Janice M. Hamilton
Janice M. Hamilton, 98, of Sutton, formerly, of Burnsville, died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at the Braxton Health Care Center near Sutton, after a long illness. She was born June 30, 1904, in Williamson, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Newton Hamilton and Mary Maria Blagg. She was also preceded in death by one brother, John Esker Hamilton. Janice was a member of the Burnsville United Methodist Church & United Methodist Women, a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, a Sunday School teacher and youth superintendent, and a member of the Braxton Historical Society. Survivors include: sister, Elizabeth Hamilton Holliday of Trooper, PA; several nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 27 a the Burnsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Duskey and Rev. Harold Francis officiating. Burial was in the K of P Cemetery at Burnsville, WV.

Mrs. Sharon D. Snodgrass
Mrs. Sharon D. Snodgrass, 46, of Herold Rt., Sutton, died Monday, July 22, 2002, in the Mid-Western Regional Hospital at Zion, Illinois, after a long illness. She was born August 28, 1955, at Grantsville, WV, a daughter of Carl Huffman of Copen and the late Joyce Arthur Huffman. She was also preceded in death by her son, Donnie Godfrey. She was shepherd. Survivors include: husband, Greg W. Snodgrass; daughters, Christina Miller and husband, Charles of Frametown and Tiffany Snodgrass of Sutton; sons, Thaddeus Snodgrass and wife, Shannon of Elkins, WV; Jason Snodgrass and wife, Beth of Little Birch, WV and Clifford Snodgrass of Sutton, WV; several brothers and sisters. The family received friends at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, WV on Thursday, July 25 from 6 till 9 p.m. Following visitation, the body was cremated.

Oliver C. Loyd
Oliver C. Loyd, 88, of Gassaway, passed away July 22, 2002, in Braxton County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 22, 1914, in Exchange, the son of the late Emery and Katie Frame Loyd. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Inez Hall and Helen Helms. He was retired from Union Carbide with 35 years service, a former Go-Mart worker with over a decade of service and oversaw many construction projects in the area. He was a member, trustee and treasurer of Gassaway United Methodist Church, Gassaway, a former scoutmaster of Troop 195 and recipient of scouting's Silver Beaver Award, their highest national award. He was a 50 year member of Gassaway Lodge 133 AF & AM. He served on the committee of Central West Virginia Aging Services, was a member of the Library Commission, a board member of Mountaineer Food Bank and was presented with the J.C. Penny Golden Rule Award in 2000 for community service. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Glenda Loyd; sons, Herbert Loyd of Lexington, KY, James Loyd of Nashville, Tennessee., Michael Loyd of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Mae Loyd of Clarksburg, Garnet Winkler of Lake Milton, Ohio, Hilda Reynolds of Gassaway, Wilma Chandler of Clendenin; six grandchildren. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26 at Gassaway United Methodist Church, Gassaway with Rev. Stephen J. White officiating. Burial was in Bealls Mill Cemetery, Gassaway, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Gassaway Lodge 133 AF & AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Oliver C. Loyd Memorial at either Boy Scout Troop 95, First United Methodist Church, 905 Glendale Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25303; Gassaway United Methodist Church, Seventh and Braxton Streets, Gassaway, WV 26624 or Mountaineer Food Bank, 180 Enterprise Drive, Gassaway, WV 26624. Keith G. Loudermilk
Keith G. Loudermilk, 50, of Sutton, died, Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at CAMC-Memorial Division, in Charleston, after a short illness. He was born July 1, 1952, at Sutton, a son of Catherine Dean Kershner of Camden-on-Gauley, WV and the late Kenneth Loudermilk, Sr. Keith was a disable coal miner and a member of the UMWA. Survivors include: wife, Regina Gibson Loudermilk; step-daughter, Jennifer Gibson of Exchange, WV; son, Travis Loudermilk of Boone Co.. WV; brother, Kenneth Loudermilk, Jr., of Sutton, WV; half brother, Kent Jones of Maryland; Maternal Grandmother, Glenola Crislip of Camden-on-Gauley, WV. A funeral service was held, Sunday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, with Rev. Vaughn James officiating. Burial was in the Braxton County Cemetery near Sutton, WV.

Glen A. Conley
Glen A. Conley, 76, of Sutton, died July 24, 2002 in Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, WV of injuries received in an automobile accident on Old Route 19 South. He was born March 25, 1926 in Braxton County, the son of the late Warden and Elsie Dobbins Conley. He was retired from Republic Steel, Massillon, OH as an overhead crane operator with 33 years service. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church and the United Steel Workers. Also preceding him in death were his wife Dorothy Holmes Conley who died November 22, 1988; and three brothers. He is survived by two daughters, Marcia Albright of Sutton, WV and Stacy Jo Riffle of Gassaway, WV.; one sister, Betty Ellison of Ohio and one grandson, Glen S. Conley. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Brandon Conley, Tyler Conley, Caitlin Conley, McKinzie Conley and Ashley Riffle. Graveside services were held Friday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Braxton County Cemetery, Sutton,WV with Rev. Tom Propst officiating. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home served the Conley family.

Ada B. Gillespie Cutlip
Ada B. Gillespie Cutlip, 91, of Sutton died July 24, 2002 in Putnam General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born June 21, 1911 in Braxton County, WV the daughter of the late Hanson and Ida Hosey. Mrs. Cutlip was a clerk and a homemaker and she was a member of the Long Run Baptist Church. Also preceding her in death were husbands, Delbert G. Gillespie and Virgil V. Cutlip; daughter, Mary Jo Smith; brother, Herbert Hosey; and sisters Odie Marie Fields and Iva Lee Thayer. She is survived by one son, Gary Gillespie and wife Anna Belle of Glenville, WV; 2 daughters, Shirley James and husband Don of Teays Valley, WV and Judy Smith and husband L.J. of Shelby, NC; sister Ruby Elaine Esteppe and husband Jack of Lynchburg, Va and son-in-law Ron Smith of Pulaski, PA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton, WV with John Long officiating. Ann Hoover
Ann Hoover, 64, went home to her Lord on July 22, 2002. She was a loving wife, mother, mommy, and mama. Born in Widen, W. Va., Ann lived in Lakemore for over 40 years. She was a member of Home Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Glenna Frame, and sister and brother-in-law, Cor and Frank, she is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Bob Hoover; daughters, Gayle (Wally) Jackiewicz of Springfield Township and Debbie (Tim) Savill of Hartville; grandchildren, Joey and Wendi Jackiewicz, Jason and Jarrod Savill, and Matt Memmer; brothers, George Frame of North Carolina and Rod (Libby) Frame of West Virginia; sisters, Nor (Jim) Baughman, Jean (Sonny) Vaughan, Lena (Bob) Houghton, Rotha (Frank) Young, all of West Virginia; and many other loving relatives and friends. Mrs. Sharon L. Strickland, 68, of Taylor, Michigan, died Friday, July 26, 2002 in the Oakwood Hospital Heritage Center in Taylor, Michigan. She was born January 1, 1934 at Cabin Creek, WV, a daughter of the Seybert Thomas and Anna S. Woods Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Strickland on April 23, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Koslowski) Strickland of Taylor, Michigan; son, Charles D. Strickland II and wife, Linda of Duck, WV; sister, Arlene Turner of Canton, Michigan; brother, Harold Woods of Flatwoods, WV; grandchildren- Steven, Nichole, Charles, David and Michael; great grandchildren- Rebecca and Lauren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 2 at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Strickland officiating. Denton F. Campbell
Denton F. Campbell, 78, of Duck, died July 25, 2002 in the Laurel Nursing Home at Big Otter. He was born October 31, 1923, at Elmira, Braxton County, the son of the late Carl Campbell and Tina Hall Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Roger Campbell and Harvey Campbell and a sister, Carolyn Turner. He was retired from U.M.W.A. Central Appalachian Coal Company with 32 years service and was also employed by MPM Machine Stop. He was a member of Elmira Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Frank and Ted, both of Bellview, Nebraska; Dave of Frametown; daughters, Joy Davis of Akron, Ohio; Lucy Hamner of Newville, WV and Sheila Mott of Elizabeth, KY; brothers Stanley Campbell of Servia, Don Campbell of Summersville, Dale Campbell of Bomont, Carl Campbell, Jr. of Danville, Edwin Campbell of Hinkley, Ohio; sisters, Dolly Buckles and Maxine Downey, both of Mount Polaski, Ill., eleven grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway with the Rev. Mark Gerwig officiating. John F. Smith
John F. Smith, 68, of Burnsville, WV died July 24, 2002 at this home in Burnsville. He was born February 6, 1934, the son of the late Earl A. and Margaret A. Smith. He was a construction worker, welder and barber. He was a veteran of the US Navy and a Protestant by faith. He was a member of Sutton Moose Lodge #825, Masonic Lodge 133 AF & AM and the NRA. He was an avid sportsman and coin collector. He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Kay Conrad; on son, Jon E. Smith of Sutton, two daughters, Jerri Oney and Cindy Hoover, both of Sutton and their mother, Aleece Fisher Smith of Sutton; one sister, Helen Teets of Gassaway and 7 grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway with Rev. Edgar Suite officiating. Burial followed in the Sugar Creek Cemetery near Gassaway. Richard M. Roach Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John Stewart Moyers
John Stewart Moyers, 37, of Wilsie died November 19, 2002 at home. He was a TV technician and a Baptist. Surviving: mother, June Sears Belknap of Gassaway; father, Dennis Glen Moyers of Wilsie; brothers, Mark Moyers of Wilsie, Kyle Belknap of Wilsie; sister, Cija Shackleford of Linn. A gathering of friends will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 3 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

Olive Gillespie Suesli
Olive Gillespie Suesli, 86, of Gassaway died November 30, 2002 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. She was born November 29, 1916 in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Martha A. Long Gillespie. She was a retired schoolteacher with 33 years of service in Braxton, Upshur and Hardy counties; she was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College; a member of the Gassaway Chapter #32 Order of Eastern Star and a past Matron; and a member of the Engel Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by husband, Eugene Suesli in 1992. Surviving: sons, Alan Wayne Suesli of Gassaway, James Joseph Suesli of Hamilton; brother, Paul Gillespie of Canton, OH: five grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 3 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. George Hamrick officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Cave Community Cemetery.

Hubert L. Prince
Hubert L. Prince, 86 of Falls Mill, WV. passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at home after a short illness. He was born July 28, 1916 at Lake Lane, WV. a son of the late O.R. Prince and Mertie C. Prince. He was a Welder for WesVac F.M.C. a World War Two army veteran, with the 82nd Airbourne, a Methodist, one of the last surviving founders of the WesVaco Sportsman Club, and a member of the WV Coon Hunters Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Geneva Prince on February 26, 1994. He is survived by: 2 sons, Steve Prince of Falls Mill, WV and Russell W. Prince of Cynthiana, KY; 1 sister, Juanita Lee of GA; 4 grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30 at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods, WV with Rev. Bonnie Starkey and Rev. Ressie Robison officiating. Burial was in the Green Hill Cemetery.

Junior L. Facemire
Junior L. Facemire, 90, of Tesla, WV, died November 30, 2003, at his home after a short illness. He was born February 13, 1912, in Braxton County, the son of the late Winfield Scott Facemire and Ersa Crites Facemire Martin. He was a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Church. Mr. Facemire was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a United States Army World War II Veteran, and a member of the V. F. W. and the American Legion. He was also preceded in death by his two children, Robert Lee and Phyllis Jean; three brothers, Mason, Frelon, and Osberne Facemire; and four half-sisters, Lela, Mae, Ora, and Maude. Mr. Facemire is survived by his wife, Mae Woods Facemire; two brothers Delbert Facemire and Eugene Facemire both of Sutton; and one sister, Estelle Delbridge of Sutton, WV. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobbie Harper officiating. Burial was in the Hoover Cemetery near Sutton. Kent Martin, 63, of Strange Creek, WV died April 7, 2003 in Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, WV following a short illness. He was born March 10, 1940 in Braxton County, WV the son of Beulah Martin of Cross Lanes, WV and the late Walsch Martin. Mr. Martin was a recently retired construction engineer. He is also survived by his wife Sandra Grogg Martin of Birch River, WV; 5 sons Douglas K. Martin and Dana K. Martin of Birch River, WV; Thomas V. Martin of Florida; Adam S. Martin of Charlotte, NC; and Eric A. Martin of Strange Creek, WV; 3 sisters Lorene Thompson of Cross Lanes, Evelyn Lawson of Akron, Ohio; and Karen Cavender of Elkview, WV. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren Kenny Martin, Kody Martin, Alissa Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Dylan Martin, Kyle Martin, Megan Martin, Sarah Martin, Tiffany Martin and Derek Martin. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Greene- Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV with Rev. Roger Dunlap officiating. Burial was in the Eureka Cemetery, Strange Creek, WV. Charles E. Tate
Charles E. Tate, 62, of Sutton, WV died Sunday, April 6 , 2003, at his home after a sudden illness. He was born March 8, 1941, in Kanawha County, WV, a son of the late Minnie Hugart Tate. He was a truck driver for Hubert Jones, Inc. Surviving companion: Margaret Burdette of Sutton and brother William 'Bill' Tate of Florida. A memorial service was held Friday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home.

William Roy Mick
William Roy Mick of Newport News, Va, passed away April 6, 2003 in OBICI Hospital, Suffolk. He was a native of West Virginia and 1 1962 graduate of Gassaway High School. He retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class after 24 years of service to his country. He was also a former manager of the Fort Eutis Golf Course for 14 years, was of the Baptist faith, and a member of American Legion Beechmont Post 357. Surviving are his wife, Oleta Miller Mick; sons and their wives, William Kenneth and Rose Marie Mick of Granby, Mass, Douglas Steven and Renee Faith Mick of Yorktown, Va; sister, Janice Carrol February of Dale City, Va.; brother, Steven French Mick of Martinsburg, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Rachel and Collin Mick, Joshua and Jonathan Guzmand and Rebecca, Reilly and Sheriden Mick; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Friday, April 11 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, with Rev. Mark Stump officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Strange Creek, W.Va.

James "Leon" Knight
James 'Leon' Knight, 69, of Berryville, VA died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at his home. Leon was born August 18, 1933 in Sutton, WV the son of the late George and Georgia Hosey Knight. He married Rosalie M. Tinney on February 19, 1954 in Red House, MD. Surviving with his wife are a son, Timothy L. Knight of Berryville; two daughters, Amy K. Mann of Berryville and Kim K. Sandretzky of Hungary; four sisters, Georgetta Knight and Dee Facemire of Sutton, WV, Reda Jo Robinson of Fairmont, WV, Betty Craigo of St. Albans, WV; one brother, Calvin Knight of Sutton, WV; two grandsons, Brian D. Mann of Berryville and Matthew R. Sandretzky of Hungary; and two granddaughters, Britney N. Mann of Berryville and Michelle A. Sandretzky of Hungary. He was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine Barker of Sutton, WV and Hestor Singleton of Tulrosa, NM; and one brother, Charles Knight of St. Albans, WV. Leon relocated to Aldie, VA in 1959 where he resided until 1988, when he moved to Berryville, VA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1988 with over 30 years of service at Dulles International Airport. After his retirement, Leon spent his time being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, building houses and raising cattle. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He attended Crums United Methodist Church in Berryville and Little River Baptist Church in Aldie, VA. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with Rev. Sandra H. Stamey and Rev. Jesse Parker officiating. Leon's son-in-law, Dennis Sandretzky delivered the eulogy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Lodge, American Cancer Society, 636 W. Lexington Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Timothy Lee Huffman
Timothy Lee Huffman, 31, of Sutton, WV died Friday, April 11, 2003 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV following a short illness. He was born July 16, 1971 in Oakland, MD, the son of James Lee and Ruth Ann Huffman of Cedarville, WV. He was a veteran of Desert Storm and the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Huffman was a Baptist and a member of the Braxton County E.M.S. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Worley and Opal Nicholson and Earnest and Ida Huffman. Also surviving are his wife Sharon Morris Huffman of Sutton, WV; son Robert Dewayne Cutlip II at home; daughter Stephanie Carol Huffman of Keyser, WV; brother Bryan Huffman of Cedarville, WV; sister Kimberly Ann Arnette and husband Danny of Aurora, WV; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV with Rev. Cofer 'Bud' Cochran officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burnsville, WV. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home served at the Huffman family.

William Joseph "Joe Bob" Ankrum
William Joseph 'Joe Bob' Ankrum, age 76, of Gassaway, WVa., died May 13, 2003 at Pittsburgh VA Hospital after a long illness. He was born March 23, 1927, a son of Richard Kenna and Bertha Paxton Ankrum. He was a 1944 graduate of Gassaway High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corp. from 11-18-44 through 7-8-46, and was stationed aboard the LSM 343 and LSM 62 during World War II. He served in the W.Va. National Guard 150th Infantry from 1946-1950 and the 150th Armored Calvary form 1953-1964. He worked for the B&O Railroad from 1946-1989, retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, and the Masonic Lodge 133. Preceding him in death was his wife of 18 years, Teruko Ankrum of Gassaway; brothers Donzel Ankrum, Leo Richard Ankrum, Nobby Bar Ankrum and sister Marie Melton. Survivors include: sons Michael Ankrum, D.D.S. of Blacksburg, Va. and Kenna Ankrum of Tampa, FL; daughter Terri Cozart of Murfreesboro, TN; stepdaughters Carmen Teresa Hendren of Melbourne, FL, Carol M. Fauble of Stroudsburg, PA and Tambra Morrison of CA; sisters Lorraine Caplinger of Baltimore, MD and Jean Wakefield of Philadelphia, PA; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service for friends and family will be planned for a later date this summer at Bealls Mill Cemetery. Benjamin J. Morrison
Benjamin J. Morrison, 59, of Walbash Avenue, Burnsville, WV, died on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at his residence. Born on May 13, 1944 in Burnsville, WV; he was a son of the late William E. 'Barney' Morrison and Ruth (Peck) Morrison. Survivors include one brother and his wife, Michael (wife Esther) Morrison, Stephens City, VA; one niece, Courtney Morrison, Stephens City, VA; one nephew, David Morrison, Stephens City, VA; special friend, Charlotte McDougal, Burnsville, WV, and her daughter, Samantha. Mr. Morrison was a 1963 graduate of Burnsville High School and completed the Body Repair Training Program at Fred W. Eberle Technical Center in Buckhannon. He was employed at Bob's Body Shop in Sutton; and Super Walmart in Buckhannon. He was serving as a member of the City Council in Burnsville, WV; and was a member of the Burnsville United Methodist Church where he previously served as chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, and various other positions. He also attended the Burnsville Church of God. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 from the Burnsville United Methodist Church with Reverend Harold Duskey and Reverend Harold Francis officiating. Interment was in the End of the Trail Cemetery in Clintonville, WV.

Ruby M. Jones
Ruby M. Jones, 89, of Triplett, Braxton County, died May 17, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Helen Butler of Sutton. She was born May 5. 1914 in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Tom and Rosie Stump Dobbins. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Corbett J ones. Surviving; son, Ernest Eugene Jones of Elyria, OH; daughter, Ruth Spencer of Elyria, OH; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. Burial followed in the Crooked Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Billy Roland Blankenship
Billy Roland Blankenship, 68, of Burnsville, WV, died Tuesday, May 19, 2003, in the Braxton County Memorial Hospital at Gassaway, after a long illness. He was born December 10, 1934 at Little Birch, a son of the late Elijah Clinton Blankenship and Bessie Lu Hall Blankeship. He was also preceded in death by sister Christine and brothers Earl and Okey Blankenship. He was a construction worker and a member of the Morman Faith. Surviving: wife, Shirley May Williams Blankenship; daughter, Kimberly Blankenship of Cheyenne, Wyoming; step-daughters, Linda Perry of Bellingham, Washington and April Perry of Suquamish, Washington; sisters, Cindy Blankenship of Sequim of Washington and Ruby Stallings address unknown; brother, Cletus Blankenship of Prescott, Arizona; 2 grandchildren & 3 step grandchildren. A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 23 at the Mt. Olive Cemetery at Tioga, WV. Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, WV are in charge of the arrangements.
