Martin Burdette “Jimmy” Craigo, 84 of Poca went home to be with the Lord February 6, 2006 at home.
He was born September 27, 1921 to the late Rev. Simon A. Craigo and Vonnie Blake Craigo. After teaching for 29 years he retired from the Virginia Board of Education. Although retired, he continued to work hard as a cabinet maker for American Woodmark.
Loving God, Family and his Country, he faithfully served them all proudly. He attended Bancroft Church of God Mission. He served as a boatswains mate 1st class in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1949, he was presented with several commendations and honors, Pacific Campaign, European African, Middle Eastern and American.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Marcella Sanson Craigo of 8 years; three children Anthony B. Craigo of Frisco, NC; Teresa C. Humphreys of Glen Rose, TX; M. Thomas Craigo and Lucy Adams, wife of Manasses, VA; four loving step-daughters Brenda J. Wolfe of Cross Lanes, Mary F. Hacker, Patricia A. Gibson, Sandra M. Reedy and husband Jerry all of Poca; sister Laura Nelson of Knoxville, TN; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Friday at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Pastor Earl Cochran, Rev. Ralph Workman and Frank Allen, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House with military honors by the Bennie Padilla Post # 4768 in Alum Creek. Naomi Dunlap, 80 of Red House went home to be with the Lord February 27, 2006 at home.
Mrs. Dunlap is a former employee of Fletcher Enamel and West Virginia State College. She is a member of North Charleston Apostolic Church.
She is survived by her husband Dewell B. Dunlap; five children Robert and Brenda Dunlap of Red House, Wilma and Gary Smith of Summerco, Brenda and David Good of Poca, Thomas and Marie Dunlap of Portsmouth, VA, and Douglas Dunlap; six brothers James Comer of Sandyville, Ben Comer of Rocky Fork, Jackie Comer of Jackson Co., Frank Comer of Sissonville, Robert Comer of Charleston and Eugene Comer of Sissonville; four sisters Myrle Skeens of Columbus, OH, Mary Brown of Alliance, OH, Lou Rice of Winfield and Virgie Dawson of Poca; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Macel Betty White, 92 of Poca went home to be with the Lord March 1, 2006 in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. White is a former employee of Fletcher Enamel. She also worked in area hospitals as an LPN and as a cook at Union Carbide. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Nitro and the Hometown Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Holston of Poca; sister Belva Limpf of Scott Depot; five grandchildren Rick Holston of Culloden, Karen Shelton of Poca, Jim Holston of Buffalo, Scott Holston of Bancroft, and Brenda Campbell of Winfield; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Virginia Critchfield Carney, 92 passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was born December 29, 1913 in Clio, WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Eugene F. Carney; her parents Henry Walter and Virginia Lea Lewis Critchfield; twin sister Belva Critchfield; brothers Nelson, Dennis, Virgie, Rector and Chester Critchfield.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joan and Bill Morton of Buffalo; three grandchildren Shelly Rowling and her husband Patrick of Parkersburg; Adam Morton and his wife Stacey of Eleanor; Brian Morton and his wife Kara of Cross Lanes; six great grandchildren Megan Morton, Kaylyn Morton, Joshua Rowlings, Aaron Rowlings, Seth Morton and Tessleigh Morton; sister-in-law Ruth Critchfield of Owensboro, KY; niece Sue Cline of Ravenswood; nephews Ed Critchfield of Jackson, TN; Don Critchfield of Owensboro, KY; and Ted and Tom Critchfield of Lexington, KY.
Touching many lives Mrs. Carney taught 30 years in the public schools of Jackson and Kanawha Counties and also served as an art consultant for Kanawha County School before joining the staff of Morris Harvey College as an Assistant Professor of Art. She graduated from Gilmer High School in 1939 and received her bachelors of arts from Morris Harvey College, and her Master of Arts from Marshall University.
She was a member and former organist of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Nitro; attended Shiloah Independent Church, Red House and was a charter member of the Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

Mrs. Kelley is a former Operating Room Tech for CAMC Memorial Division and attended Cross Lanes Bible Church.

Mrs. Hein attended and was a Sunday School Teacher at Lett Creek Community Church.

Mr. Paul Anthony Pritt, Sr. 65, of Sissonville passed away June 3, 2006 in CAMC Memorial Division.
Mr. Pritt is survived by his loving wife Mrs. Connie Pritt; son Paul A. Pritt, Jr. and wife Anita of Sissonville; sisters Ava Carney of Poca; Estelle Brown of Hurricane; Wilma Asbury of Wilkesboro, PA; and Beatrice Harper of Evans; brother Gary Pritt of Beckley and the love of his life, his granddaughter, Ashley Nichole Pritt.
There will be no services. Mr. Pritt will be cremated.
Mrs. Jane Gatens Vaughan, 70 of Red House went home to be with the Lord June 14, 2006 at home.
Jane is a graduate of Poca High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Jane is retired vice-president of Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens and employee of Gatens-Harding Funeral Home. Jane previously served on the Board of Trustees at Putnam General Hospital and the Parish Council at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She is a member of the Rebecca Rose Lodge in Poca and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bancroft. In 2005 Jane was the recipient of the Heart of Teal Award for her courageous leadership.
She is preceded in death by her father Joseph Michael Gatens, Sr., son Thomas Lee Vaughan, Jr. and brother Joseph Michael Gatens, Jr.
She is survived by her mother Mrs. Norma Lee Gatens of Poca, children Norma and husband Stanley Meadows of Hurricane; Dr. Joseph Vaughan and wife Dina of Lewisburg ; and Mary and husband Thomas Mills of Winfield; eight grandchildren Bridget Adkins, Aimee Hartley, Jennifer Vaughan, Thomas Lee Vaughan, III, Luke Mills, Hannah Mills, Kara Vaughan and Evan Vaughan ; three great grandchildren Caleb, Kelly Jane and Elizabeth.

Mr. Everett Nelson McLaughlin, 68 of Nitro passed away July 18, 2006 in the VA Medical Center.
Mr. McLaughlin is a former employee of Avtex Fibers; Army Veteran; Graduate of Nitro High School and an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is preceded in death by his parents Belva and James McLaughlin; sister Phyllis Clark and infant grandchild R. B. “Ayla” Hall.
He is survived by his children Belinda Reffett of Deputy, IN: David McLaughlin of Mt. Gilead, OH; and Jaclyn McLaughlin of Fraziers Bottom; sisters Marie Harris of Nitro and Shirley Hartman of South Charleston; grandchildren James Farley, Aaron Morgan, Todd Reffett, Denney Reffett and Dalaina McLaughlin; one great grandchild Zoe Farley and special friend Bill Hickman. He will always be remembered as “Uncle Joe” by his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Maxil V. Fisher, 88 of Liberty passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2006.
He retired from Monsanto after 40+ years of service. He was a member of Wade Chapel United Methodist Church of Confidence. Over the years he held many positions at Wade Chapel. He was a respected member of the community who loved his family and enjoyed farming.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Nola, son Charles, and parents Rev. and Mrs. M.V. Fisher.
Surviving son and daughter-in-law James C. and Carolyn Fisher of Liberty, brother Cavell B. Fisher of Liberty, and grandchildren Angela and husband First Sgt. James Beller of Germany, Mary and husband Tim King of Red House and James A. and wife Jamie Fisher of Liberty. He also loved and was loved by his four great grandchildren Mitchell and Megan King and Tyler and Levi Fisher.
