Floyd Lee Torrence, 88, of Charleston died Monday, July 31, 2000, at home after a long illness. He was a retired miner from Carbon Fuel with 44 years of service, a member of UMW and American Legion, an Army veteran of World War II and a graduate of Washington High School, London. Surviving: son, Tommy of Columbus, Ohio; nephew, James Hairston of Charleston; five grandchildren. Charles Frederick Turley Sr., 65, of South Charleston died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was a former employee of Harvey Shreve Ford, was retired from the National Guard and was a member of Spirit Life Church. Pauline Davis Smith Young, 85, of Charleston, died at Wednesday, Aug. 02, 2000 at Arthur B. Hodges nursing home in Charleston. She attended Hillsboro High School and Charleston General Nursing School. She was a member of the Ann Bailey Daughters of the American Revolution and past President of the Children of the American Revolution. She was a member of Central Methodist Church as well as a homemaker and active in the family business. Surviving: sons, Ralph and Richard of Charleston; one granddaughter, Kimberly Seaflerof Arlington Heights, Ill.; one great-grandson, Robert Seafler of Arlington Heights. RAYMORE, Mo. -- Robert M. Burgess Jr., 83, of Raymore, formerly of Cross Lanes, W.Va., died Monday, July 24, 2000. He was retired from the Union Carbide Tech Center. Surviving: daughter, Jan Ericson of Leawood, Kan.; grandchildren, Christina Hughes of Pattonsburg, Tara Wiley of Columbus, Miss.; three great- grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
