Justine M. Marshall, 89, of Beloit, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center in Beloit, Wisconsin. Justine was born February 16, 1920 in Beloit, WI the daughter of Elmer and Elsie (Bartz) Gerloff. She married Ray “Bud” Marshall July 23, 1948 in Beloit. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1994. Justine was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and worked as an O. R. Technician at the “old” Beloit Hospital for seventeen years.
Justine is survived by her two sisters, Eleanor Morse of Rockton, IL, and Geri Wells-Kennedy of Beloit, a brother in law, Elgee (Gloria) Marshall and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud and her parents and two brothers in law, Ron “Lucky” Wells and Kelly Morse.
Justine’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, 28, 2009, in the SCHOENFELD-MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. Edward H. May and Rev. George Raap co-officiating. Friends will be received Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to East Lawn Cemetery for interment following Justine’s service. All are invited back to the Funeral Home for a catered lunch to be served in the new Community Room. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and Beloit regional Hospice.
Larry D. Schoonover
Clinton, WI
Larry D. Schoonover, age 62, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Harbor House in Clinton surrounded by his family. Larry was born December 17, 1946 to Leon and Doris (Thompson) Schoonover. He graduated from Clinton High School class of 1965 and soon married his High School sweetheart the former Charlotte Osland on September 24, 1966 at the Clinton United Methodist Church. Larry enlisted into the U. S. Navy in August of 1965 and served his Country in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in August of 1969. He was a member of Central Christian Church. Larry was a carpenter by trade but spent his life building a strong relationship with his Lord and his family. He was always willing to help anyone in need of help, even if it was a stranger. Most of all Larry loved his grandchildren, his ever present smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Schoonover; his five children, Chris (Rick) Gilpatrick, Eric (Kari) Schoonover, Laura Schoonover, Carrie (Andy) Kooyenga and Dan (Sara) Schoonover; twelve grandchildren, Perry, Corey, Riley, Lauryn, Caleb, Jacob, Evan, Grayson, Sylvia, Ava, Austin, and Asher and two on the way! He is further survived by his mother, Doris Larsen, a twin brother, Leonard (Denise) Schoonover; two sisters, Patricia (Keith) Hackett & Karen (Ron) Hardt and many longtime friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Larry’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at CENTRAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 2460 Milwaukee Road, Beloit with Rev. David Meding officiating. Friends will be received on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the SCHOENFELD-MARK Funeral Home, 504 Milwaukee Rd., Clinton and again on Tuesday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. All are welcome to join the family for luncheon and fellowship following Larry’s service. Interment with full Military Burial Rites will take place in Clinton Cemetery. A memorial is being established in his name.
Nancy Ann Greene
Nancy A. Greene, 67, of Beloit, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, in University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, WI. She was born May 17, 1942, the daughter of Lester and Rose Johansen Bue. She was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1960. Nancy married Joseph C. Greene, Jr. in St. Jude Catholic Church on December 2, 1961. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Beloit Memorial Hospital, a drug counselor with ABARIS Treatment Center and a Licensed Practical Nurse at River Bluff Nursing Home. Nancy was a member of ALANON and the Class of ’60 Breakfast Group. She enjoyed traveling, going to the theatre, shopping and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; five children, Steven (Linda) Greene of Madison, WI, Jon (Crystal) Greene of Nichols, SC; Kathren (Dean) Sukus and Jennifer Greene both of Janesville, WI, and Sara (Mike) Ahrens of Roscoe, IL; ten grandchildren, Joseph Tyler Greene, Jennifer (Ryan) Potts, Andrew Greene, Jonah Greene, Emily Ahrens, Allison Sukus, Brendan Sukus, TJ Greene, Crystian Greene and Michael Ahrens; five siblings, Karen Greene of Stillwater, MN, Robert (Lynda) Bue, William Bue, Geoff (Diana) Bue and Christopher (Dawn) Bue all of Beloit, WI; several nieces and nephews and special relatives and friends including her ALANON and Class of ‘60 friends.
“God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be. So He wrapped his arms around you, and whispered, “Come to me”. You didn’t deserve what you went through, So He gave you rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best, And when I saw you sleeping, So peaceful and free from pain, I could not wish you back to suffer that again”.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nancy’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI with Father Gary L. Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Thabor Cemetery, Beloit, WI. The family will greet family and friends on Friday, August 28, 2009, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the BRIAN MARK Funeral Home (formerly Schoenfeld-Mark), 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI.
Omar O. Parrish
South Beloit
Omar O. Parrish, age 83, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born December 15, 1925 to the late Cyril and Ethel (Oliver) Parish in LaGrange Indiana. Omar married the former Vida Vance on September 20, 1950 in Soldiers Grove, WI. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on February 28, 1944 until January 3, 1946 and was called back on January 4, 1946 until his Honorable Discharge July 3, 1947. Omar was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal and other Campaign Ribbons and Medals for his valiant Service. He worked at Fairbanks as a machinist for 36 years until his retirement in 1988 and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Omar was an active member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church serving in many Church activities and as an usher. He enjoyed reading, the outdoors and especially fishing. Most of all, Omar’s greatest joy in life was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vida Parrish; his four children, Susan (Gary) Angotti, Robert Parrish, Deborah (Mark) Waite and Michael Parrish; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; his brother Clyde (Jean) Monroe; his sister in law, Verda Parish and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Jean Defontaine & Betty Yokum, his brother Claude Parish and daughter in law Val Parrish.
Omar’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009, in TRINITY Ev. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1850 Cranston Road with Rev. Edward H. May officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following Omar’s service the cortege will process to Floral Lawns Cemetery for Committal Prayers and Full Military Burial Rites. A memorial is being established in Omar’s name to benefit Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church.
Will “Bill” Rogers
Beloit
Will “Bill” Rogers, age 74, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 23, 2009 at U.W. Hospital in Madison. Bill was born June 19, 1935 to the late George and Mabel (Radloff) Rogers in Milton, WI. He married the former Colleen “Korkki” Youmans on July 2, 1955 in Rockford. Bill worked at GM as a Millwright in Janesville for 38 years until his retirement in 1989. Bill & Korkki moved to Florida in 1989 and stayed active in local affairs. Bill served on the Citizens Sheriffs Dept and Advisory Board in Lake County, FL., and managed retirement properties in Clermont, FL. In 2007 Bill & Korkki returned to Beloit to be closer to family. Most recently they managed Burton Ridge Apartment Complex in Beloit. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Packer and Snapper fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Korkki Rogers of Beloit; two sons, Steve (Mary) Rogers of Clinton and George Rogers of Rockford; one daughter, Debra (Willie) Pryor of Rockford; five grandchildren, Stevie, Haley, Callie, Alexandra & Shawn; and eight great children. He is further survived by two sisters, Helen (Odell) Flister & Madeline Parker; four brothers, Milton Rogers, Shirley “Biff’ Rogers, Harold Rogers and Clarence Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kendra Puffer, two grandchildren, Whittney Rogers & Judy Whipple, his brother George and his sister, Mae.
Bill’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on FRIDAY August 28, 2009 in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. Will Parker officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday August 27th at the Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday at the Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following Bill’s service, lunch will be provided in the Funeral Home banquet Hall. A memorial is being established in Bill’s name.
Mary Margaret Mathewson
Beloit
Mary M. Mathewson, age 103, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Beloit Health & Rehab under the care of Beloit Regional Hospice. She was born December 8, 1905, in Plymouth Township, Rock County, Wisconsin to the late August W. and Ida (Kettle) Borkenhagen. She was baptized and confirmed at Luther Valley Church. Mary married Lyle Mathewson on May 27, 1925 in Rockford, IL. He died on December 6, 1961. Mary and Lyle farmed for many years and then moved to Beloit in 1951. She was employed by the Beloit College and later the Beloit Corporation and the Beloit Corporation Guest House. She was a dedicated Chicago Cub fan and always had a lovely flower garden. Mary cherished her years at Luther Valley and was a faithful member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Edith (Ralph) Carlson of Beloit, WI and Elaine (Donald) Nelson of Clinton, WI; three sons, Raymond (Shirley) Mathewson and LeRoy Mathewson both of Beloit, WI and Roland (Elsie) Mathewson of Orfordville, WI; three sisters, Wilma Larsen of Janesville, WI, Ida Hillison of Orfordville, WI and Ethel Buckner of South Beloit, IL; twelve grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kodras, Beloit Regional Hospice and the staff at Beloit Health and Rehabilitation for the care they gave our mother the last three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sons, Richard Mathewson and Charles Mathewson, a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Mathewson, a grandson, Brian Nelson, six brothers, Elmer, John, Ivan, August, Charles and Orin Borkenhagen.
Mary’s funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2009, in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI with the Reverend James Hagen of Plymouth United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Plymouth Cemetery, Rock County, WI. Friends may call Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of service in the funeral home.
