She was born May 2, 1923, in Pleasants County, a daughter of Myrtle Alice DeLong and Harvey Masten. She worked as a seamstress for 34 years, including working at the former United Manufacturing in Harrisville, W.Va. She loved woodworking and painting cutouts, bluegrass music and Christmas.

Lillian Hardman Johnson, 89, of Fairfax, Va., passed away Sept. 27, 2004, at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Virginia.
She was born in Roane County, W.Va., May 21, 1915, a daughter of the late Harry and Ora Hamric Hardman. She was a Catholic by faith; a retired legal secretary; and she was an artist that deeply enjoyed oil painting.

She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Charles R. and Naomi Tracewell Barnes. She spent most of her life in Parkersburg and was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by a nephew, William E. Ruehl of Parkersburg; two nieces, Catherine E. Friend of Oakland, Md., and Hollie Hunt of Hancock, Md.; three great-nieces; two great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and five great-great-nephews.
Deward C. Hardman
Deward C. Hardman, 80, of Sand Fork Community, departed this life at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, W.Va., following an extended illness.
He was born April 12, 1924, in Gilmer County, a son of the late Okey and Dora See Hardman. Mr. Hardman was retired from Ceilcote Air Pollution Control in LaGrange, Ohio. He was an 11-year Navy veteran of World War II and a member of DAV of Lewis County.

Bernard F. (Bert) McKinney, 64, of Parkersburg went home to be with the Lord Sept. 28, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born in Parkersburg on July 6, 1940, a son of the late Robert M. and Mildred Boston McKinney. Bert was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; the Civil War Reenactment Group, Company G, 22nd Virginia Infantry CSA; National Rifleman's Association; Civil Air Patrol; and Parkersburg Moose Lodge.
Dwight A. Merrell
Dwight "Whitey" Adams Merrell, 80, of Braun Road, Belpre passed away peacefully Sunday at his home.
He was born in Old Saybrook, Conn., to Dwight H. and Clara A. Merrell. He lived the majority of his life in Pittsfield, Mass., where he and his wife, Julia, ran the Westenhok Farm. In 1974, they and their sons, Peter and Tim, farmed in Sauqoit, N.Y., until he and Julia moved to Gt. Barrington, Ma. He worked at the Mead Paper Co. in Lee, Mass., until his retirement. They relocated to Belpre in 1989.

Hoyt L. Brand
Hoyt Lee Brand, 67, of Parkersburg died Dec. 3, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital following a brutal fight with cancer.
He was born in Wood County, a son of the late James Andy and Sylvia Fordyce Brand. Hoyt was a glass gatherer and presser and had worked at several glass houses in several states. He worked at the Parkersburg Truck Stop in his later years. Hoyt was a U. S. Navy veteran.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, with visitation from 6 p.m. Sunday night until the hour of service. Family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Harry B. DeWees, 96, of Normantown, W.Va., died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Sunbridge of Glenville.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Stumptown. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville.
Bernice B. Johnson
Bernice B. Johnson, 97, went home to be with her Lord, where she will celebrate Christmas and all eternity. She passed away 5 p.m. Dec. 2, 2004, in the Arbors at Marietta.
She was born June 12, 1907, in New Matamoras, a daughter of Charles and Grace Flower Butler. She had spent her early life in Williamstown and later lived in Parkersburg. She had been employed at L. Gruber and Sons in Marietta and was later employed by the G.C. Murphy Co. until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting and being with her family. She was a long time member of the North Parkersburg Baptist Church and was later a charter member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Robert F. Mather
Robert F. Mather, 61, of Orange Drive, Williamstown died 10:24 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1943, in Sewickley, Pa., a son of Marion Holzapfel Mather Hill of Vero Beach, Fla., and the late Floyd Mather. He had spent most of his life in Williamstown and was a graduate of Williamstown High School with the Class of 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea for 13 months. When he returned from Korea, he was stationed at Fort Bragg. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 168 of Marietta following his discharge from the service. He attended the Peoples Church at Boaz.
