He was a graduate of West Virginia University, attended the University of Virginia, Emory and Henry University, Virginia, a member of Phi Delta Sigma fraternity, a Navy veteran, board member of the Banai-Jacob Synagogue and the Charleston Rotary Club Surviving: wife, Lillian; sons, Robert of Springfield, Va., Kenneth of Talahassee, Fla.; sister, Mickey Westrich of Hollywood, Fla.; four grandchildren Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Barlow and Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rabbi Victor Urecki officiating. POINT PLEASANT -- Loredith T. Herald Lowe, 73, of Point Pleasant died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. She was retired registrar and assistant director of admissions and records at Rio Grande College. Surviving: daughters, Millie Scarberry and Kathryn Hineman of Point Pleasant; son, Ralph Thompson of Columbus, Ohio; stepdaughter, Camille McNeil of Point Pleasant; stepsons, Steven Lowe of Spring, Texas, Robert S. He was a veteran of World War II, on active duty with the Selective Service System, acting Chief of Benefits for the West Virginia Department of Employment Security, Supervisor of Armories for the West Virginia State Armory Board, former president of the Army-Navy Club, Post Commander of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the West Virginia National Guard Association, former president of the Charleston Federal Credit Union, member of the Exchange Club of Charleston. He attended Potomac State College, Morris Harvey College and graduated from West Virginia University. Surviving: son, John B. Martin Jr of Miami, Fla. Service date will be announced. INDIANAPOLIS -- Lt. Col. Frederic L. Merchant Jr., 64, of Indianapolis died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997. He was a retired Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a Bronze Star recipient, graduated cum laude from West Virginia State College, received his master's degree in business administration from Indiana University, South Bend, was retired director of internal auditing from Wishard Memorial Hospital, Indianapolis, and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and the American Legion. Surviving: wife, Juanita Griggs Merchant; sons, Frederic L. III of Evans, Ga., Duane E.; mother, Robert Merchant of Beckley, W.Va.; brother, William S. of Beckley; sister, Doris Bradshaw of Beckley; two grandchildren. He was a retired miner from Cannelton Coal Co., a special investigator for the U.S. Department of Labor, a member of UMW, former president of AFGE Local 3181, an Army veteran of the Korean War, a Mason and a Shriner. Surviving: wife, Fannie Gorta O'Dell; sons, Carl E. of Richwood, Sidney Kurt of Summersville, James Michael of Fayetteville; daughter, Frances Price of Summersville; eight grandchildren. He was a former glassworker for Leon Glass Factory in New Jersey, and a member of Sunlight Community Church, Sissonville. Also surviving: sons, Bill Pauley of New Jersey, Ronnie Milton of Sissonville; sisters, Betsy Sue Goron of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Edna K.
