VIENNA -- Opal Green, 87, of Vienna, Wood County, formerly of Walton, Roane County, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, in Camden-Clark Hospital, Parkersburg. She was a native of Roane County, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held leadership and teaching positions in the women's auxiliary. She was influential in organizing the first band for Walton High School and worked with the band boosters for many years. Surviving: daughter, Janet Blessing of Vienna; grandchildren, Nancy Harper of St. Albans, Alisa Blessing of Parkersburg, Jason and Matthew Blessing of Vienna; great-grandson, Andy Harper of St. Albans. He was a member of Central Baptist Mission Center, Akron, and Barberton Moose Lodge 759. Surviving: wife, Alma Hamrick; son, Duane of Akron; several half-brothers and half-sisters. William Roger Lewis, 82, of Nitro died Thursday, May 28, 1998, in Americare Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hurricane. He was a retired contractor from Wolford Brothers Construction, St. Albans. Surviving: son, William R. Lewis of Hurricane; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Hansford Boyd Mangus, 76, of Charleston died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at home after a long illness. He was a retired captain from the Charleston Fire Department with 27 years of service, served with the Army in Europe during World War II and was a member of the Retired Policemen and Firemen Association. He was a lifelong resident of Charleston. Surviving: wife, Madelyn Williams Mangus; son, William E. He was a former employee of Minute Man Plumbing in Cleveland. She was born in Keenan, was a graduate of Concord College and was a retired schoolteacher in Monroe County, retiring from Union High School in the mid-'70s. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Fairview Christian Church, Keenan, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Monroe County Historical Society and the Extension Homemakers Club. She was active as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Southern West Virginia Regional Health Council. She was preceded in death by husband, Haskell Shumate. Surviving: son, Sidney E. Shumate of Charlottesville, Va. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Christian Church, Keenan, with the Rev. Roy Hall officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keenan.
