Dec 5 2003 Clarence Timothy "Amos" Coleman, 24, of Lizemores, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003. He was born on July 5, 1979, at Montgomery to Clarence Coleman and Helen Adkins. He was a timber cutter for RM Logging. He is survived by his parents, Clarence Coleman and Helen Adkins of Lizemores; daughter, Summer Page Coleman of Arlington, OH; brother, Lloyd Coleman of Lizemores, and sister, Kelley Coleman of Lizemores. Funeral service will be 2 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Bob Neal officiating. will follow in the Stone-Coleman Cemetery, Lizemores. Dec 5 2003 Dewey Kermit Morris, 68, of Lizemores, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley. He was born on August 7, 1935, in Clay County to the late Freeman and Frances Morris. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose, and his brothers, Donald and Bobby. He was a retired coal miner from Union Carbide and attended Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his sons, Kevin Morris of Spencer and Jeremy Morris of Lizemores; daughters, Rebecca Metheney of Spencer and Joan Lemley of Sanford, NC; brothers, Darrell Morris of Bentree, Carmen "Mickey" Morris of Lizemores, and Freeman "Buckshot" Morris of Amherst, OH; sisters, Emma Price of South Charleston, Dorothy Cogar of Summersville, Jo Ellen Holt of Ronceverte, WV, Rose Helen Davis of Marmet, Nola Schoolcraft of Crawley, WV, and Elaine Pritt of Fayetteville; 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be ll am on Friday, December 5, 2003, at Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church, Adonijah, with Minister Jadie Morris officiating. will follow in the Elliott Cemetery, Adonijah. Dec 4 2003 Ella Drake, 89, of Duck, died Monday, December 1, 2003, at home. She was born on June 16, 1914, at O'Brion to the late Sherman and Mary McCracken. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd Drake, her daughter, Janis Burkhamer, 5 brothers, and 6 sisters. She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Advent Christian Church of O'Brion. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Duffield of Procious; sister-in-law, Dorothy McCracken; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and l great-great-grandchild. Nov 24 2003 Marvil Dallas Underwood, 85, of Ivydale, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 21, 1918, at Tioga, Nicholas County, to the late Elza and Lily Elizabeth Huggard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ina Gladys Underwood, three brothers, and one sister. He was a self-employed mechanic.
Survivors include his sons, Eddie Underwood of Barberton, OH, and Teddy Underwood of Ivydale; daughters, Joyce Knittel of Huntsville, AL, Jean Martini of Crystal Beach, FL, and Louise Nix of Arab, AL; brother, Robert Underwood of Elyria, OH; sisters, Marie Salisbury of Widen and Bessie Fitzwater of Lodi, OH; grandchildren, Michael Knittel, Jason Martini, Christopher Underwood, David Nix, Jennifer Owens, Amanda Nix, and Sherri Psimer; great-grandchildren, Jacob Owens, Kyle Psimer, and Terra Psimer. Nov 24 2003 Mary M. Thornsbury, 70, of Wallback, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at her residence. She was born on June 4, 1933, at Newton, to the late Delford Peter and Lyda Parsons Thornsbury. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Thornsbury, and her daughter, Sharon Juanita Pringle. She was a homemaker and a member of Rogers Fork Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Charles and Michael Thornsbury, both of Wallback, and Paul D. Thornsbury of Goshen, VA; brothers, Paul and Pete Parsons, Jr., both of Hartland, Lewis Parsons of Pinch and Charles Parsons of Canton, OH; sisters, Garnet Bane of Cowen and Nina Dunn of Stockbridge, MI; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 21, 2003, at Rogers Fork Baptist Church, Wallback, with Minister Herbert Vance officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The body will be cremated.

She was born on November 12, 1900, at Dille, Clay County, to the late Wyant and Martha Morris. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James (J. J.) Holcomb and three sons, Leon, Calvin, and Dana Holcomb. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Bob of Bolivar, OH, Jack of Akron, and Charles of Maysel; two daughters, Lydia Schafstall and Imogene Miller, both of Maysel; half-brothers, Aundral Morris of Summersville, and Obert Morris of Birch River; half-sisters, Faye Pierson of Birch River, and Ona and Opal of Clarksburg; 30 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Saturday, November 22, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Ralph Davis officiating. will follow in the Holcomb Cemetery, Hansford Fork.

He was preceded in death by his Mother- Hanna Susana Wyant. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church, and a retired Timber Cutter, and Lumber Stacker for Evans Lumber Company. Oct 29 2003 Roscoe Sears, 74, of Ivydale, died Monday, October 27, 2003, at CAMC General Division. He was born on January 5, 1929, in Clay County to the late Lloyd and Ada Tanner Sears. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughters, Ellen Rose and Rita Faye; brothers, Alpha, Darrell, Ernest; sisters, Dessie and Glendora. He was a retired production worker for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron, Ohio, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, an accomplished Blue Grass musician, and was affiliated with the Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Aaron Sears - Wesley Chapel, FL. Daughters - Leigh Ann Sears - Middletown, MD, & Tammy Lynn Sears.

Helen Murdock Carper, 70, of Clay, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at home after a short illness. She was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Clay County, a daughter of the late Patrick O'Dell and Elizabeth Runnion O'Dell Mullins. She was a homemaker and a mother. She was a member of the Flat Fork Baptist Church, Looneyville, W.Va., and attended the Clay Community Center. Survivors include sons, Tommy Murdock of Elkview, Roger Carper of Clay, Ricky Carper of Baltimore, Md., Benny Carper of Clover, W.Va., and Johnny Carper of Looneyville; daughters, Carolyn Bowen of Odenton, Md., Sandra Caselle of Syracuse, N.Y., Jackie Kelly of Tariff, W.Va., and Lisa Hickman of Spencer, W.Va.; sisters, Ellen Abbott Cobb of Clay and Marlene Vineyard of Arnoldsburg, W.Va.; brothers, Paul O'Dell of Hagerstown, Md., Eugene O'Dell of Tariff and Junior O'Dell of Walton; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Murdock; her second husband of 43 years, Bobby Benton Carper; great-grandson, Tay Greene; brothers, William and Leon O'Dell. Oct 28 2003 Howard Chafin, 75, of Lizemores, died Friday, October 24, 2003 at Home. He was born January 17, 1928 to the late Jim and Betty Gore Chafin. He was a retired brakeman for the River Terminal Railway, Cleveland, Ohio, and a US Marine Corp Veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Brothers, Teddy & Charles Chafin; Step-Son, John Foster; Step-Daughters, Sherry Richmond & Deborah Foster; Step-Grandson, John Foster. Iva I. English "Ivy", 86, passed away Oct. 18, 2003. Born in Clay Co., W. Va., she lived in the Akron area most of her life and was the owner of the Village Tavern in Lakemore. Preceded in death by her son, Robert Knotts, Iva is survived by her sons, Carlos (Clarice) Cottrell, Charles (Mary) Carte Sr. and Lowell (Marty) Miller; daughters, Earlene (Paul) Stephenson, Opal (Warren) Drake and Wanda (Donald) Tanner; daughter-in- law, Louise Knotts; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Hilda Jean Frame, 75, of Strange Creek, W.Va., passed away Oct. 17, 2003, at Summersville Memorial Hospital, Summersville, W.Va., after a long illness. She was born on Nov. 21,1927, at Birch River, W.Va., the daughter of the late George Martin and Leola Deloris Boggs Dodrill. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, at Strange Creek, where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class for 20 years. Mrs. Frame was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jack Dodrill, and George Dodrill; and sisters, Gladys White, Lee Dodrill, and Louise Rolston. Mrs. Frame is survived by her husband, Bill Frame; sons, Mike and Teddy, both of Strange Creek, J .B. and Billy, both of Birch River, Tony of North Carolina, Wayne of Dille, W.Va., and Brent of LaGrange, Ohio; daughters, Patsy Conrad of Strange Creek, and Marsha Garvin of Gassaway, W.Va.; and brothers, Rayburn Dodrill of Birch River, Buford Dodrill of Dille, Roscoe Dodrill of Geneva, Ohio, Sam Dodrill of Strange Creek and Sterling Dodrill of Elkton, Ky. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
