Willie Oat Deal, 64, of Swiss, died Dec. 12, 2005 at VA Medical Center, Beckley, following a short illness.
Born July 22, 1941, in Swiss, he was the son of the late William Haze and Tina Ruth Foster Deal.
Mr. Deal was a self-employed automobile mechanic and an Army veteran.
Surviving: his daughters, Trisa and Kim, both of Alabama, and Cheryl of Indiana; son, Willie Oat Deal Jr. of Alabama; sisters, Nancy Faulk of Cleveland, Ohio, and Rosie Hall of Summersville; brothers, Glen Deal of Rainelle, and John Deal of Summersville; and several grandchildren.

Prudence Hall Lake
Prudence Hall Lake, 86, of Pratt, died Dec. 31, 2005, in Montgomery General Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1919, the daughter of the late Harvey and Edith Tucker Hall, Prudence grew up in Cannelton.
After completing high school, she worked in Montgomery where she met H.E. “Pete” Lake, whom she married in 1945 and with whom she moved to Handley. In 1949, their only child, Sharon, was born and, in 1961, the family moved to Pratt.
Prudence worked at Montgomery General Hospital for 44 years, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong Christian and involved in many church activities and volunteer work. She was a talented singer and loved music and the arts.
She attended West Virginia Institute of Technology, majoring in music, and was active in many music performances there and throughout the Upper Kanawha Valley.
Family and friends remember Prudence’s kind demeanor and ready smile as well as her devotion to service and giving. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister, Helen Hall Kemper.
Surviving: her daughter, Sharon of Barboursville; beloved friend, Martha J. Persinger of Barboursville; a sister, Bonnie Hall Peebles of Bellbrook, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Darrell and Peggy Duncan of Ravenswood, John and Jean Lake of Fairfield, Ohio, Kenneth and Alberta Lake of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Okey and Louise Russell of Handley and Jean Stevens of Sweetser, Ind.; 14 nieces and nephews; special friends, David Costelli, Betty Hill, and Anna Mae McCallister; and her extended family, the residents and staff of the Extended Care Unit of Montgomery General Hospital.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 4 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, from 12 to 1 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

Alline Payne Levisay, 88, died Dec. 21, 2005, after a long illness.
Born Aug. 10, 1917, in Page, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mattie Fridley Payne. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Levisay.
Surviving: sons and their wives, Don and Shirley of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Vernon and Deanann of Minnesota; grandsons, Cletis and Nathanael, both of Minnesota; and sister, Pauline Boggs of Hugheston.
Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Glenna Jane Smith Clements Maynard, 82, of Handley, died Dec. 31, 2005, in Montgomery General Hospital Extended Care Unit surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 6, 1923, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Ruth and Lillian Grace Moran Smith.
Mrs. Maynard was a very loving and caring lady who loved the Lord and everyone and she had a forgiving spirit. She was a member of the Apostolic Light House at Mt. Carbon and was a former employee of the Handley YMCA.
Surviving: her children, Cathy Enicks and her husband, C.B., of East Bank, Connie Baldwin and her husband, James R., of Handley, and James Clements of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandchildren, Carie Hamm and her husband, Gary, of Handley, Jessie Baldwin of Handley, Daniel Enicks of East Bank and Jacob Enicks of East Bank; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Garrett Hamm, both of East Bank.
The service was Jan. 3 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. James R. Baldwin and Pastor John Hurley officiating. followed in the Montgomery Memorial Park at London.

Melissa Cara Toney Settle, 40, of Rt. 2, Fayetteville, died Dec. 31, 2005, on Rt. 61, following an auto accident.
Born Dec. 7, 1965, at Oak Hill, Melissa was the daughter of Alfred F. Toney of Oak Hill, and the late Joann Foster Toney.
Melissa was a homemaker, and a member of the Page Baptist Church at Page.

Toney of Oak Hill; and her grandmother, Nine Lee Settle Foster of Rt. 2, Fayetteville.

David Sheely
Minister David L. “Slammer” Sheely, 49, of Montgomery, died Dec. 26, 2005, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 10, 1956, in Montgomery, he was the son of Florence Sheely and the late James Sheely Sr.
Mr. Sheely graduated from East Bank High School, was a faithful member of My Father’s House Church in Rand, a former employee with PMOC at the E.I. DuPont Belle Plant and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving: his mother, Florence Sheely of Montgomery; daughter, Jesseca “Princess” Sheely of Montgomery; brothers, James Sheely Jr. of London, Minister Zachary Sheely of Flint, Mich., Pastor Bernard Sheely and his wife, Annette, of Rand, and Benjamine Sheely and Patrick Sheely, both of Montgomery; sisters, Dora Dolton and her husband, Al, and Sandra Pates and her husband, Bernard, both of Rand, and Marsha Hopkins of Teays Valley; and aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
A celebration of David’s life was held Dec. 30 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Pastor Bernard Sheely and Minister Zachary Sheely officiating. followed in Meadow Heaven Memorial Park at Inghram Branch.

James William ‘Bill’ Youell
James William “Bill” Youell, 91, of Boomer, died Dec. 27, 2005, at Montgomery General Hospital.
Born March 7, 1914, in Harewood, he was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Sally Elizabeth Stockton Youell.
Mr. Youell was a 65-year member and past master of Coal Valley Lodge # 74 AF & AM in Montgomery. An active Mason of the York Rite, he was a past high priest of Montgomery Chapter #47, Royal Arch Masons, and a 60-year member of Kanawha Commandery #4, Knights Templar. He recently received the prestigious York Gold Honor Award from the York Rite College of North America, symbolic of his dedication to York Rite Masonry and to Free Masonry in general.
He was also a member of West Virginia Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine and of St. Lawrence the Martyr Council #21, Allied Masonic Degrees, in Parkersburg.
Bill was retired from Union Carbide at Alloy and had served his country during World War II as a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps.
Surviving: his wife, Winsome Adam Youell; children, Elizabeth Martin of Boomer, Jane Goldberg of Philadelphia and Liza Youell of Charleston; grandsons, Peter Stockton Martin and James Adam Martin; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Dec. 30 at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, with Masonic graveside rites performed by Coal Valley Lodge #74 AF & AM of Montgomery.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Masonic Home, Box 869, Parkersburg, WV 26101.

Larry Wayne Hill, 48, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 14, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1957, in Charleston, he was the son of Charles Hill of Mossy and the late Donna McCormick Hill. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Edward Hill Jr. and Gregory Allen Hill.
Larry was a disabled timber cutter for the Pack Lumber Company.
Surviving: his friend, Carla Ervin, and her children, Cassie and C.J. Sweeney of Oak Hill; a sister, Anna Marie Tinnel of Summersville; brothers, Gary Dean Hill of Cabin Creek, David Lee Hill of Dixie, Steven Ray Hill of East Bank, James Lyne Hill of Mossy, and David Lee Hill Jr. of Crab Orchard; and several nieces and nephews.
Committal service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Denver Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the mausoleum.

Wilson Harlow Huddleston
Wilson Harlow Huddleston, 92, of Williamsburg, Va., formerly of Falls View and Tampa, Fla., died Jan. 4, 2006.
Mr. Huddleston was a retired carpenter who worked on the construction of buildings for NASA and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Williamsburg.
Surviving: his wife of 68 years, Drema Lanham Huddleston; daughter, Shirley A. (Clay) Harrison; grandchildren, Melanie Ware (Michael) and Mark Harrison (Natalie); and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Lilly.
A funeral service was held Jan. 5 at the Williamsburg Memorial Park.
Paul Fremont Hughes
Paul Fremont Hughes, 79, of Falls View, died Jan. 10, 2006, at his home following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 30, 1926, at Dunbar, he was the son of the late Heber Jennings and Pearl Pierson Hughes. He also was preceded in death by a son, Roger Lee Hughes; a sister, Willie Nutter; a brother, Bobby Ray Hughes; and granddaughters, Courtney and Ashley Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was a retired foreman from Elkem Metals Co. at Alloy with 41 years of service. He was a member of Boomer Baptist Church; a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater; a member of Gauley Bridge VFW Post No. 8366; a member of the Boomer Lions Club; and a dispatcher at the former Valley Ambulance Service in Alloy.
Surviving: his wife, Betty Jean Hartley Hughes; a daughter, Tammy Brown and husband, Adam, of Belva; sons, John Wayne Hughes and wife, Carolyn, of Mount Nebo, and Larry Hughes of Hico; sisters, Dixie Johnson of Liberty, Edith Gray of Anderson, S.C., Theora Strohacker of Spartanburg, S.C., and Annabelle Kiser of Richwood; brother, Heber Jennings Hughes Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; and grandchildren, Paul Michael Hughes, Megan Hughes, Austin Brown, Bronson Brown, Jordan Hughes, Dustin Hughes and Collin Brown.
Service was Jan. 13 at Boomer Baptist Church with Pastor Michael A. Brendel Sr. officiating. followed in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor. Military graveside rites were conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.

Janet ‘Momma’ Jarroll
Janet “Momma” Jarroll, 88, of Zela, died Jan. 10, 2006, in the Summersville Extended Care Center.
Born Aug. 3, 1917,at Logan, she was the daughter of the late David Ferzacca and Frances Ginestra Alba. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Jarroll, in 2004.
Mrs. Jarroll was the owner and operator of The Country Road Inn at Zela and a member of St. Martin’s In The Field Episcopal Church, Summersville.
Surviving: sons, Dr. Edward Lee Jarroll Jr. of Boston, Mass., and David Jarroll and wife, Lauren, and George A. Jarroll, all of Summersville; daughter, Catherine Price and husband, Larry, of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Gladys Dress and husband, John, of Logan; grandsons, Brett Price and Christopher Jarroll; and two nieces and two nephews.
Graveside service was Jan. 13 at Walker Memorial Park, Summersville, with Father Roy Crist and Father Walter Mycoff officiating. Memorial service followed at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Summersville.

Paul Edward Meadows
Paul Edward Meadows died Jan. 11, 2006.
Born Feb. 1, 1934, he was the son of the late Isaac Andrew and Mona Lovejoy Meadows. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Isaac Meadows Jr. and Garld Eugene Meadows; sister-in-law, Betty Meadows; daughter, Brenda Meadows Rucker; and nephew, Harold Meadows.
Mr. Meadows worked for the C&O Railroad for 38 years at Handley and also held various part-time jobs, including his own business, Pemco Sales. Paul’s main focus was on his family. He was a loving husband and father who dedicated his life to his family.
His hobbies included genealogical research and flying his small private aircraft. He was a hard-working and upstanding moral citizen who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving: his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Frances Baker Meadows; daughters, Dee Dee Adkins and her husband, Jeff, of North Carolina, Lisa Mullins and her husband, Mark, of Kentucky, and Linda Wendland of Texas; grandchildren, Nathan Holmes and his wife, Virginia, Timmy Holmes and Olivia, Andrew Holmes, Susan Jackson and her husband, Billy, Hannah Mullins and Seth Mullins; four great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Meadows and his wife, Jo Ann, of Florida; nephews, Jack Meadows and his wife, Debbie, and Dennis Meadows, all of Florida; and many other loving family members and friends.
