Oct 24 2005 Mary Gene Fitzwater of Bickmore, WV., went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Born to the late Howard and Rhoda Keith, Mrs. Fitzwater was a retired schoolteacher for the Clay County School Board for 42 years. She was also a member of the Fola Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Carmel L. Fitzwater of Bickmore, WV., her son, Greg Fitzwater, also of Bickmore, WV., and by a host of other loving friends and family. The funeral service will be held Tuesday October 25, 2005, beginning at 1 p.m. at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Rodney Smith and Tom Price officiating. will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Fola, WV. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Oct 15 2005 Doyle "Dickie" Brown, 74, of Walton, died October 13, 2005, at The Walton Inn, Walton. Born on January 15, 1931, at Indore, WV, he was the son of the late Jonathan and Sybil Reedy Brown. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Madge Baker, and his step-father, Elkin Osborne. He was a welder for NASA, and a Corporal with the US Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his brothers, Gerald Brown, Dale Brown, and Jimmy Osborne, all of Indore, and Bobby Osborne of Belva; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 2 pm Sunday, October 16, 2005, at the Jarrett Cemetery, Indore, with Minister Herbert Vance officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay.

Oct 13 2005 James Edward Mosley, Sr., 55, of Ovapa, died October 12, 2005, at home. He was born on December 23, 1949, in Floyd Co., KY, to the late Kenton Leon Mosley, Sr., and Dove Harden (Keen) Mosley, of Ovapa. He was a self-employed mechanic. In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his wife, Patsy Jean Mosley of Ovapa; sons, James Andrew Reed of Cleveland, OH, Christopher Michael Mosley of Amma, WV, and James Edward Mosley, Jr., of Lorain, OH; step-son, Hillard Tackett, Jr. of Florida; step-daughter, Lovara Tackett of Florida; brothers, Willie Mosley of Looneyville, WV, Kenton Mosley, II of Kentucky, Joseph Mosley of Clay, and John Mosley of Belmont, OH; sisters, Joyce Mechling of Rosedale, Carol Adkins of Ovapa, and Nancy Hager of Cleve-land; 11 grandchildren. Funeral service will be 12 noon on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. will follow in Memorial Gardens, East Lynn, Wayne County, WV. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sept 28 2005 Earnest Herbert Sirk, 56, of Ivydale, died Monday, September 26, 2005, at his home. He was born on December 8, 1948, to the late Cecil and and Oleta Thorn Sirk. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Sirk. He was previously employed by the Department of Highways. Survivors include his son Justin Chad Sirk, and Granddaughter Makayla Skye Sirk of Parkersburg. brother, Steve of Ivydale, and his sisters, Joyce and Karen, both of New York. There will be no services.

Sept 18 2005 Rev. William R. (Bob) Neal, 69, of Indore, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 17, 2005. Born May 22, 1936 to the late George and Lula Nottingham Neal. Preceded in death by his one son Verdis B. Neal. Bob is survived by his wife Omie Evelyn Neal of Indore, son's Rocky of Wauchula Fl., Kenneth of Indore, William of Indore, Nick of Indore, daughters Connie Vance of Lizemore, Freda Berry of Indore, Mary Truman of Indore, Cindy Elliott of Chloe, and Dixie Nottingham of Indore 26 grand children, 26 great grandchildren and brother Homer L. Neal of Indore. He was loved by many nieces and nephews and friends. Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 21, at Sycamore Community Baptist Church with minister Paul Young officiating . will follow in Neal Cemetery, Sycamore . Sept 14 2005 Daniel Wheeler, 77, of Nebo, died Sept 13, 2005 in Braxton Memorial Hospital. He was retired from the Chevrolet Plant in Cleveland, OH. Survivors include his wife, Delena Wheeler, of Nebo; 4 brothers, John, Mark, Jim and Dave; 2 step-sons, Charles and Harold Cottrell of Ohio. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the Nebo Baptist Church with Minister Darius Arnold officiating. will follow in the Hardman Cemetery, Nebo. Sept 13 2005 Jordan Varney of Maysel, "Bravest of All" 15 year old beloved son , brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, ended his 9 year battle with brain cancer Sunday September 11, 2005. He is now in peace, the people he leaves behind will forever be better people for knowing him. He will live in our hearts forever, he has taught us to make the most of what you have, don?t complain, be happy and do what you have to do. Welcoming Jordan to heaven are grandparents Bob and Edith Varney, aunt Nancy Varney, uncle Lawrence
Davis, and two special angels Kathryn and Rachel Adkins. Jordan is survived by his parents Bill and Karen Varney of Maysel ,Three brothers Billy wife Tammy ,and daughter Tailynn of Bomont, Joshua, and Nicholas at home, and one sister Katelyn at home. Aunts Ann Davis of Pinch, Sue Varney of Maysel, Mary Vaughn of Maysel, uncle John Varney of Miami Fl., several cousins Bobby, Tony, Paul Vaughn and families, special cousins Derek and Rinda Milewski (Aunt Nancy). Special friends Danny and Dawn Fitzwater, Shawna and Juston, and Aiden Taylor, Angela and Greg Brown. God has been with us through this long journey. We would like to thank the churches and the people of the community of Clay County and beyond. We had a very special lady that gave us the peace that we had
done everything possible to help Jordan here on earth. We will always keep her in our hearts, Dr. Kathy Warren of NCI, we love you. Sept 9 2005 Garnie Wilma (Hanshaw) Hamrick, 81, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Clay, entered into rest on September 6, 2005, in Clearwater. Born on Feb. 10, 1924, in Clay County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harmon and Salina Hanshaw. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C. Hamrick, Sr., and 3 sisters, Becky Kyle, Ollie Rhodes, and Chattie Stickel. She was a member of Fariview Baptist Church in Clay and Sky Crest Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL, past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a seamstress. Survivors include her son, Herbert C. Hamrick, Jr. and daughter, Josephine Carol Seese, both of Clearwater; brothers, Pat Hanshaw of Cottageville, WV, Gerald Hanshaw of Roswell, GA, William Hanshaw of Alabama, and Jack Hanshaw; sisters, Lenna Sumner of North Carolina, Beulah Woods and Iris Shimer, both of West Virginia; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September l0, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Dennis Legg officiating. will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay. Sept 7 2005 Leo Clarence Williams, 77, of Clay, passed away at home on Saturday, September 3, 2005, after a long illness. He was born on December 26, 1927 to the late Ray and Lue Williams. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son Frederick, brothers Richard, Charles, Paul, and Kenneth. Clarence was a retired coal miner from Central Appalachian Coal Company, a World War II Veteran, member of the Clay Volunteer Fire Department, and the Reserve Deputies of Clay for 29 years. After retirement, Clarence worked as a handyman and helped those in need, especially the widows. He is survived by his wife Zella Jean of 56 years, daughters Linda Dawson of Hartland, Patricia of Elkview, sons Thomas of Perry OH, and James of Valley Fork, sisters Leah Galyiano of Atco, NJ, Hazel Totten of King George, VA, Tressie White of Shrewsbury, brothers Harold of Stone Mountain, GA, Jarrell of Woodlawn VA, and Leonard of Clay. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Fairview Baptist Temple, Two Run, with minister Dennis Legg officiating. will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery, Two Run, with full VFW military rites. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay.

Sept 7 2005 Alfred Lee "Pete" Underwood, 66, of Lizemores, formerly of Mt. Hope, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, September 1, 2005, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Alfred Sr. and Julia Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, David, and Robert, and one sister, Bobbie Jo. He was retired from Eastern Hardwood at Mt. Hope and was a World War II Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife, Betty Foreman Underwood of Lizemores; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Gene Goins of Alderson, Kim and Mark Nedelco of Florida, and Julia and Henry Miller of Northport, AL; step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Jerry and Charlotte McCune of Stonewall, LA, Barry and Patsy McCune and Derrick and Arlena McCune, all of Lizemores, and Michael and Christine McCune of Indore; brothers, Walter, Thomas, and Randall Underwood, all of Mt. Hope; sisters, Carol of Mt. Hope and Judith of Ohio; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm Sunday, September, 4, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Edward McNeely officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sept 7 2005 Virginia Ferrebee Blankenship, 69, of 363 Shaw Rd. Harmony, NC, entered into rest on August 30, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born on February 25, 1936, in Clay County, WV, to the late Basil and Zelma Ferrebee. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Orvis ?O. C.? Ferrebee and 2 sisters,Beatrice Burdette and Anna Davis. She was homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Junior Ralph Blankenship of Harmony, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Zelma Sharon and Kermit Cruikshanks of Harmony; two grandchildren, Rick Murphy and Stacy Warner and one great grandchild, Mallory Warner; six brothers, Andrew "Bud" Ferrebee of Maysel, Earl ?Jim? Ferrebee of Valley Fork, William Paul Ferrebee of Maysel, David J. Ferrebee of Spencer, Basil J. Ferrebee of Elkview,and Woodrow ?Dickie? Ferrebee of Harrison; sisters, Helen Cottrell of Wallback and Jane Burkhamer of Wallback; uncles, John Summers of Perry OH, and Walter Ferrebee of Elyria, OH. Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, September 2, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Spencer Ferrebee officiating. will follow in the Summers Cemetery, Maysel, WV. Sept 7 2005 Harold Ray Fitzwater, Sr., 55, of Somerset, KY, died August 24, 2005. Born on February 7, 1950, in Clay County, WV, he was the son of the late George Delbert Fitzwater and Mary Summers Fitzwater. He was a truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Fitzwater of Somerset; children, Raymond A Coreno (Ray Jr)., Harold II, Michael, Dale Hudson, Kimberly Wachovec, Wanda Jenkins, Carolyn Renee Fitzwater; Amy Truman; one step son, three step daughters twenty five grandchildren.

Aug 28 2005 Harold Ray Fitzwater, Sr., 55, of Somerset, KY, died August 24, 2005. Aug 26 2005 Mary 'Mable' Ward Douglas, 90, of Ivydale, entered into rest on August 24, 2005, at CAMC-Memorial Division. She was born in Clay County on January 23, 1915, to George W. Ward (11/29/1888 - 5/22/1947) and Beulah L. Hager Ward (1/29/1895 - 5/30/1943) In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Franklin Douglas (5/7/1912 - 2/13/1979), brothers, Clarence, Joe and Walter Ward; sisters, Emma P?Simer, Beulah Mollahan and Charlotte Sears. She dedicated her life to caring for her family. Survivors include her son, David F. Douglas of Parkersburg; daughters, Beulah LaVaughan Douglas of Charleston and Beverly Louise Schoonover of Ivydale; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10 am Saturday, August 27, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Mike Schoonover officiating. will follow in the Douglas Cemetery, Ivydale. Aug 25 2005 Paul Harvard Sirk, 89, of Duck, entered into rest on August 23, 2005, at his home. Born on March 29, 1916, in O'Brion, WV, he was the son of the late Curtis Gary and Oma Sirk. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sirk. He was a retired coal miner from Valley Camp Coal Company, a member of the O?Brion Advent Christian Church, the UMWA, and a World War II Navy Veteran. Survivors include his son, Louie Sirk; daughters, Leah Dawson, Connie Willison, and Linda Ficarra; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10:30 am on Friday, August 26, 2005, at the O'Brion Advent Christian Church, Duck, with Minister Darius Arnold officiating. will follow in the O?Brion Advent Christian Church Cemetery at Duck. Aug 18 2005 James Ray Holcomb, 82, of Clay entered into rest on August 17, 2005, at his home. Born on June 21, 1923, he was the son of the late James Franklin and Chessie Holcomb. He was a retired coal miner from Hill Enterprises. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dulcie Brown Holcomb; sons, Bobby R, David, and Larry Holcomb, all of Clay, Jerry of Oak Hill, and Richard of Cleveland, OH; daughters, Betty Berry of Clay, Louise Myers of Cleveland, Kimberly Smith of Charleston, and Teresa Frame of Wallback; brother, Junior Holcomb of Clay; sisters, Madeline Lane of Fola, and Eva June of Jacksonville, FL; 21 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, August 20, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Tom Price officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Aug 18 2005 James Oral Whaling, 91, of Cleveland, OH, formerly of Clay passed away August 16, 2005 at home. He was born on July 27, 1914 to the late Zachariah T. (Bud) and Ruth Whaling. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; daughter, Brenda Cheraso; brother, Ellis; sister, Sylvia White; and one granddaughter. He was a retired steelworker from Republic Steel Company. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Reva Whaling of Valley Fork, WV, and Harry and Dorothy Whaling of Willoughby, OH; daughters and sons-in-law, Muriel and Carl Sizemore of Mineral Wells, WV, Phala Coulter of Cleveland, Frances and Joe Flama of Garfield Heights, OH, and Sam Cheraso of Ohio; sisters, Hazel Stover and Ruth Brown, both of Clay; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, August 19, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Elder Hubert Sears and Elder Ron Sargent presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
