Survivors include three sons, Clyde, Gerald and Bobby; two daughters, Janey and Donna; 16 grandchildren, Craig, Kevin, Jeff, David, Jerry, Russell, Danny, Becky, B.J., Justin, Tim, Jamie, Suzy, Michelle, Deanna and Chad; 25 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tommy.

He was born July 2, 1926, in Elizabeth to the late Harvi and Tintcy Jenkins Joy. He was a retired group leader for Owens-Corning in Newark, president of the Kokosing Coon Club and a member of Bladensburg Church of Christ.

PARKERSBURG - Michael D. Knight, 59, of Parkersburg departed this life Saturday, April 19, 2003, in Parkersburg following a long illness.
Mr. Knight was born Nov. 11, 1943, in West Union, Doddridge County. He was a graduate of Doddridge County High School with the Class of 1963, saw service in Vietnam, retired from the U.S. Air Force in San Angelo, Texas, and moved to Parkersburg in 2000.

PARKERSBURG - Robert Lee Mowery Sr., 69, of Parkersburg died April 20, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born in Parkersburg, the son of the late Clarence C. and Roxie I. Cochran Mowery. He had at one time been employed as a guitar teacher, teaching Chet Atkins-style at Powell and Clark Music and Gallagher's Music Store and enjoyed playing music in the music room of Rinkie Dinks in Marietta. He attended the Heartsafire Church in Parkersburg.

He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps after 10 years of service. He was retired from the Krystal Co.

She was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Raleigh County, a daughter of the late Wavie Pearl Clay Shumate and Benjamin Johnson Shumate of Beckley, W.Va., and granddaughter of the late Sarah Acord Clay and Andrew Bryon Clay of Beckley.

She was born July 26, 1947, in Wood County, a daughter of the late Manford Earl and Ina Winrick Wingrove. She was a 1967 graduate of Rome Canann High School and was employed at Best Photo and Nashville Photo as a color correction reader and film cutter.
Paul D. Alkire
PARKERSBURG - Paul D. Alkire, 85, of Parkersburg died April 19, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Dec. 21, 1917, in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of the late Rev. Roy and Emma Ellen Core Alkire. He was retired from the Dils Brothers Department Store, where he worked in maintenance. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army, serving from 1940-45. His duties in the armed forces took him to Normandy, northern France and central Europe. He was gifted and skilled in the art of woodworking.
Robert Armstrong
SARASOTA, Fla. - Dr. Robert B. Armstrong, M.D., 70, died April 1, 2003.
He was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Wood County and moved to Sarasota, Fla., in 2001 from Scottsdale, Ariz. He graduated from Parkersburg High School and from West Virginia University in 1955. He then graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1959 and Philadelphia Naval Hospital in 1963. He was a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine-Diplomate, American College of Physicians and American Society of Internal Medicine. In his youth, he was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Parkersburg and was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 3 in Parkersburg.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Irene "Granny" Hartshorn Brassie, 85, of Indianapolis, Ind., died April 16, 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilma "Tyke" Coomer and Brenda Cunningham; one son, James D. Hartshorn; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

SISTERSVILLE - Florence M. Davis, 94, of Sistersville died April 19, 2003, at the Sistersville Center.
She was born March 15, 1909, in New Martinsville, a daughter of the late Oliver and Pearl Collins Folger. She retired as a nurse at Wetzel County Hospital and attended Oxford Street Church of Christ, Sistersville.

She was born in Dec. 4, 1905, in Murphytown, a daughter of the late Jesse and Ruth Shuttle Dimmick. She had worked at the Surprise Store and was retired from Dils Brothers Department Store.

She was born in Belpre, a daughter of the late Everett and Edith Barton Ilderton. Mrs. Ilderton was a legal secretary and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
James R. Potter
VINCENT - James R. Potter, 58, of Vincent died Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1945, in Parkersburg, the son of the late James Bernard and Helen Louise Welsh Potter. He attended Parkersburg Catholic School and graduated from Belpre High School in 1963. He attended Mountain State College from 1966-1967 and Ohio University from 1969-1971. Over the past several years he worked for area appliance and furniture stores and automobile dealerships. In 1977, he and Barry Ingham formed the musical duo "Windsong," which played country and bluegrass music. As a duo, they played more than 500 shows in the area, including the Harvest Moon Festival for the past 18 years, the St. Joseph Hospital Awards Banquet for the past 22 years, various wedding receptions and the Becky Thatcher. He was a songwriter, an avid horse-lover and loved the country. He had attended the St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
