jeff) Bartz, Paul (Jennifer) Sanders, Jay, Marcy, and David Sanders, Peggy (Jon) Mattison, Susie Brown; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 7, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, with Rev. Gerald W. Mann, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Mary Janese Sazama
Mary Janese Sazama, 86, of 658 Heritage Court, Chippewa Falls, died Thursday morning, July 6, 2000, at her home.
She was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Madison, the daughter of Ella Frances (Conlin) and William Frederick Cline. She was raised in Madison where she graduated from St. Patrick\'s School, Madison East High School and the University of Wisconsin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics, majoring in Nutrition. She did post-graduate training at Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. She was then head of the Dietetics Dept. at the Marshfield Clinic, Methodist Hospital and the Jackson Clinic in Madison.
Janese married Dr. John J. Sazama on June 22, 1939, in Madison. After their marriage, they resided in Bloomer for six years and have resided in Chippewa Falls since that time.
She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Chippewa Falls, St. Joseph\'s Hospital Auxiliary, and the Elks Ladies.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. John J. Sazama; three daughters, Jane Helen Birtwistle of San Jose, Calif., Carol Mary Sazama of Medford, N.J., Elizabeth Ann (Bert) Pulitzer of Greenwich, Conn.; four sons, The Honorable Judge Thomas John (Mary) Sazama of Chippewa Falls, Richard Cline (Debra) Sazama, M.D. of Eau Claire, William Joseph (Janice M. Bischel) Sazama of Chippewa Falls, John Patrick (Alison) Sazama of Chippewa Falls; 12 Grandchildren, Bruce MacDonald Birtwistle, Sarah Janese (Christopher) Giusti, Helen Cline Birtwistle, Stephen Edward Sazama, Caroline Ann Sazama, Andrew John Sazama, Annalise Marie Sazama, Janese Cline Sazama, Alexander James Sazama, Graham Thomas Sazama, Ella Frances Sazama, Ellen Elizabeth Pulitzer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Helen Ruth Cline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 8 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls, with Father Frank Corradi of St. Olaf\'s Catholic Church officiating. Private family entombment will be held at Hope Mausoleum, Chippewa Falls.
