Forrest H. Kirkpatrick
Ex-steel executive Kirkpatrick dies
WHEELING -- A longtime educator and former vice president at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. is dead at age 92.
Forrest H. Kirkpatrick, a dean and distinguished professor at Bethany College, died at Ohio Valley Medical Center on Sunday.
Kirkpatrick was well known in academic circles for his development of personnel administration and industrial relations programs.
He was a visiting professor at numerous schools, including West Virginia University, Columbia University, New York University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Pittsburgh.
In West Virginia, Kirkpatrick served on the West Virginia University Board of Governors for 12 years and on the state Commission on Higher Education for 10 years.
In early 1941, he took a leave from academic work to handle personnel administration at Radio Corporation of America, where he worked for about 11 years.
In 1952, he became an officer of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and later a member of the board of directors. He retired in 1970 but continued to serve on the board until 1975.
Kirkpatrick also consulted for several federal government agencies, including the U.S. Postal Service, Department of Labor, Civil Service Commission and the Department of State. He also served for several years on the commission in charge of the Armed Forces Education Program.
More recently, Kirkpatrick established senior prizes in economics at Wheeling Jesuit University and Bethany College.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kepner Funeral Home in Wheeling. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Memorial Church in Bethany.
Terry L. Allen
Terry Lee Allen, 55, of Cross Lanes died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at home after a short illness.
He was a salesman, a member of Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, an Army-National Guard veteran and a member of Nitro Moose Lodge. He was a lifelong resident of Cross Lanes.
Surviving: daughters, Tara Slater of Poca, Kristin Allen of Cross Lanes; mother, Selina Frances Allen of Cross Lanes; brother, Robert Lyle Allen of Cross Lanes; two grandsons.

WEBSTER SPRINGS -- Bazil E. Arthur, 79, of Webster Springs died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in Genesis Health Ventures, Ansted, after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Webster County, a member of Union Valley Union Mission, Diana, an Army veteran of World War II and a former miner and truck driver.

William R. Cleek, 84, of Charleston died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, after a short illness.
He was a former employee of DuPont, Belle, with 43 years of service and was an Army veteran of World War II.

William Warren Dale, 85, of Charleston died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in CAMC, General Division, after a short illness.
He was a retired bookkeeper from DuPont with 30 years of service, a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Charleston, and Knights of Columbus and was a lifelong resident of Charleston.
Surviving: brother, Paul Robert Dale of Jonesboro, Ga.; several nieces and nephews including W.J. Dale of Montgomery, Thomas Orcutt of South Charleston, and I.N. Phillips of Tornado.

OCALA, Fla. -- Clora Mae Lockard Dean, 85, of Ocala died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in Tampa, Fla., after a long illness.
She was a homemaker, charter member of Loudendale Church of the Nazarene and attended South East Church of the Nazarene.

MADISON -- Evangelist Obid Brady Duty, 91, of Madison died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Boone Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired miner from Robin Hood Mine, Twilight, with 27 years of service, a member of the UMW and Madison Church of Christ and was an evangelist for 52 years, establishing churches in Logan, Boone, Lincoln, Mingo and Wyoming counties.
Surviving: sons, Bill Duty of Cumberland, Ohio, John Duty of Madison, Judson B. Duty of Foster; daughters, Wanda Ballard of Foster, Janice Umberger of Princeton; brother, Fred Duty of Ramage; sister, Vonda Brown of Madison; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

He was a former member of Riverlawn Presbyterian Church and of the church choir, a member of the West Side Lions Club, Charleston, a former assistant Boy Scout master, a member of the American Right of Way Association, a former employee of the state Department of Highways, attended Morris Harvey College and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

William K. Greathouse
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- William K. Greathouse, 73, of Gettysburg died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at home.
He was born in Sutton, W.Va., was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the LST 307, attended West Virginia Institute of Technology and received a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky. He was an employee of NACA (later becoming NASA) where he published 12 research reports that are still being used throughout the world to design jet engine exhaust systems. He worked for Grumman Aerospace from 1956 to his retirement in 1989 and rose to the position of chief propulsion engineer, helped design aircraft and spacecraft including the LEM (Lunar Excursion Module) and the F-14 Tomcat, in 1979 was awarded a patent for a thrust reverse nozzle for turbofan jet engines and was named Grumman Engineer of the Year. He was preceded in death by parents, Asa Carl and Myrtle Jeanette Diggins Greathouse.
Surviving: daughters, Susan Jane Davis of Fort Collins, Colo., Kathy Jean Greathouse of Jackson Heights, N.Y., Christina Lee Greathouse of Fairfax, Va.; son, William Gary Greathouse of Reston, Va.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

She retired from the Air Force and was a member of Warwich Baptist Church, Newport News, and Order of the Eastern Star.
