Dec 12 2004 Charles Eugene Gray, child of God, loving Husband, Daddy, Grandpa, and Brother passed from the arms of his family to the arms of God on Sunday, December 12, 2004. Charles was born on April 12, 1938, to the late Hanse and Alice Gray. He will live on through his wife, Ona Rose Gray, his daughters and son by marriage, Loretta Gray and Melinda and Kevin Isaacs, and his grandson, Charles Gray Isaacs, all of Maysel, WV. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim Bill, Lowell, and Woodrow all of Sycamore, WV., Donald of Clay, WV., and sister Carol Moore of Albion, NY. One sister, Ruby Gray, preceded him in death. His Testimony of God?s grace will be an example for all of us as we continue in this world. The dignity of his life and the grace of his passing is a true example of God?s love. Dec 12 2004 William Clyde Pierson , 86 of Spencer WV, went to be with the lord on December 11, 2004, after a long illness. He was born October 11, 1918 to Benjamin Franklin and Lydia Caroline Pierson. Clyde was a welder for 35 years. He is survived by his two children, son Mike Pierson of Clay, and daughter Barbara Skaer of Lakeland Florida. 6 grandchildren Jody Pierson of Maysel, Sissy Barker of Bomont, Jake Pierson of Clay, Mika McKee Pierson of Maysel, Kevin Skaer of Pennsylvania and Michael Skaer of Florida. Sisters Thelma Hill of Hurricane, WV, Anna Walker of Charleston WV, and Virginia Whittier of Baltimore, MD. Funeral Service will be Tuesday December 14, 2004 at 3:00 P.M.

Dec 12 2004 Oleta Dawson, 88, of Clay, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2004, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Avis and Cecil Birthisel, of St. Albans, WV. Oleta was born on August 8, 1916, in Clay County to the late Harvey and Tempest Hersman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, W. L. Dawson; sister and brother-in-law, Jeneta and Harold Smith; and brothers, Dencil and Dennis Hersman. She was a retired custodian from the Clay County Board of Education. Other survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Vera Boggs (Todd) of Nitro, and Janice Scott (Jarrell) of Winfield; sons and daughter-in-law, Wilbert Lee Dawson, Jr. (Donna) of Pliny, and Virgil Dawson of Nitro; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Harry Dobbins officiating. Interment will be at the Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans. Mrs Rushing was born March 17 1935 in Clay County West Virginia, a daughter of the late John Edwar Drennen and Flisty Mae Brown Drennen. She had lived in the Albion NY area since 1967. She is survived by her children, grand children, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs Rushing was predeceased by her husband Robert G Rushing, granddaughter Tina Marie Rushing, great grandson Timothy Rushing, brothers Jake Grose, Homer Drennen, Jernie Drennen; sisters Myrtle Brown, Leona Brown, Velma Williams and Bonnie Brown. was Wednesday Dec 1 2004 at Mt Albion Cemetary. Dec 4 2004 William Samuel “Cracker” Woods, 44, of Clay, died December 2, 2004, in Whitesville of injuries sustained in a logging accident. He was born on July 23, 2960, in Braxton County, a son of Ruby Woods of Clay and the late Arthur “Kerm” Woods. He was employed by Mountain Top Clearing, LLC, as a timber cutter. He is survived by his children, William Samuel Woods, Jr., Mildred May and Jackie Jane Woods; mother, Ruby Woods of Clay; brothers, Wayne Woods of Bickmore; Carsel Gene, Roger Zane and Richard Woods, all of Clay; sisters, Shirley Gray of Lizemores, Barbara Woods of Charleston, Wilma McMorrow of Elkins, Bonnie Woods of Elkview, Fannie Woods of Gauley Bridge, Jone Kincaid of Summersville; 13 nieces and 7 nephews. Dec 3 2004 Paul Thomas Foster, Sr., 66, of Ivydale, went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2004, after a short illness. He was born on March 24, 1938, to William Thomas and Alice Foster. He was a contract bus driver, and attended Advent Christian Church of O’Brion and Faith Baptist Church of Duck. He was preceded in death by his father, and sister, Marilyn Foster. Paul is survived by his wife, Anna Lea Foster of Ivydale; five children, Debra Mayes and husband, Glen, of Duck, Donna Carte of Ivydale, Norma Fields and husband, Brent, of Wallback, Paul T. Nov 23 2004 Oliver Irvin Smith, 77, of Queen Shoals, WV, went to meet the Heavenly Father he had served for many years. He departed this life November 22, 2004, after an extended illness. Irvin left behind his wife of 41 years, Nell Belt Smith. Also surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Shane and Donna Boggs of Summerville, Sammy and Hazel Boggs of Queen Shoals, Mike and Kathy Boggs Clendenin, Mike (Bubbs) and Carrie Smith of Pierre Part, LA, Rocky and Sharon Boggs of Valley Fork, and Ed and Sandy Smith of Camp Creek, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alpha Engle of Sissonville. He was preceded in death by his son, David Smith; his parents, Garth and Minnie Smith; sisters, Alcha Samples and Waive Samples; and brothers, Wilbur (Buck) Smith, Robert (Bud) Smith and James (Eck) Smith. Irvin was retired from Dupont Corp. He was a member of the Church of God. His death has left a void that can only be filled by the assurance of knowing that he is safely in the hands of God. Nov 19 2004 Dwayne Allen Friend, 40, of Akron, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. He was born on March 31, 1964, in Akron to Denver Paul and Arbutus Jewell Friend. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by two of his brothers, Jerry Lynn and Carlos Dean Friend. He was a press operator for Injection Moulding, and attended Lakeview Lighthouse Church in Akron. Survivors include his father, Denver Paul Friend of Akron; son, Kevin Wayne Tudor of Barberton, OH; brother, Robert Keith Friend of Akron; sister, Jacquline Ann Largent of Uniontown, OH; grandson, Cyrano Seth Anthony Cottrell of Barberton. He was born on July 6, 1934, at Widen, WV, to the late Carl and Opal Baker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Paul Baker. He was a retired coal miner, an veteran of the US Army, and of the Pentecostal Faith. He is survived by his sons, Rodd Allen Baker of Richmond, VA, and Carl Robert Baker of Frederick, MD; brother, Gary Baker of Bentree; 4 grandchildren.
