Beloit - Lowell DeForest Nelson age 82, died Saturday April 17, 2010 surrounded by his family in his home. Lowell was born February 4, 1928 to the late Albert and Hildie (Lingman) Nelson in Roseau, MN. Lowell enlisted into the U.S. Army and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. He was formerly married to Beverly Temple, and married Donna (Roehr) Dvorak on July 15, 1972 at Burbank Manor Presbyterian Church. Lowell had a lifetime career at 3M Company, starting in Bridgeview, IL, retiring in 1985 after 37 years of service. Lowell, a charter member of Barnes Community Church, was instrumental in its conception. He enjoyed landscaping, deer hunting, and was, in general, a master of contraptions. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He valued his many friendships and his four-legged best friend, Daisy Mae. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Roehr) Nelson, his eleven children Gary Nelson, Terrie (Ed) Hennessy, Kari Nelson, Mari Nelson, Barry Nelson, Danita Longmire, Derise Nelson, Duane Nelson, Dawn (Jim) Galbreath, Debi Davis, and Dyan Drohner; his 27 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother LaDell (Lorraine) Nelson; and four sisters, Verna Haney, Lorraine Sonsteng, Geraldine Johnson and Joyce Norberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rodney Nelson and sister, Adelaine Gustafson.
Lowell’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 20th, 2010 at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF CLINTON, 309 Allen Street, Clinton with Rev. Matt Graf officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday at Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial is being established in his name. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Barnes, WI.
Anna Johnson
Beloit - Anna Johnson, 95, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 11, 1915 to the late George and Margaret (Johnson) Jefferson in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Anna was a faithful, devoted and active member of the New Covenant Church. She enjoyed family time and was a dedicated caretaker to many family members and friends. Anna also enjoyed cooking, baking and shoe shopping. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister, Pastor Susan Roman, three nieces, Annette (Livingston) McConnell, Shelby Johnson & Kenda Roman; her nephew, Richard (Maureen) Roman and a host of great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Pastor Ernest Roman, her niece, Margaret Brown and her nephew, Frank Turner.
Anna’s Funeral Service will be NOON on Monday, April 19, 2010 in the NEW COVENANT CHURCH, 515 Bluff Street, Beloit, with Minister Frank Mario Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Cemetery.
Pauline Minerva Sheldon
Beloit - Pauline Minerva Sheldon, Beloit, age 89, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing. She was born November 1, 1920 in the Town of Scott, Crawford County, WI, the daughter of the late Ervin and Annie (Martin) Whiteaker. She married Andrew (Andy) Clarence Sheldon, October 27, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1998.
While Andy was in the Service, World War II in England 1943 – 1946, overseas, Pauline worked in the Army plants at Warners and Fairbanks. When Andy returned home, they owned and ran Andy’s Highway Market in South Beloit, IL, for 24 years. Pauline helped out to give Andy a break. Pauline helped Jack Wolfram with his ball-room dancing classes in Beloit, also classes for the Blind in Janesville, and the Military Academy in Lake Geneva. She also had the honor to go to the Ballroom Dancing Convention in Chicago, IL, and dance. Pauline donated 15 years of her time to help the Salvation Army Store in Beloit.
Pauline is survived by one Grandson, Jared Sheldon, Los Angeles, CA, a daughter-in-law, Judy Sheldon, Eagan, MN, and a niece, Pauline Cagnina, Los Altos, CA. Pauline is also survived by good neighbors and friends and her adopted family, Jan and Wayne Winters, and their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy, her son, Jerry, her only sister, Geneva (GB) Bown and her parents.
Pauline’s Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, with the Rev. William Wagner officiating. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following Pauline’s service the cortege will process to Floral Lawns Cemetery for Entombment.
Dorothy M. O’Halloran
Beloit - Dorothy M. O’Halloran, age 91 died on Tuesday March 30, 2010 in her home. Dorothy was born December 20, 1918 to the late Charles H. and Loretta (Peck) Peters in Chicago, IL. She married William O’Halloran Sr. on September 1, 1936 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1970. Dorothy enjoyed cross-stitching and was a prolific reader. She approached life with a special sense of humor, just days before her death, Dorothy told her daughter, “I don’t want to die until I finish this last book.”
Dorothy was a devoted mother and grandmother; she cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Jerry) Edge; her three sons, William (Barbara) O’Halloran, Charles (Brenda) O’Halloran & Robert O’Halloran (Gene Guiab); nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and her brother Richard Peters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Betty & three brothers, Tom, Ray & Chuck.
Dorothy’s Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 7th at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CEMETERY, Cumberland & Belmont Ave, River Grove, IL. Viewing and visitation will be 5:00 p.m. Tuesday April 6th in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME. Sister Joselda Kuhle S.S.S.F. will conclude the evening with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service. A memorial is being established in her name.
Bernnetta “Grandma” Gordon
Clinton, WI - Bernnetta Gordon, age 77, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born May 16th, 1932 to the late Benhard & Bernice (Luvell) Baker in La Crosse, WI. Bernnetta enjoyed baking and cooking as well as fishing and the outdoors.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurel (Richard) Seals; her son John (Sandy) Gordon; 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She is further survived by three brothers, Wallace (Carlene) Baker, Marlin (Margie) Baker & Phillip (Eleanor) Baker; two sisters, Verda Soller & Eleanor (Richard) Boll and her special friend, John White.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eliphlet Gordon and her daughter, Mary Jane.
Bernnetta’s graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends will be received on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 504 Milwaukee Road Clinton.
Mildred Kant
Beloit - Mildred Kant, age 95, died on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Fair Oaks Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of South Beloit, IL. Mildred was born August 3, 1914 to the late George and Marie A. (Warne) Haines in Fort Atkinson, WI. She married Ralph Homer Kant on June 27, 1934 in Rockford. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1999. Mildred and Ralph owned and operated Kant’s Appliance and Toy Store in downtown Beloit for 25 years. After they closed the store in 1971, Mildred continued to work locally for a number of retail clothing stores until retirement. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Mildred was active with the Altrusa Club, the Grinnell Senior Center, Morse Hills Golf Club and the Krueger Ladies Golf League.
She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Feuerstein of Beloit; her son, Douglas (Louise) Kant of AZ; five grandchildren, Carole (Philip) Hildebrandt, Karla (Paul) Keller, John Feuerstein, Steven Kant and Debra (Clark) Woody; and eight great grandchildren, Dana, Bret, Ethan, Corinne, Andre, Mila, Ryli & Christopher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph, and her son in law, Fritz Feuerstein.
Mildred’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 27, 2010 at OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 749 Bluff Street, Beloit with Pastor Erik Jelinek officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to Eastlawn Cemetery for interment following Mildred’s service. Memorial may be made in her name to the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Sewing Bee.
