Edith Mae Hall, 86, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the Eagle Pointe Nursing Home, Parkersburg.
She was born May 28, 1916, in Grant County, a daughter of the late William C. Getz, and Hattie V. Getz. She was a longtime secretary to the Academic Dean at Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Fairmont, and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown, prior to moving to Fairmont, and was a former member and Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 155, Shepherdstown.
Gilbert L. Hedrick
Gilbert L. Hedrick, 88, of Parkersburg died Sept. 3, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born in Wood County, a son of the late Burton S. and Catherine L. Hedrick. He was a self-employed mechanic and attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Junior Mahoney
CAIRO - Junior Mahoney, 77, of Bonds Creek Road, Cairo, departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in Parkersburg.
He was born June 17, 1925, near Deerwalk, Wood County. Mr. Mahoney was retired and had worked for many years as a surveyor's assistant with the former Marshall Surveying of Deerwalk. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was the holder of the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman's Badge, as well as the UN Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Nutter Farm United Methodist Church at Nutter Farm, Ritchie County.
Donald Shepherd
Dr. Donald L. Shepherd, 54, of Parkersburg, died Sept. 3, 2002, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born May 14, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, a son of Frances Bowman Shepherd of Burlington, and the late Robert Shepherd. He graduated from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Mo., moved to Parkersburg in April 1981, and began his practice in June 1981.
David L. Simonds
David L. Simonds, 50, of Spencer, died Sept. 4, 2002, in Roane General Hospital, Spencer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Irene Simonds; one son, Daniel; one dauther Pamela; and three grandchildren.
Jack W. Weber
Jack W. Weber, 81, of St. Marys died Sept. 4, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born Nov. 28, 1920, in St. Marys, a son of the late Edward T. and Isabella Chisholm Weber Sr. He was a lifelong member of the St. Marys Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder of the church. He was a 1938 graduate of St. Marys High School, attending West Virginia University before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attained the rank of major. After the war, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He attended and graduated from Marietta College. He was Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. He worked for the American Cyanamid during the 1950s. He attended the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He retired from the Foote Mineral Company as a purchasing agent, was an admiral in the Cherry River Navy. He was a life member of the St. Marys Elks Lodge 1701 B.P.O.E. His hobbies included golfing and sports.

Luelle Mae Beale, 82, of Conroe, Texas, formerly of Marietta, died Sept. 3, 2002, in Texas. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.

Deloris E. Bailey, 74, of Parkersburg died Sept. 3, 2002, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Harry O. and Lottie Mae Harper Bailey. She was a former manager for the Jet Store in Parkersburg. She was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church.
Phyllis Harper
Phyllis Catherine Harper, 70, of Spencer died Sept. 2, 2002.
She is survived by three sisters, Emogene Elmore and Mary Jones, both of Clendenin, W.Va., and Virginia Hollis of Charles Town, W.Va.; one brother, James C. "Jim" Harper of Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gladys L. Hurd
Mrs. Gladys L. "Gigi" Hurd, 100, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Preston Health Center, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Mrs. Hurd was born Aug. 17, 1902, in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of the late William and Lavinia Hall. She was employed at Scott Paper Company, Pennsylvania, Sinclair College, Dayton, Ohio, and Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Gigi was formerly a member of the American Youth Foundation, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Roswell United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Traveler's club. She was also active in the Young at Hearts club and Leisure club in Dunwoody, Ga.
Robert L. Kelley
Robert Lorn Kelley, 61, of Vienna, formerly of Norman, Okla., passed away Sept. 3, 2002, at Sunbridge Care Center, Parkersburg.
Robert was born June 17, 1941, in Grantsville, the only son of Elta Fern Mace Kelley of Vienna and the late Olen Ernest Kelley. He was a self-employed dry-wall contractor, and was Methodist by faith.
Sara Loughner
Sara Marjorie Cunningham Loughner, 81, of Folsom, Calif., passed away Aug. 30, 2002, after a six- month illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Harrisville. Margie was an R.N. for 52 years, and a realtor. She worked mostly in Livonia, Mich., at St. Mary Hospital. She had been a resident of Folsom for the past three years, Livonia for 44 years, and member of the Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church for 42 years. Among her proudest accomplishments were being a master gardener and receiving her A.S. degree in hospice at 72 years and being a member of the Monuka Lake Oaring Team. She was a kind, generous, gentle person, and was blessed with many true friends.
Naomi R. McClure
Naomi Ruth McClure, 78, former resident of Tenth Street, Marietta, died 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in Harmar Place.
She was born July 20, 1924, in Marietta, a daughter of the late Walter W. and Rosa Strehle McClure. She was a graduate of Marietta College, and attended Ohio University for her master's degree. She also studied drama and English at Northwestern University. She had been a teacher in the Marietta city school system for several years. She was an accomplished musician on the piano, the accordion, and the guitar, and sang in many churches in the area. She was a licensed funeral director in the state of Ohio, and was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church, where she had been an adult Sunday School teacher and had held offices in the United Methodist Women. She was also affiliated with the adult choir of the church for many years, where she was in change of cataloging the choir music. For several years, she had made her home in Chicago, where she was affiliated with the Chicago Temple United Methodist Church, which is located on the top floors of a downtown skyscraper, and she held various positions there. While in Chicago, she was a salesperson in the designer clothes section of Carson, Pirie, Scott department store.

Lana Kathy McCracken, 55, of Marietta died Sept. 1, 2002, at Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio.
Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" McCracken; her mother, Ethel Kehl; son, Michael and wife Tracy; three grandchildren, Justin and Brittany Hyson and Kailee McCracken; brother and wife, Craig and Cecilia; son-in-law, Robert Hyson.

Mary Ann Porter, 68, of West Union, died Aug. 31, 2002, at her residence.
Survivors include five sons, Tom of West Union, Kenneth of Pottstown, Pa., Mary of Victoria, Texas, James of West Chester, Pa., and John of Lynchburg, Va.; four daughters, Patsy Eller, Corpus Christi, Texas, Tina Porter, Hannibal, Ohio, Peggy Delgado, Victoria, and Mary Ann Porter, Pottstown; three brothers; one sister and 20 grandchildren.

Linda E. Riley, 59, of Lowell died Sept. 3, 2002, at her home.
She was a 1960 graduate of Parkersburg High School.
Juanita P. Roberts
Juanita P. "Nita" Roberts, 77, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Aug. 31, 2002.
She was born July 13, 1925, to the late Homer and Bertha (Callow) Roberts. She moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1991 from Venice, Fla., where she had lived since moving from Kettering, Ohio in 1985. Nita was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith.

Ada Grace Sams, 78, of Canton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in the comfort of her home.
She was born May 4, 1924 in New England, W.Va., a daughter of the late Matthew and Hannah Jane (West) Briggs. Ada held her family close and dear to her.
