July 26 2006 Cora Evelyn Woods, 82, of Ripley, formerly of Clay, entered into rest Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley. Born on November 24, 1923, in Clay, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emma May. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Woods; son, Donald Woods, and 8 brothers. She was a retired cashier for Royal Farm Stores, a member of the Homemaker’s Club and the Democratic Club. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Evans of Saverna Park, MD; 4 brothers, 4 sisters, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. There will be no services. July 26 2006 Lonnie Stewart, 58, of Belva , entered into rest Saturday, July 22, 2006. Born on November 11, 1947, in Cabin Creek, WV, he was the son of the late Floyd and Jane Stewart. He retired from Osborne Lumber and was an Army veteran. Lonnie is survived by one brother, Arnold Eugene Stewart of Indore, and one sister, Maxine Stewart of Missouri. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at the Stewart Cemetery, Cove Hollow with Minister Herbert Vance officiating. There will be no visitation. July 23 2006 John Louis Romano, 61, of Charleston passed away Sunday, July 23, 2006 in Hubbard Hospice House. Born July 1, 1945 he was the son of the late Orlando and Virginia Romano. He was also preceded in death by a brother Paul Orlando Romano. John is survived by his loving daughter Anita Virginia Romano of Greensboro, NC, sister Paula Johnson and husband Richard of Clarksburg. and wife Lynn Romano of Maysel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and 2 grandchildren. July 22 2006 Mary Lou Devlin, 74, of Ivydale, died July 20, 2006, at CAMC-Memorial Division. Born on September 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William John and Harriett Dowsett. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Patterson Devlin. She was a nursing instructor at Hurley School of Nursing in Flint, MI for 15 years and University of Charleston for 20 years. She was a member and past president of the Clay Lion’s Club, and was the first woman District Governor in WV. She volunteered many years as a 4-H Camp Nurse for Clay County. She also served many years as the President of the Clay County Board of Health. Survivors include her son, Marc Randall Miller of Clay; daughters, Pamela Lynn Street of Procious, Cynthia Lou Curtis of Procious, Marsha Lee Shirley of Casper, WY; step-daughters, Diana Lane Slodowitz of Cazenovia, NY, and Lucinda Alice Devlin of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Laura Jane and R. T. Sizemore, Jr. and family; grandchildren, Crystal Curtiss, Jacob Shirley, Craig Shirley, Marcy Shirley, Tommy Street, Nick Street, Jesse Street, Ginny Spingarn, and Lilly Alexander; 5 great-grandchildren. He was a coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company, and a Vietnam Army veteran. July 18 2006 Stover, Mrs. Flora June Age 68 of Middletown passed away Saturday morning, July 15, 2006 at her residence. She was born in Clay County, West Virginia June 4, 1938, the youngest daughter of Fitzhugh Lee and Lula (Rose) Tripplett. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Charles Stover; two daughters, Pam Schafer and Tammy Stover; two sons, Doug Nutter and Charles Stover, Jr.; three grandsons, Lindsey Schafer, Steven Brown, and Carl Schafer, Jr.; a sister, Nova Young; and a brother, Kenneth Tripplett. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Esther McGlothlin, Leona Shelton, Della Salisbury, Irene Nelson, and Freda Gerleman; and four brothers, James Triplett, Alfred Carl Triplett, Jennings Triplett, and Clarence Triplett. Born on November 20, 1916, at Lizemores, he was the son of the late Robert and Lula Elliott Sizemore. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Sizemore; daughter, Linda Beth Jarvis; brother, Elmer Sizemore, and sister, Mattie King. He was a retired crane operator from Union Carbide, Alloy, with 44 years of service, a member of the Lizemores United Methodist Church, and an Army veteran of World War II. Born on May 3, 1929, in Clay, he was the son of the late George and Cynthia Ellison. He was also preceded in death by 6 brothers and 6 sisters He was retired from General Motors with 47 years of service, and was a sergeant during the Korea War. Survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Ellison of Dayton OH; a loyal Boston terrier dog (Mitsy), sons Phil, Chris, Eric, Ronnie, and Joe; daughters Vanessa, Judy, and Robin. June 19 2006 Waitman "Bud" Samples, 81, of Bomont, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at his residence. He was born August 23, 1924, at Bomont, the son of the late Okey O. and Bertie Matheny Samples. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Chester; and sisters, Hallie Roberts, Vida Hill, Mabel Samples, and Opal Smith. He retired from the WV Dept. of Highways, where he worked as an assistant supervisor. He had a love for the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He is survived by his wife, Imogene Sizemore Samples; daughter, Karen Samples Sweeney and her husband Tim of Pinch; brothers, Dale, Clark, and Wayne, all of Bomont; sisters, Betty Snyder and Gertie Nichols, both of Clendenin, Maxine Mullins of Elkview, and Dottie Taylor of Indian Head, Md.; grandchildren, C.J., Hunter, and Anne Marie. Nora Carmin Samples The spirit of Carmin returned to God who loaned her to us for 77 years, 3 months, and 2 days. Carmin was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a wonderful friend to everyone she met. Always smiling, she especially loved her extended family. Leaving behind to cherish her memory are husband of 58 years, Donald; daughter, Vivian Maynor of Elkview; grandson, Abe Jones (whom she raised as a son) of Procious; granddaughter, Jill Grandchamp of Wilmington, N.C., and Jodi Grimm of Pinch; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Justin Jones, Dylan Grandchamp, and Luke, Tyler, Emily, and Bryce Grimm; brothers, Dexter Dudley and Deward (Daniel) Dawson of Procious, and Dane Dawson of Shreve, Ohio; and sisters, Claudia O'Dell and Chessie McCune of Massilon, Ohio. Carmin loved to travel; during her life she visited 47 states and 11 foreign countries. Her culinary skills are known far and wide, every Sunday was feast day for family and anyone else who dropped by. The family wishes to thank Dr. George Zaldivar and Dr. Sarah Nease for the bonus years they helped to provide for her during her extended illness. Her body was cremated.
