He was a graduate of Simmons High School, Montgomery, attended West Virginia State College, was an Army veteran of World War II, a former coal miner, a delivery person for Tony's Market and Summers Market and was a retired delivery person from Galperin's Music. He was a member of Levi First Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a trustee, deacon and member of the Senior and Mass choirs, a church bus driver and member of Mallard Sunday school class, a member of Mount Olivet Ministries and Deacons Council, Mount Olivet District Laymen' Fellowship, West Virginia State Ministers and Deacons Levi Visitation Ministry, a lead deacon of the Friday Community Prayer group, a cast member of the "The Lord's Supper" Pageant for 16 years as Judas, a member of Rand Neighborhood Watch was a Food Pantry Mission transportation provider, member of the NAACP and American Legion Post 57. Surviving: wife, Barbara L. Erby; sons, William H. Jr., John T. and Jesse C., of Rand, Robert L. of Charleston, Henry L. of Germany; daughter, Alice F. Jackson of South Charleston; sister, M. She was a teacher's administrative assistant of Behavioral Disorder Children for Kanawha County Schools, a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and a 1994 Black History Advanced Honoree at Tiskelwah Elementary School where there is a monument her honor. She retired from Koppers Company Inc., Green Spring, with 40 years of service, was a member of Romney First United Methodist Church, served as president of United Methodist Women and on the Official Board of the church, was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 84, an active member of Romeny Women's Club and a volunteer with the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Romney. Surviving: husband, Lilburn W. Henderson; son, Stephen W. Henderson of Staunton, Va.; daughters, Lois Ann Henderson of Bluefield, Janis L. Nicholson of Springfield, Nancy K. The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in South Charleston to determine the cause of death, said a spokesman with the medical examiner's office. He was a graduate of East High School, Fairlea, W.Va. Surviving: sister, Vicki Lyall of Asheville, N.C.; paternal grandmother, Arbutus Lyall of Auto, W.Va.
