Mr. Joseph Edward “Joe” King, 42 of Nitro went home to be with the Lord November 18, 2005.
Joe was a caring, compassionate, loving and devoted husband and father. Joe was a gentleman that would help anyone with anything. He loved to hunt and fish and spending time with his family.
He was an employee of PSI.
Joe is survived by his best friend and wife of 21 years Mrs. Judy King; daughter Jessica of Teays Valley; son Justin of Nitro; Mother and Father Connie and Jim Clark of Marmet; father Joe “Buster” King of Nitro; sisters Cathy King and Melinda Yeager both of Cabin Creek; brothers Matt Clark of North Carolina and Mark Clark of Marmet; mother-in-law Ruth Thompson of Poca; niece Amanda Stanley of Cabin Creek and dearest friends Teke and Glenna Shaffer of Charleston. Joe is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

John 11: 25-26, “He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”
Bradford Anvel Cobb, 84, passed out of this life on Tuesday, December 6, with his children at his side. A life-long resident of Putnam County, he defined his life by Deuteronomy 15:11, “…you shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy…” Known for his work ethic and acts of Christian charity, he was a skilled craftsman and builder. He and his wife Marjorie never hesitated to assist those in need.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, his parents Brady and Cordelia , brothers Otis and Denzil, sister Arlie Shaw, and daughter Rebecca Ann. He is survived by daughter Connie Raynes and son-in-law Rudy Raynes of Buffalo, son Ronnie Cobb and friend Kelly Kidd of Poca, and daughter Kathy Buckley and son-in-law Dana Buckley of Hurricane. Five surviving grandchildren are Quentin and Christian Buckley of Hurricane, Rudi Anne Raynes of Buffalo, Kelley Rogers and husband John Rogers of Scott Depot, and Kristina Raynes of Akron, Ohio. Two surviving great-grandchildren are Karley and Kolbe Rogers of Scott Depot. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Coon, of Nitro, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Special supporters in his last year were niece Carol Pottorff, nephew Braxton Cobb and Marilyn Raynes.
Bradford retired from American Viscose and West Virginia State University. Besides membership in Raymond City Community Church, he attended many area churches. A veteran of the US Army, he served as medic in the Philippines. He was a devoted husband, loving parent and grandparent, who was greatly loved by his friends and family.
Isaiah 40:31, “…Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles; They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

Doris Elaine Spaulding Martin, 80 of Poca died Saturday December 17, 2005 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elvin “Alkie” Martin, parents Lester and Ruby Spaulding and brothers William Gatewood and Douglas Clayton Spaulding.
She is survived by her two daughters Cathy Lynn and husband Oatis Braxton Cobb of Buffalo and Cindy Lee and husband Bryan Gates of Poca, sister Jo Ann Mendenhall and husband Charles of Poca, grandchildren Katrina Harmon and husband Joe of Hurricane, Nathan Cobb and wife Kimberly of Hurricane, Angela Gates and fiance’ Sonny Griffith of Poca and Michael Gates of Poca, great grandchild Tyler Matthew Cobb and step-grandchildren Haley and Kelsey Cornell and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a loving wife and mother who received her joy from her family and friends.

David Bruce Purdy, 71, departed this life on December 31, 2005, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, WV, after a short illness.
Born June 9, 1934, in Putnam County, WV, David was the son of the late James Bruce Purdy and Audry Edwards Purdy. David was a 1951 graduate of Poca High School and graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1955. He received his Master’s of Education from Marshall University. He was a teacher, principal and education administrator who retired in 1989 as a Title 1 Director in the WV State Department of Education. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Reserves.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Stephens Purdy and four children: David Bruce Purdy, Jr. and wife Pam from Roanoke, Virginia; Pamella Purdy, sons Zan and Samuel from Moneta, VA; Mark Purdy, wife Donna and sons Adam, Zachary and Matthew from Cross Lanes, WV; Brett Purdy, wife Renee and son Jackson from Charlotte, NC.
He is also survived by brother Morris and Rosalie Purdy from Poca, WV; sister Phyllis and Dr. Richard McCrea from Houston, TX; brother Verl and Joyce Purdy from Charlotte, NC; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, many loving relatives and friends. His family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the doctors, staff and nurses at Charleston Area Medical Center.
David enjoyed farming, making sorghum syrup, apple butter, gardening, wood-working and family gatherings. Activities he was involved in were PTA President at Point Harmony Elementary School, Boy Scouts and Lion Club Leader, Little League baseball, Political Republican Activist, outstanding service in the Jaycees Club, National Federal Education Programs Leader Award, U.S. Army Marksmanship Award, National Sweet Sorghum Producers and Processors Association, placed second in national competition for quality of sorghum syrup and was on the Board of Directors for NSPPAA.

Brenda J. Ball, 63 of St. Albans passed away January 10, 2006 in CAMC Memorial Division.
Mrs. Ball is survived by her children Franklin Ball of St. Albans; Louise “Angel” Ball and partner Jessie Thompson of St. Albans; granddaughter Alecia Ball; sister Debra Donald of St. Albans; brother Eddie and wife Wanda Donald of Hurricane; nephew Keith Meadows of Hurricane and niece Lahoma Donald of Hurricane. She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins from Virginia.

Mrs. Zella Delilah Asbury, 98 of Nitro went home to be with the Lord January 12, 2006 at home.
Mrs. Asbury is a native of Clendenin; retired cook from Monsanto Sportsman Club and a lifelong faithful charter member of Rock Branch Independent Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert William Asbury; children Sterling Delee Asbury and Brenda Eloise Asbury.
She is survived by her children Ronald and wife Mabel of Nitro; Melvin “Bill” Asbury of Nitro; Homer and wife Ada “Bunny” Asbury of Hampton, VA; Everett “Bert” and wife Lola Bea Asbury of Rock Branch; Verna and husband Cary Perdue of Elkhart, IN; Delmar Asbury of Nitro and Mary Lou and husband Arnold Shamblin of Cross Lanes; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Darrell Duane “Goober” Gibson, Sr. 69 of Poca died January 17, 2006 at home after a 24 year illness. He was born December 4, 1936 to the late John Earl and Dessie Parkins Gibson.
He was employed by American Viscose and Kaiser Aluminum as a mechanic and he was an avid Poca Dot Fan.
He was also preceded in death by father and mother-in-law Andrew and Rachel “Nanny” Bailey; brothers Delbert, Clive, Ray and Maxi; granddaughter Amanda Michele Gibson and son-in-law Charles “Skeebo” Hill.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 49 years Phyllis Gibson; children Darrell, Jr.; Richard “Thurm” and wife Barbara; Mike and wife Pam; Tim and wife Kim; Debbie Hill and John and wife Regina; brother Rev. Buel Gibson; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Michael is a 1998 graduate of Poca High School; employed through the Carpenters Local # 1207 at the Marmet Locks; former employee of Davey Tree Service and an avid sportsman.
He is survived by his daughter Ashleigh McGhee; parents Mike and Kathy McGhee of Poca; grandmother Mildred McGhee of Poca; sisters Michelle and husband Todd Carlton of Crawfordville, FL and Katy McGhee of Poca.

Maxine L. Workman 86 of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord February 6, 2006.
Mrs. Workman is retired from Ben Franklin in Nitro and a member of Rock Branch Independent Church.
Mrs. Workman is the daughter of the late Herbert C. Landers and Alda Bailey Landers. She is also preceded in death by her husband Brady Workman; brothers Infant Chad, Rex, Eugene, Check and Glen Landers; sisters Infant Margaret, Louise Landers Ferrell and Ruby Landers Gibson.
She is survived by her children Doris Allison Null and husband Kermit of Hurricane; Malvin M. Allison and wife Ellen of West Covina, CA and James E. Allison and wife Lelit of Kissimmee, FL; sister Mary E. Mathes of Nitro; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
