WESTON -- John K. Kafer, 91, of Weston died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at home after a short illness. He was a Catholic, a member of Masonic Lodge 10, Weston, three-time West Virginia ski champion, recipient of the Greenbrier Trophy and an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving: son, John G. Kafer of Weston; brother, Karl Kafer of Parkersburg, William Kafer of Weston, Rudolph Kafer of Jane Lew; several nieces and nephews. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston, with the Rev. James Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Weston Masonic Cemetery with Masonic rites by Lodge 10. RIPLEY -- Ray Richard Kay, 54, of Ripley died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in CAMC, Memorial Division, after a short illness. He was a self-employed carpenter and a Protestant. GALLIPOLIS FERRY -- Beverly Ann Lilly, 44, of Gallipolis Ferry died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant, after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Jordan Baptist Church, Gallipolis Ferry. Surviving: husband, Johnny Lilly; sons, Bradley Lilly and Johnny Lilly Jr. of Gallipolis Ferry; mother, Emma A. Henry Fisher of Gallipolis Ferry; father, Kenneth A. CRAFTON, Pa. -- Ruby A. Whiting Morford, 101, of Crafton, formerly of Spencer, W.Va., died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Pittsburgh Mercy Hospital after a short illness. She was a homemaker, past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Spencer, and a number of civic organizations. Surviving: sons, the Rev. William H. Morford of Crafton with whom she made her home, John Morford of Valdosta, Ga.; daughters, Patricia Orendorf of Germantown, Tenn., Nancy Buttimer of Reading; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jack Buttimer officiating. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. PADEN CITY -- Guy Laymond Nichols, 86, of Paden City died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in CAMC, General Division He retired from the board of First Federal Bank of Sistersville and board of directors of Paden City Public Library. He was the former president of Tyler County Commission and principal of Paden City Grade School. Surviving: wife, June Gorrell Nichols; sons, Duane Nichols of Washington, Pa., Dr. Roger Nichols of Charleston; daughters, June Elaine Morrell of Beech Bottom, Rosemary Valentine of South Charleston; brother, Lester Nichols of Alma; sisters, Juanita Whelan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Opal Morse of Buter, Pa.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Heather Lorene Saner, 23, of St. Albans, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident on U.S. 60 near Parkway Terrace in St. Albans, said a spokesmanfor the St. Albans Police Department. She attended St. Albans High School and was a graduate of West Virginia Career College. Surviving: son, Caleb Saner at home; stepfather and mother, Matt and Debbie Guthrie of St. Albans; father, Dave Saner of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Sam Saner of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandparents, Sam and Lorene Self of Louisa, Ky.; great-grandmother, Lou Thompson of Louisa. Paul R. Santrock
Dr. Paul R. "Dick" Santrock, 70, of Cross Lanes died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in CAMC, Memorial Division, after a short illness. He was a retired physician from the Cross Lanes area with 42 years of service and a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. He was a graduate of Nitro High School and West Virginia University and received a medical degree from the Indiana School of Medicine. He was an Army veteran and a member of Baptist Temple, Charleston, the church choir and various church boards and committees. Surviving: wife, Dorothy Gaylor Santrock; daughter, Anne Santrock Brewster of Winchester, Va.; son, Paul David Santrock of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Mary S. Jones of Mayfield, Ky.; brother, John F. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the Army Reserves. Surviving: wife, Regina Y. Shelton; daughter, Julia Mount Shelton at home; sons, William Kelly Shelton at home, Robert Kent Shelton of Logan; parents, Walter K. and Julia G. Shelton of Logan; sisters, Helen Mae Nagy of Hurricane, Elizabeth Yancy Bradley of Buffalo; half-sisters, Barbara Woodruff of Point Pleasant, Carolyn Counts of Logan. She was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Charleston, was the retired owner of Kut-N-Kurl Beauty Salon, St. Albans, a graduate of St. Albans High School, Charleston Beauty Academy of Cosmetology and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 79, St. Albans. Surviving: husband, Charles William Singleton; son, Ronald S. Truman of St. Albans; stepdaughters, Teresa Lou Otte of Wheeling, Gina A. He was a native of Charleston, an equipment operator for Ravenswood Aluminum and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Point Pleasant, United Steel Workers, Ravenswood, SORA, Ravenswood, and Moose Lodge 731, Point Pleasant. Surviving: wife, Vera Knapp Smith; daughter, Pamela Simpkins of Point Pleasant; son, Joe E. Smith of Point Pleasant; stepdaughter, Odean Legg of Point Pleasant; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons. Jerry Wayne Taylor Sr., 53, of Charleston, formerly of Dunbar, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at home after a long illness. He was a former Dunbar police officer, a former Kanawha County deputy sheriff and an Air Force veteran. Surviving: sons, Jerry Wayne Taylor Jr. of South Charleston, Jason Wade Taylor and Shannon Drew Taylor of Dunbar; daughters, Melissa Lynne Taylor of South Charleston, Rhiannon Nicole Taylor of Nitro; sisters, Connie White and Marsha Walker of Dunbar, Helen Campbell of Teays Valley, Vicky Washington of South Charleston; one grandson. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Goff-McClanahan Cemetery, Charleston, with the Rev. Harold B. White Jr. officiating.
