June 3 2004 Roscoe Delbert Neal, 82, of Indore, died June 1, 2004, at CAMC-General Division.
He was born on November 13, 1921, in Clay County to the late George Harold and Mary Ellen Nottingham Neal. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Romie W. Elderbrandt, and his ex-wife, Emogene Neal. He was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his sons, Charles E. Neal of Richlands, VA, Carl A., Roscoe D., Scottie L., and James E. Neal, all of Indore, Teddy F. and Rex A. Neal, both of Bentree, Don W. and Robert L. Neal, both of Brockport, NY; daughters, Linda L. Neal of Ontario, NY, and Loretta Lynn Neal of Brockport; brothers, William R. Neal and Homer L. Neal, both of Indore; ex-wife, Clara Neal of Brockport, NY; 38 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, June 4, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Herbert Vance officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

June 2 2004 Miles Alan Paintiff, 20 of Strange Creek, WV, died May 30, 2004. He was born June 11, 1983 in Summersville, WV. He was a Student. He is survived by his Step-Father and Mother Charles and Keyota Braley of Ovapa. Brother Aric Braley, Briar Braley Both of Ovapa. Sister Autumn Braley of Ovapa. Paternal Grandparents Richard and Elna Paintiff, of Strange Creek. Paternal Step-grandmother Hazel Braley of Ovapa. Services will be Thursday June 3, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethel Methodist Church, with Minister Jimmie Adkins officiating. will follow in the Belcher Cemetery Ovapa WV. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday June 2, 2004 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Clay WV.

May 31 2004 Cecil V Woods, Leatherwood, WV died May 29, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born Feb 23, 1916. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Veron Woods, Mother Lilly Legg Woods, sister Thelma Woods Coleman, Half brother Ira Louden Daniels, and his wife Nell Jean Rider Woods. He is survived by a half sister, Danieth Daniels Teachey Fizzell of Mineral, VA. A step daughter Donna Ferrell Kitchen Croston, and her husband Leonard Croston of Clinton, OH. He was a veteran and a retired coal miner. He leaves a large host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends, Neighbors, Sibert, Arbutus, Shea Osborne. Graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M.Tuesday June 1, 2004 at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, WV. Service will be conducted by Rev. John Osborne.

May 28 2004 Doyle Cecil Lewis Jr.of Clay WV died May 27, 2004 at Charleston General Hospital.
He was born October 20,1957 in Sutton WV. He was the son of the late Doyle and Trecia Lewis. He was owner and operator of Cecil Lewis Pluming since 1982. He was a member of the Midstat Church of God, Gassaway WV. He is Survived by his wife Lisa (Lantz) Lewis. Son Cecil Ray and his wife Muriah Lewis of Clay, Daughter Jennifer Dawn Lewis of Clay. One grandson Cecil Maximus "Max" Lewis. Sister Trecia Ice of St. Joe In. Sandy Beth WineMiller of PA. May 24, 2004 John Ralph Patterson, 73, of Groves Creek, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at home. He was a member of the Groves Creek Community Church, and a Carpenter. May 21 2004 Darrell B. Taylor, 80, of Bickmore, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 19, 2004. He was born Jan.12, 1924, in Nicholas County to Willie and Flossie Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Taylor; Daughter, Lora; brother, Duane and Duval; and sister, Mona Jeffers. He was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church, retired from Union Carbide/Elkem Metals of Alloy, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by three sons, Ronnie of Jacksonville, NC, Rick of Clay, and Robin of Sutton; three daughters, Connie of Clay, Carol of Bickmore, and Terrie of Wallback; 14 grandchildren and 6 gret-grandchildren; brothers, Doyle of Bentree, Drexel and Denzil of Summersville, and Dorvil of Lizemore; sister Zona Rader of Summersville, Theda Dailey of Reedsville, OH, and Karn Boggs of Severn, MD. Funeral service will 2pm Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay with Minister John Osborne officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, with VFW military rites conducted by VFW Post 4419, Clay. May 21 2004 Arnold W. Ramsey, 94, of Ivydale, went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2004, at his home. He was born on December 2, 1909, to the John and Mahalia Ramsey. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Smith Ramsey; Sons, Donald (Shaker) and Larry Ramsey; brothers, Okey Raymond and Roy; and sisters, Jennie Moss and Icie Bledsoe, Laura Friend. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Nebo Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Ramsey of Ivydale; daughters, Sharon Nichols of Beavercreek, OH, and Shirley Baird of Clay; sons, Randy Allen and Sammy G., both of Ivydale, Paul of Scottsdale, PA, and Rick of Gratz PA; stepdaughters, Wanda Watkins of Chloe and Carol Copen of Nebo; stepsons, Dewey and Carmel Tanner of Nebo, and Russell Tanner of Dink; 22 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-great-grandchild. May 15 2004 Mrs. Dollie Ruth (Cutlip) Blankenship, 55, of Procious, was taken to be with the Lord on May 11, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, WV. She was born on May 8, 1949, to Jack and Mary Cutlip of Big Otter, WV. She was a homemaker and the proud mother of six children. She is survived by her spouse of 20 years, Billy Deems, of Procious; children, Eddie and Connie Scherrer of Orlando, Fl, Linda and Darrell Yoder of Barberton, OH, Scott and Shel Carte of Baberton, OH, Roger and Judy Blankenship of Clay, Timothy M. and Loretta Blankenship of Clay, and Crystal and Mark Coulter of Clay; 15 grandchildren; sisters. Freda Coad of Procious, Sarah Cook of Litchfield, OH, Avis Davis of Lansing, IA; brother, James Cutlip of LaCross, WI, Delmar Cutlip of Cleveland OH. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Timothy M. Blankenship II. May 13 2004 Virginia R. Mullins, 66 of Clay, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at CAMC Memorial Division. She was born March 20, 1938 in Nebo, WV to the late Arthur and Rosa Rogers. She was a retired office manager for Valley Gas Company, Clay. Survivors include: Daughters: Helen Gile- Creston, Iowa Karla Pierson - Maysel, WV Brothers: Earl Rogers - Rittman, OH Jerry Rogers - Detroit, MI Sister: Carol Rayhons - Lenox, Iowa Grandchildren: Kyle Eugene Gile, Samanthe Gile, and Mika Pierson The body will be cremated. There will be no services. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

May 13 2004 Ronald Lee Summers 1948-2004, 55, a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 19, 2004, in Valley Fork, WV. Ronald was the tenth child born to Patrick and Della Mae Summers on June 17, 1948, in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Clay County High School, WV, in 1967, and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968-1970. He and Marie Alice Mills were Married January 1, 1971, and they had two children, Annette Marie, born in 1972, and Ronald Keith, born in 1974, both in Akron Ohio. He lived most of his life in Ohio, and formerly of Hartville, he recently moved back to Ovapa, WV., after retiring from American Steel Foundries in Alliance, Ohio. He was close to his family and will be missed by all who loved him. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers, Oral and Arthur Allan. He is survived by his daughter, Annette Summers Engel, and son-in-law, Scott Allen Engel, of Austin, TX; his son, Keith, and daughter-in-law, Tracy Allyson Sarratt Summers, and his precious granddaughter Allyson Noel Summers, of Malvern, Ohio; his brothers, Arnold (Bud) Summers of Akron, Delbert Summers of Ivydale, WV, Elbert Summers of Middlebranch, Ohio, and James Summers of Ovapa; his sisters. Lola Summers Rogers of Valley Fork, Norma Summers Calcamp of Akron, and Charlotte Summers Jett of Valley Fork; nieces and nephews, countless other family members, and close friends. The family will receive friends from 6p.m. to 9p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home in Clay, WV. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m.Friday, May 14, at Wilson Funeral Home. will be at the Philips/Summers Family Cemetery, Ovapa, WV, with military graveside rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419. Memorial Services will be held at the Hartvill Church of the Brethren in Hartville, Ohio, at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2004. For those desiring, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

May 13 2004 Virginia Hess Cottrell, 79, of Wallback, died May 11, 2004, at her home after an extended illness. She was born on June 22, 1924 to Ottie and Hazel Hess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Dow Cottrell, and her brother, Raymond Hess.
She is survived by her companion, Robert Darrell Holcomb; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Peggy Cottrell; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharlene and Rick Perkins and Arlene and J.K. Scott; brothers, John, Jack, and Ottie A. Hess; sisters, Julie Capeheart, Helen Stephenson, Rebecca Legg, Alice Roush, and Norma Zimmerman; 10 grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2pm Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Dennis Legg officiating. will follow at the Blue Knob Church Cemetery, Maysel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Kanawha Valley Hospice, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, WV. The Family wishes to give special thanks to Donna Hoffman and Pat Taylor, Hospice Nurses.

May 11 2004 Early "Jack" McGlothlin Sr. of Harrison, went to be with the Lord May 9, 2004. He was born June 3, 1944 to the late Delmar P. and Esther P. McGlothlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Daughter, Paula J. McGlothlin and Son William P. McGlothlin. May 6 2004 Hysel Carris Workman, 68, of Ivydale, died May 5, 2004, at the VA Medical Center, Clarksburg, WV. He was born on October 3, 1935, to Alton and Runa Mae Workman. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for Majestic Mining, an Army veteran, a member of UMWA, and a member of Clay Masonic Lodge No. 97. He was preceded in death by his mother, Runa Mae Workman. Survivors include his father, Alton Workman of Camden on Gauley; son, George Michael Workman of Clay; daughters, Tamela Lane Wilmoth of Jackson, TN, and Mary Susan Sears of Big Otter; sisters, Lucille Rose of Birch River, Elsie Casto of Virginia, Jean Key of Camden on Gauley, Virginia Maddox of Virginia, Judy Dunn of Virginia; grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Workman, Eric Michael Workman, Evan Lane Sears and Rachel Lynn Sears. Graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Family Cemetery, Otterlick, WV, with Minister Wayne Litton officiating. There will be no visitation.

May 3 2004 Ruby Hanshaw, 81, of West Salem, OH, formerly of Chloe, WV, and Creston, OH, died April 26, 2004, at her home following a one-month illness. She was born May 7, 1922, in Leatherwood, daughter of the late John and Josie Fitzwater. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Romie Hanshaw, in 1987, and four brothers, Ralph, Lee, Wallace, and Zane. She graduated from Clay County High School and attended the Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and bluegrass music. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Merelene and Roger Hooser of Wooster, Gale and Mitchel Hanshaw of Wooster, Russell and Hope Hanshaw of West Salem, Jerri and Daris Metheney of Creston, Debra and Ralph Higgins of Waterloo, IN, Ronnie and Rebecca Hanshaw of Chloe, Sheena and Ricky Jarvis of Chloe, Larry and Jimed Hanshaw of Creston,Cheryl Hanshaw of Sterling, Diane and Ronnie Rucker of Ukiah, CA; two stepsons, Bill Hanshaw of Spencer and Bob Hanshaw of Ovapa; 32 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Herb West of Wallback. May 3 2004 Darrell R. Wagner, of Indore, graduated to heaven on Sunday, April 25,2004, surrounded by his loved ones. Darrell was born on May 1, 1928, to William and Ida Wagner of Clay County. He is survived by his wife, Reba E. Wagner of Indore; brother, Handsford Reed of Cleveland, OH; daughters, Rita Fernatt of Clendenin, Julie Adkins and Kay Uridel, both of Cleveland, OH; step-daughters, Eva June Tanner, Marjie Wyant, and Camilla Neal, all of Indore; son, Donald Wagner of Cleveland, OH; step-sons, Lloyd Parcell, George Parcell, and David Parcell, all of Indore; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Darrell attended the Christian Church of Lizemores. Funeral service will be 2 pm Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Thurman Sizemore officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at the funeral home.

April 26 2004 Kevin E. Whitteker, Lancaster, California, age 27, was killed on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, on the I-5 Southbound Interstate in Los Angeles County, California, by a drunk driver in a head on collision. He was a fine example to all of what a good person should be. He made the commitment to serve his country and even in his civilian employment, manned a post on the front lines, by becoming part of the Homeland Security Team, trained to keep our country safe. He was kind, loving and generous to all he knew. He always had a smile on his face and he was dedicated to his family. He joined the Army when he graduated from high school, and he served his country in Germany, Kosovo and Iraq and was currently stationed in California with the Army National Guard. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and the European Commendation Medal.
Kevin married his high school sweetheart and devoted wife, Cathy, and he leaves behindtwo children, Karrissa Charlene, age 3 and Alexis Jaimie, age 1. He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene J. Whitteker; and maternal grandparents. He is survived by his loving father and mother William “Bill” Whitteker and Margaret “Kate” Whitteker of Amma; brothers Michael and wife Tara of Jesup, Georgia; Patrick of Nebraska; Austin and Jason at home and sisters, Catherine, Bridgett and Rachael all at home, grandparents, Loyd and Joyce Whitteker of Olympia, Washington; and Jane Reed of Amma.
Kevin worked hard to make a good life for himself and his family. He mentored young people and loved working on computers. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The service was conducted in Lancaster, California on Saturday, April 17, 2004 and he was laid to rest in a Veteran’s Memorial Wall. His father, a Vietnam Veteran and former Marine, led Kevin’s National Guard Unit as the Honor Guard, at the traditional final salute.
