ATHENS, Ohio -- Mary L. Depue, 87, of Athens died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Charleston, W.Va., had attended James Madison and Marshall universities and was a former West Virginia schoolteacher. She was retired from the Athens County Welfare Department with 22 years of service. She was a member of the Athens Grange, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Athens County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. She was an elder, teacher, choir director, organist and pianist at Alexander Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer with the Athens County Historical Society.

He was the mayor of Bancroft, having served for 13 years. He was a lifelong resident of Bancroft, an operator with Elmo Greer & Sons Construction, vice president of his steelworkers union local, trustee of the Health and Welfare Fund and secretary/treasurer of the Health and Welfare Board. He was a member of the Education Organizing Board and of the Nitro Moose.

He was founder and president of Product Distributors Inc., Little Birch, a graduate of Glenville State College and a former teacher at Braxton County High School. He was a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, a former member and former chairman of the Braxton County Democratic Executive Committee, was involved in the design and construction of Braxton County Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Central West Virginia Car Club. He attended Christ Church United Methodist, Sutton.
