Alma H. McLean, 93, passed away at Alden Meadow Park Health Care Center, Clinton, WI December 1, 2008. She was the daughter of the late John G. and Augusta (Borne) Berger. She was born on September 1, 1915 outside the small village of Cherry Valley, IL. Her family feels she choose December 1, to be with her daughter Nancy to help her celebrate what would have been Nancy’s 62nd Birthday.
Alma had a great love of all animals, especially horses. She and her big sister Frieda would ride their ponies every day to the one room school house about two miles from the farm they grew up on. If anyone couldn’t find her the first place they would look would be in the barn or pasture wherever the horses would be.
In later years, Alma worked at Oak Manufacturing in Elkhorn, WI for eighteen years. After her years at Oak’s she moved to the small town of Whittemore, Michigan to be with Nancy and her family and to be near her grandchildren and to again be doing the thing she enjoyed the most, horse back riding thru the beautiful country side with her daughter. Alma moved back to Wisconsin in the year 2000 after the death of her precious daughter to live with and be near family.
She is survived by one daughter, Rose Gestrich, grandson, Thomas (Nick) Gestrich Jr. (Wendee) George (PeeWee) McIlmurray, granddaughter, Angela (Tony) Laver, great grandson, Scott (Kris) Gestrich, great granddaughters, Ami Gestrich (Terese), Katie and Lauren McIlmurray, three great grandsons, Zachary, Jacob, Ryan Gestrich, five step grandchildren, Kelly, Lori, Dan, Mike and Jim all from the state of Oregon. Also by three special nieces, Phyllis Alexander, Alice Brown, Bernice (Chick) Shawbacker and their families, good friends, Lorraine Brown, Shirley Stanton and Valerie Hahn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Nancy McIlmurray, a sister Frieda Austin, two brothers, Bernhard and George, a step daughter, Virginia Robb, a niece Dolores Austin, a niece JoAnne (Berger) Miller, and her favorite son-in-law, Thomas Gestrich Sr, and two Schnauzers, Alfie and Pepper.
Alma’s Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday December 6, 2008 at Alden Meadow Park Health Care Center in Clinton with Chaplain Ted Niehaus officiating.
Gwendolyn E. Cocking

Age 68, died Saturday February 7, 2009 at home. Gwen was born September 14, 1940 to the late George and Helen (Stanton) Blohm in Montfort, WI. She attended Beloit Memorial High School graduating 1958. Gwen married Robert Cocking at Grace Methodist Church in Beloit in 1958. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1978. Gwen devoted her entire professional life to helping people in the healthcare industry. She co-managed the Kiltner Nursing Home with her mother in the early 1960’s and served the Beloit Community for nearly 50 years working in the Beloit Memorial Hospital system retiring in 2008. Gwen was an outspoken and free spirited soul who enjoyed touring the country on the back of Bob’s motorcycle. She enjoyed gardening, playing card games, dominos and trivia. Her home was always a welcoming place offering a strong cup of coffee and a fresh cinnamon roll. She loved anything to do with Lucille Ball, seasonal decorating of her house and was a staunch supporter QVC over the years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her brother Roger (Beverly) Blohm of South Beloit; her niece Kathy (Randy) Loescher of Beloit; her two nephews, Randy (Becky) Blohm of Waukee, Iowa & Curt (Isabel) Blohm of Beloit; great nephew, Derek (Melissa) Loescher; four great nieces, Kristina (Dan) Mowers, Danielle Blohm, Erin (Jason) DeZwarte and Sarah (Georges) Hanna. She is further survived by her great great nieces, Abby, Gracie, Lizzie and Anne Sophie, her beloved dog Max, and her special friends, Diane Govert, Ann Churches & Sandy Anderson.

Gwen’s Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday February 11, 2009 at the SCHOENFELD-MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Rev. Kurt Handrich of Spirit of Hope Church officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday at the Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Following Gwen’s Service the cortege will process to Floral Lawn Cemetery for Interment. Memorials may be directed to Beloit Regional Hospice.
Ruth M. Welch
Clinton
Age 88, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in her home. She was born February 29, 1920 in Kewanee, IL to the late Leslie and Jesse (Pask) Good. Ruth attended college at Ames Iowa College where she met, fell in love with and eventually married James Welch on November 23, 1941.
Through their life together Ruth assisted James in his veterinary practice, along with raising their children. Ruth was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she enjoyed sermons and played the organ for 25 years. She was an active volunteer at the Green Lake Conference Center where she enjoyed making the green house flourish. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker who believed in doing things the personal and old fashioned way. She welcomed any new person or situation with enthusiasm and kindness. She exhibited an extraordinary ability to add cheer to your day, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Pat) Welch of Clinton and Craig (Karen) Welch of Hubertus, her daughter, Ann L. Welch of Clinton, five grandchildren, Laura (Jose) Perez, Michelle (Roy) Nelson, Robyn Welch, Courtney (Gary) Joers, Andrew Welch and two great grandchildren, Julian and Justin Welch-Perez.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents and her brother Robert (Josephine) Good.
A celebration of her full life will be Noon on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 309 Allen Street, Clinton with Rev. Matt Graff officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at Church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private family inurnment will take place in the Clinton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clinton High School Scholarship or Heifers International. All are welcome to join the family for luncheon and fellowship in the Church hall.
Harlan Schut
Clinton
Age 71, died unexpectedly Friday January 9, 2009 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Harlan was born February 25, 1937 to the late Sam & Viola (Zinmaster) Schut in Valentine, NE. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1955 and farmed in the Clinton area. He married the former Edna Mesman on September 12, 1958 in Springfield, South Dakota. Harlan was drafted into the US Army in 1959 and served his county until his honorable discharge in 1962. His military service included a tour of duty in Germany. He was a longtime active member of Emmanuel Reformed Church serving as a Deacon and Elder. Harlan also sang for 25 years in the Emmanuel’s Men Quartet. He worked for Warner Electric as a Machinist for 31 years until his retirement in 1999. Harlan loved to fish and golf and was often seen enjoying an afternoon bike ride. His greatest pride was his four wonderful grandchildren. Time spent with his four precious angels were some of his happiest days. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna Schut of Clinton; two sons, Russell (Sara) Schut of Clinton and their two children, Bryan & Jarod, Curtis (Debra) Schut of Janesville and their two children, Casey & Maggie; two brothers, Harold (Janis) Schut of Janesville and Allen (Holly) Schut of Brandon; his sister Bonnie (John) Schoville of Clinton and many friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harlan’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the EMMANUEL REFORMED CHURCH, 319 East Street, Clinton with Rev. Clyde Rensink officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to Clinton Cemetery for interment and committal prayers following the service. All are welcome to join the family for luncheon and fellowship at Church following the burial.
Neal T. Amos
Beloit
Neal T. Amos age 79, died Thursday January 1, 2009 at home. He was born May 21, 1929 to the late Harold and Paula (Such) Amos in Milwaukee, WI. Neal graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1948. He married the former Donna Hoch on August 13, 1962 in Woodstock, IL. Donna and Neal attended the Redeemer Ev. Covenant Church for many years. It was that Church family who supported them thru the difficult times. Neal was a draftsman by trade and worked at Fairbanks Morse for 43 years designing clutch and brake systems until his retirement. His retirement lasted 1 week, when he joined HCI Controls. He worked at HCI until they were consumed by Woodward Governor and the jobs were sent to Colorado. Neal didn’t choose to relocate to Colorado as he was so grounded in the Midwest area particularly the property he and his wife owned in Adams County. It was there at their cabin Neal was so at home. He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying the fishing, boating, and hunting that the area had to offer. Spending time with friends and family and enjoying the beauty of the Wisconsin River were some of his happiest moments. While loving to hunt and fish, Neal also was able to capture the beauty of nature in his very detailed artwork which is treasured by his family. Some of the artwork will be displayed Wednesday at Church.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Amos of Beloit; his son, Michael (Kim) Amos of Lakeville, MN, their two children, Lily & Connor; his daughter, Tracy (Shane) Jurrens of Iowa; his Godson, Kurt Krueger of Neenah; a brother, Jack (Joan) Amos of Milwaukee, a sister Judy Shapiro of Milwaukee and a brother in law, Kent (Mary) Krueger of Brookfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Bonnie Krueger and a brother in law, Skip Shapiro.
Neal’s Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday January 7, 2009 at the REDEEMER Ev. COVENANT CHURCH 2500 Prairie Avenue, Beloit with Rev. Chris Carlson officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday at Church from 10:00 a. until the time of service. A memorial is being established in his name. Ruth E. Myers

Ruth E. Myers, 78, of Beloit, passed into eternal life Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit, Wisconsin. Ruth was born December 6, 1930, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the eldest daughter of James Earl and Ava Elizabeth Rowley Simpson. Ruth was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. She wed Donald R. Myers on May 20, 1951 in Utica, OH. Ruth devoted her life to family and friends. Throughout the years she volunteered for various charitable entities and spent time employed by The Ohio Power Company, Fairbanks Morse & Company, and co-owned D.M. Manufacturing. Ruth was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, The Trudau Guild, and Beloit Country Club.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Cheryl (Dan) Voit, Mary (Doug) Eddy, Donald (Diane) Myers and Janet (Brian) Keesey all of Beloit, WI; her 11 grandchildren, Trever Voit, Lauren Voit, Crystal (Stuart) Hauge, Katie Hooker, Emily Myers, Donnie Myers, Andrew Myers, Robert Ambler, Kyle Keesey, Alex Keesey and Adam Keesey; a great grandson, Ayden Hauge; two sisters, Lois Wilson of Newark, OH and Virginia (Robert) Jauch of Napa, CA; several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family is thankful for the wonderful Medical and Nursing Staff at Beloit Memorial Hospital and Mayo Clinic for the kindness and care given to Ruth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Christina Myers.

Francis F. Rustad

Francis F. Rustad, 76, of Beloit died Sunday, December 28, 2008 in Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born May 23, 1932 in Shopiere, WI to the late George & Amy (Turk) Clark. She married Torfin ‘Rusty’ Rustad on September 2, 1950 in Beloit. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1997.
Francis attended the one room school house in Shopiere. She was a wonderful homemaker and trusted babysitter. Francis worked as a Clerk in the Shopiere Store and later worked as a Cook for Beloit College. She loved to dance and socialize with friends. Francis was an active member of the Red Hat Society, the Beloit Moose Club, the Eagles Club, the VFW and the Turtle Township Historical Committee. She could sew anything and was an accomplished quilter. Francis will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Francis is survived by her daughter, Cinda (Dana) Martin of Rockton, two grandchildren, Matthew and Amy (fiancé, Anthony Johnson) Martin of Rockton, a brother, Harold “Buck” (Zelda) Clark of Soldiers Grove, WI, a sister, Betty Shepherd of Shopiere, two sisters-in-laws, Jane Clark of Beloit & Shirley Clark of South Beloit and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded by her husband Rusty, her parents and a son, Jeffery, three brothers, Jerry, Fay and Henry and her brother-in-law, Bill Shepherd.
Francis’s Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 in the SCHOENFELD – MARK Funeral Home, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit WI with Pastor Norm Starks officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at the Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in the Shopiere Cemetery at a later date. A memorial is being established in her name to benefit Breast Cancer Research. All are invited for luncheon and fellowship at Shopiere Congregational Church following Francis’s service.
