Dr. Siegfried F. Hesse
(1924-2005)
It is with great sorrow we regret to inform our friends of the passing of our loving husband and father, Dr. Siegfried F. Hesse. After a valiant six-month battle with cancer, his life faded Saturday morning, November 26th.
Siegfried was born to Adolph and Caroline (Skibba) Hesse October 26, 1924 in Bremer County, IA. At 19 he made First Sergeant in the Army during WWII, where he served as an interpreter for Italian POWs, while stationed in Lorraine, France. He attended Yale University, graduated University of California, Irvine and University of Iowa, Iowa City through the GI Bill.
Dr. Hesse is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly F. (Smith) Hesse, whom he met at his practice in Hudson, IA. They were married December 22, 1961 in Medford, WI and made their home in Rib Lake where together they enjoyed archery, backgammon, bridge, fishing, mink ranching and stamp collecting.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three children: Susan F. (Steve) Brumm of Colorado Springs, CO, Eric E. Hesse of Weston, WI, and Julie M. (John) Tollis of Canon City, CO, who are the proud parents of Dr. & Mrs. Hesse's 1st grandchild of 1 year, Peyton Nichole Tollis.
After practicing medicine in the Rib Lake area for 36 years, he retired October 1997 and moved to Canon City, CO to study paleontology, fine wines and Native American pottery.
Dr. Hesse had a thirst for knowledge, was an avid learner and teacher, and an inspiration to all who knew him. His friends expressed the world will be a lesser place without him.
'Even the Swan's Song must come to an end. I've been very lucky. I've lived a long full life; I've lived the life I wanted.'
