GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- Roland Reid Kelley, 59, of Goldsboro, formerly of Poca, W.Va., died Dec. 27, 1997, in Duke Medical Center. He was a retired master sergeant from the Air Force with 20 years' service. He was an employee of United Parcel Service with 19 years' service and a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Pikeville, where he was in the choir. Surviving: wife, Saundra "Sandy" Drake Kelley; daughter, Cheryl Lewis of Pikeville; son, Mark of Savannah, Ga.; brothers, Robert of Poca, William A. of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren. Rev. Albert O. Morrison
The Rev. Albert O. Morrison, 65, of Nitro, died Dec. 24, 1997, at home after a short illness. He was associate pastor of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Albans, and a retired minister for the United Methodist Church with 44 years' experience. He served as pastor of Elizabeth Memorial Methodist Church, Charleston; Stephenson United Methodist Church, Parkersburg; Montgomery United Methodist Church; Follansbee United Methodist Church; Christ Church United Methodist, Wheeling; Pine Grove United Methodist Church, and Glen Ferris United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Board of Ordained Ministers, the Board of Education and the Ministerial Association for the United Methodist Churches of West Virginia. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Charleston, and Morris Harvey College and received his bachelor's and master's degrees of divinity from Vanderbilt University. Surviving: wife, Jo A.; daughter, Tina Hunter of Nitro; son, David Morrison of Oak Hill; sister, Margaret Evens of Columbia, Mo.; five grandchildren. HUNTINGTON -- Opal G. Mann, 88, of Huntington died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at home. She was born in Kanawha County and was a retired employee of Owens Illinois Glass Co., Huntington. She served on the Tri-State O.I.C. Board, was a past member of Consumer's Association, Governor's Private Industrial Council, Cabell County Planning Commission and Silver Haired Legislature. She was nominated by the state Democratic Convention as one of the party's Presidential Electoral College members, first recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award in Huntington and the Corma A. Mowery Award from the West Virginia Education Association. She was a charter member of Democratic Women's Club of Cabell County and served on the executive board with 14 years of service. She received a Distinguished West Virginian Award in 1989 and was active for many years in AFL-CIO. She was made a member of the West Virginia Labor Hall of Fame in 1989. Surviving: nephew, Paul Mers of Chesapeake, Ohio. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Douglas Shepherd officiating. He was a retired wildlife biologist with the U.S. Forest Service with 30 years of service, and was employed by the state Division of Natural Resources with four years of service. He was a well-known local artist and designed Woodly the Elf, the mascot of the Mountain State Forest Festival. He was born in South Charleston, was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Seneca Trail Artist Guild, Isaac Walton League, and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkins. He was a graduate of West Virginia University and earned a master's degree from Colorado State University. He was a leader in the West Virginia Wildflower Pigrimage for over 30 years. Surviving: wife, Barbara Baylous Shulz; daughters, Kristy Henson of St. Albans; sister, Mary E. Husson of Hollywood, Fla.; two grandchildren.
