June 9 2006 Ruth Legg, 93, of Duck, entered into rest June 8, 2006, at her home on Paddy Ridge Road. Born on February 8, 1913, in Normantown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Tina Pritt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Glen Legg; son, Okey D. Legg, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her son, Wilson H. Legg of Duck, 2 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be 11 am Monday, June 12, 2006, at the Legg Cemetery, Duck, with Minister John Osborne officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

June 8 2006 Homer E. Falls, 80, of Procious, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. He retired from Dominion Oil. He was a man of many skills and talents. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Falls; daughters, Carol Grose, Patty James, and Debora Saulsgiver; granddaughter, Heather Grose; grandsons, Chris James, Jeremy James, and Nathan Saulsgiver; and great-grandchildren, Anna and Bradley Williams. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Davis officiating. will be in the Harper Family Cemetery, Barren Creek Rd. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, at the funeral home.

June 8 2006 Della Marie Rider, 90, of Lizemores, entered into rest Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Montgomery General Hospital.
Born on July 12, 1915, at Lizemores, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Sarah Walker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Stonewall Rider. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Golden Age Club. Survivors include her sons, Stephen Rider of Cowen and Kenneth Rider of Lizemores; daughters, Bonnie Phillips of Greenwood, IN, Barbara Stone of Lizemores, and Wanda Sue Legg of Clay; sisters, Blanche Harvey of Jodie; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, June 9, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Jadie Morris officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

June 3 2006 Wilma Marie Duffield Beasley, a long time resident of Maysel, passed away at the home of Joe and Donna Nicholas at Sizemore Trailer Park, Maysel, at 11:57 pm on June 2, 2006. Born on January 28, 1920, in Clay County, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Cledith; sons, Dallas and Eugene; grandson, Jeffrey, and son-in-law, Earl Reed. She was a retired cook on the riverboats, and of the Pentecostal faith. She is survived by her daughter, Juanita Reed of Maysel; daughter, Connie Reid (John) of Dumfries, VA; sons, Tom (close friend - Pat Clark), Lloyd, and Ronnie (Donna) all of Clay; grandsons, Jimmy (Sommer) of Coxs Mills, WV, Jason (Cathy) of Middleboro, MA, (currently in active military duty in Iraq), Tommy (Dawn) of Cumberland, OH, Jeremy of Charleston, Ryan of Clay, Eric and Brandon Carte of Clay, and Brian Lee Scott (active military duty in Germany); granddaughters, Jen of Massachusetts and Amy of Clay; great-granddaughters, Autumn of Coxs Mill, Jessica of Clay, Dallas Lee, Dakota, Liberty and Patience of Massachusetts, Kara, Karissa and Jesse of Massachusetts; great-grandson, Josh of Clay. Funeral service will be 2 pm Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Gary Butcher officiating. will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm on Monday at the funeral home.

June 3 2006 Albert Pritt. 77, of Clay entered into rest June 2, 2006, at home. Born on September 11, 1928, in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Floyd and Alice Minerva Pritt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Isabella Deloris Pritt, and his brothers and sisters. He was a US Army Veteran and a retired saw mill operator from Pierson Lumber Company. Survivors include his son, David and his companion, Debbie DeMoss of Clay; son, Brian Pritt of Clay; daughters, Terri Pritt, Cynthia Keen, Sherri Carte, Kelly Gray, and Alice Pritt, all of Clay, Marcella Elswick of Summersville, Charlotte Hall of Bomont, and Melanie Groves of Spencer; 14 grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Ralph Davis and Minister Teddy Legg officiating. The body will be cremated. A private burial will be held at a later date. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

June 2 2006 Donald R. “Firpo” Jones of Clay passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 31, 2006, after a long illness. He was 87 years old. Donald was a member of Lick Fork Free Will Baptist Church and the Local VFW Post 4419. Before retirement, Donald was active in the Clay County Parks and Recreation and the Clay County Garden Delicious Apple Festival. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in England and France. He was retired from Cedar Coal Company. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Newman and Virgie Jones; a brother, Casey Jones; and a grandson, James Donald Gency. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Thelma Ramsey Jones; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Joe and Bertha Jones of Red House, and Gary James and Elizabeth Jones of Hurricane; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Pat Hoffman of Summersville, and Sharon and John Gency of Elkview; brothers, Ernest Jones of Gassaway, and Buren Jones of Charleston; sisters, Delcie Long of Gassaway, and Gloria Baldwin of Charleston; grandchildren, Jeffrey and David Hoffman, Gregory Gency, Pamela Tucker, Robert Jones, Amy Hodges, Andrea Parkins, and Jason Jones; and great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Gency, Mason, Jake, and Zsiah Tucker, Clair and Deirdre Hoffman, Benjamin Hodges, and Willa Parkins. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with the Rev. Tommy Price officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, with military rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at the funeral home.

May 30 2006 Darrell Lee Shamblin Sr., 45, of Procious died at home after a sudden illness. He was born May 19, 1961, at Clay, worked as a rig hand and was an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Ona Marie Samples Shamblin; sons, Darrell Lee Shamblin Jr. and Jeremy Wayne Shamblin, both of Procious; parents, Junior L. and Mary Carolyn Dobbins Shamblin of Procious; brothers, Herschel, Rocky and Michael Shamblin, all of Procious, and John Shamblin of McDavid, Fla. The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Walls Cemetery, Procious, with Pastor Perry Haag officiating. The Clay VFW Post will be performing military graveside rites. Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Darrell Lee Shamblin Sr. fund at Chase Bank, Clendenin.

May 29 2006 James Daris “Jim” Neff, 63 , of Lizemores entered into rest Sunday, May 28, 2006. Born in Clay, he was the son of the late Acie and Etta (Hamrick) Neff. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters Debbie Lynn and Tina Marie Neff. He was owner of Lizemore Grocery. James is survived by his wife, Nancy Mullins Neff, daughters Michelle (Micki) Robinson, Tammi Moore both of Bentree, WV. 4 grandchildren, Jared, Shayne, Jayla, and Shaylee, 3 brothers and 6 Sisters. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Carl Wilson Funeral home, Clay, with Minister Larry Skaggs officiating. will follow in the Ramsey Cemetery, Enoch, WV. Friends may call from 6 to 8 Wednesday at the funeral home

May 29 2006 Mary Mahala Igo Triplett, 106, of Clay entered into rest Sunday, May 28, 2006 at home.
Born on September 7,1899, in Roane County, WV she was the oldest daughter of the late Jake and Naomi Legg Igo. She was a charter member of Buffalo Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Banes, her daughter Mary Helen Nutter, sons Clifford, Carl Hedgeman “Budge”, Arch, and Walter, 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson. She is survived by her daughters Maysel Davis of Franklin, IN, Mabel Bragg of Piqua OH., and Mamie Williams of Madison, WV, her sons Bobbie Damon of Fairview, WV, Jake of Akron, OH, and Earl Glen “Bill” , Arnold Jerry, and Banes Franklin of Clay, her caregiver Molly Hypes, 29 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 27 great great grandchildren, 1 great great great grandson, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister John Pruitt officiating. will follow in the Triplett Cemetery, Triplett Ridge. Friends may call from 6 to 9 Tuesday at the funeral home.

May 28 2006 Betty Virginia Laxton Duncan, 75, of Looneyville, entered into rest May 26, 2006, at her residence.
Born on May 15, 1931, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late McKinley and Cora Laxton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, William Kenny Duncan, Jr., and 5 brothers and sisters. She was retired from Grace Hospital in Cleveland, OH, as a central supply technician. She was a born again Christian, and attended the Wings of Deliverance Church, Maysel. Survivors include her son, Joe Wayne Duncan of Cleveland, OH; daughters, Karen R. Mosley of Looneyville and Marjorie C. Duncan Roberts of Rome, GA; 4 brothers and sisters, 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be 11 am Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Dundon Cemetery, Clay, with Minister Jerry Hanshaw officiating. There will be no visitation. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

May 24 2006 Lola Eloise Rhodes, 97, of Clay, entered into rest May 23, 2006, at home. Born on November 21, 1908, in Crestmont, WV, she was the daughter of the late Norman Wyatt and Hettie Mariah Loving. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Branty Rhodes; brothers, Arnold, Sam and Howard, and sister, Chessie Paxton. She was the former postmaster at Enoch from Nov. 3, 1939, to May 29, 1971, and a former store owner of the Little Country Grocery. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Branty and Shirley Rhodes, Jr. of Clay; daughters and sons-in-law, Ione and Quentin Wilson of Peach Orchard Rd., Clay, Lutheria and Burl Nelson of Valley City, OH, and Verneda and Jerry Nelson of Clay; brother, Charles ?Gene? Loving of Charleston; sisters, Radie Nicholas of Winfield, Beulah Foster of Clay, and Mary Triplett of Lodi, OH; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 8 great -great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, May 27, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister John Pruett officiating. will follow in the Rhodes Cemetery, Dog Run. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

May 21 2006 Larry Dean McLaughlin, 60, of Ivydale, WV, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006, at CAMC from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born December 4, 1945, in Gassaway, WV, to the late Gory and Effie McLaughlin of Ivydale. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Allen McLaughlin. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his farm and his hobbies. He was retired from WCI Steel in Youngstown, OH. He was a Vietnam Veteran and an active member of Clay VFW Post 4419 where he served as Senior Vice Commander. He was on the Board of Directors of the N. H. Dyer Health Department. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joyce Sawyers McLaughlin; son, Larry McLaughlin, Jr and wife , Jessica, of Sharon, PA; daughter, Twila Jo Micchia and husband, Tom, of Wake Forest, NC. He leaves behind his pride and joy, his granddaughters, Ava Raine McLaughlin and Avery Lynne Micchia. He is also survived by his brother, Gory Gene McLaughlin and wife, Joni, of Charleston, WV; sister, Fran King of Ivydale, WV; nieces, Christina King of Ivydale and Genalee Moore of Charleston; and his close friends at VFW Post 4419. Funeral service will be 2 pm Monday, May 22, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Larry requested that donations be made to the Clay VFW Post 4419, c/o Paul Parsons, 44 Sycamore Street, Clay, WV 25043 to help construct the new veterans memorial in Clay.

May 20 2006 Mamie L. Lyons, 75, of Canton, OH, formerly of Blue Knob, WV, entered into rest May 18, 2006, at home after an extended illness. Born on December 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Mart and Nora Lyons of Dink, WV. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her former husband, Albert Koch; four brothers, Dolph, Therl, Edward, and Clarence, and one sister, Girtie Murphy. Survivors include one son, Edward Allen Koch of Carrollton, OH, and one daughter, Pauline Janet Koch of Canton, OH; two brothers, Ronald Lyons of Clay, and Thomas Lyons of Ivydale; one sister, Maxine Drake of Ivydale; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2006, at McLaughlin Cemetery, Rush Fork

May 17 2006 Ronzel Fitzwater 73, son of the late Elisha Hugh and Rosie Bell Fitzwater, died this morning,15 May 2006, at 1 AM in a Melbourne, Florida hospital. He is survived by his wife Carol, sons Timmy, Billy and Ronnie Fitzwater all of Melbourne. Sisters Orla Bass and Olive Christy of Melbourne and Ida Faye James of Wooster, Ohio, Brothers Roy of Melbourne, Hugh of Portsmouth, Virginia, Elton of Dalton, Ohio and Donald of Anacoco, Louisiana. There will be immediate family services in Florida. The body will be cremated and the ashes buried near his parents in the Starcher cemetery on Otter Creek. All of the Fitzwater Family are former residents of Clay County mainly of Valleyfork and Otter

May 16 2006 Gene Devaughan Perkins, 71, of Clay, died May 15, 2006. Born or January 1, 1935, in Kanawha County, he was the son of the late Rayburn and Ruth Perkins. He was retired from Putnam Aging. Survivors include his brother, Dana Perkins of Clay; sisters, Paula Jo Seabolt of Nitro, and Arawana Moore of Summersville. A memorial service will be 2 pm Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Fairview Baptist Temple, Clay, with Minister John Day officiating. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of the arrangements.

May 11 2006 Larry Stephen Ramsey, 41, of Clay, died May 9, 2006. Born on September 25, 1964, in Charleston, he was the son of David Ramsey of Clay, and the late Lona Bell Ramsey. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Danny Joe Ramsey and his sister, Linda June Ramsey. He was a laborer for Slurry Pavers. In addition to his father, he is also survived by his brothers, David Ramsey, Jr. and Adam Scott Ramsey, both of Clay, and Ricky Lee Ramsey of Elkview; and sister, Cathy Leach of Charleston. A memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Peoples Community Church, Groves Creek, with Minister Freddie Schoolcraft officiating. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.
