Joaquim M. "Jack" Azevedo, 95, of Charleston died April 8, 2001, at Meadow Brook Acres Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Veiros Estarreja, Portugal, he was a 50-year resident of Charleston and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was retired from Union Carbide and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Charleston. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Velma Patton Azevedo.
Survivors: daughters, Linda Baughman of Cross Lanes; sons, Joseph of Hurricane, Alfred of Elkview and Albert of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

ST. ALBANS -- James T. Brinkley, 80, of St. Albans, W.Va., died April 11, 2001, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston of a short illness.
He was retired from Food Haven Inc., was a member of Washington Street Church of Christ, St. Albans, was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II, and was a 36- year resident of St. Albans.
Surviving: wife, Mary E. Brinkley; sons, David Brinkley of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Mike Brinkley of Clover, S.C.; sisters, Lena Peddycord of South Charleston, W.Va., Beatrice Fudge of Jacksonville, Fla., Frances Damron of Auburn, Ala.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cunningham Memorial Park Lower Mausoleum Chapel, St. Albans, with Minister Michael Mayo officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park.

Donald D. Clark, 85, of Elkview died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at home after a short illness.
He was a former employee of E. I. DuPont and Kanawha County Board of Education and a member of Elkview Church of Christ.

HURRICANE -- Mr. Jennings Duane Cox, 71, of Hurricane, W.Va., passed away, April 11, 2001, in V.A. Hospital Huntington.
He was a retired O.T. R. Driver-Instructor with over 25 years of safety awarded professional truck driving. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Lurah "Babe" Cundiff, 91, of East Bank died April 10, 2001, at Montgomery General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a former employee of G.C. Murphy's in Montgomery and lived most of her life in East Bank. She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence Cundiff; daughters, Alma Spaulding and Ruth Cundiff; and son, Earl Cundiff.

John C. Estep
RUPERT -- John C. Estep, 69, of Rupert died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his home following a long illness.
Born October 23, 1931, at Leslie, he was a graduate of Meadow Bridge High School, Glenville State College, West Virginia University and Ohio State University. He had been a beloved teacher and/or coach at Crichton High School, Rupert High School and Greenbrier West High School at Charmco. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Sewell Valley Baptist Church in Rainelle. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jim, Bill and Charles Estep.
Survivors include his wife, June C. Jones Estep of Rupert; two sons, John C,. Estep Jr. and wife Kim of Richwood and Richard D. "Rick" Estep and wife Melissa of Rupert; two daughters, Johnetta C. Windon and husband Danny of Rainelle and Sherry Hasson and husband Lane of Roanoke, Va.; three sisters, Betty Neal of Rainelle, Nancy Bragg of Lilly Park, Rainelle, and Anna Mae St. Clair of Canton, Ohio; one brother, Ray Estep of Rainelle; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Natlie F. Fitzsimmons
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Natlie Faye Tribble Fitzsimmons, 73, of Pensacola, Fla., died April 10, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Fitzsimmons was born to Charles Stephen and Bertha Jane Hill Tribble on June 18, 1927, in Charleston. She graduated in 1945 from Poca High School. With her husband, Thomas Fitzsimmons, she moved from West Virginia to Pensacola in 1957. She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
Natlie was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband.
She is lovingly remembered by her three sons, Thomas, Bobby and Billy Fitzsimmons; her two sisters, Hazel Jividen of Dunbar and Mary Fowler of Point Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Mary L. Harbin, 91, of Charleston died April 9, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital after along illness.
She resided in the home of her daughter, Karen M. Britton, and her family. She was a member of Saint Stevens Methodist Church and a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Sharples. She was retired from the State Department of Highways. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Harbin, and one grandson, Shaquille R. Harbin.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Karen and John Britton Sr., and Virginia Harbin of Charleston; sons, Robert L. Harbin of Columbus, Ohio, and Philip Sewards of Charleston; three grandsons, Robert, Pete and Joey of Columbus; one very special granddaughter, Mary L. "Muff" Britton; one foster granddaughter, Belinda N. Davis of Charleston; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Preston Funeral Home, Charleston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. James H. Mosley officiating. Burial will be Spring Hill Cemetery.

Yvonne M. Huffman
NORFOLK, Va. -- Yvonne M. Huffman, 74, of Norfolk, Va., passed away on April 8, 2001, in her residence.
Born in Huntington, she was the widow of the late Sidney Eugene Huffman.
She is survived by her sons, Charles E. Huffman and wife Judy of Norfolk, and David L. Huffman and wife Lynn of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Sheri Krehlik and husband Michael of Ohio, Geanine Bullock and husband Andrew, and Brian Huffman, both of Virginia Beach; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Keaton and Nash.
On Thursday, the family will gather at the West Virginia Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes one-half hour before funeral service.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Myrtle Etta Hurd
RAVENSWOOD -- Myrtle Etta Hurd, 94, of Ravenswood died April 10, 2001, at the Ravenswood Rest Home.
Born on April 13, 1906, in Hereford, she was a homemaker, a member of the North United Methodist Church, Ravenswood, and was formerly active in the Ravenswood Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6669, where she was a Gold Star Mother, and wasthe oldest living Navy Mother in Jackson County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verner Hurd; sons, Charles Everette Hurd, who was killed in Vietnam, and Pearl Lee Hurd; five brothers; four sisters; and two sons-in-law.
She is survived by two daughters, Elsie Lanham of Romance and Mary Ott of Sandyville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.

Frank Dana Jones Jr.
Frank Dana Jones Jr., 84, of Charleston passed away April 10, 2001, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Hospital, after a long illness.
He was a retired millwright for E. I Dupont, Belle, with 42 years service. He was a member and former deacon of Kanawha Salines Presbyterian Church, Malden. He was also a member of Salina Masonic Lodge #27 A. F. & A. M. and the York Rite. He was also a World War II POW Army Veteran.
Surviving: daughters, Nanetta Jones and Roseanna Jones Bell, both of Charleston; sisters, Margaret A. Jones and Jetta B. Jones of Malden and Phyllis J. Ballard of Charleston; two nieces, one great nephew; and one great-niece.
There will be no visitation.

RIPLEY -- Mable E. Kiser, 98, of Ripley died Wednesday, April 10, 2001, at Eldercare in Ripley.
She had enjoyed a long and healthy life until this past year. She went where there's no more pain and sorrow, to join her savior; her husband, Hoyt K. Kiser; sons, Richard and Ray Kiser; and her daughter, Mary Turnage.
She was born February 16, 1903, at Charleston. She attended Ripley Tabernacle Church, was a homemaker and raised nine children on a farm at Kentuck.
She is survived by two sons, James and wife Phyllis Kiser of Kentuck, and Charles and wife Bernie of Cleveland, Ohio; four daughters, Betty Cummings, Nellis and husband Okey Parsons of Aplin Ridge, Maxine Chapman of Akron, Ohio, and Geniveve and husband Junior Randolph of Ripley; 23 grandchildren; 50 great- grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

He was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Beckley, W.Va. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, was retired from Union Oil Co. of California.
He was preceded in death by Patty Loflin, his wife of 43 years.

KATY, Texas -- Thomas Dewie Lowers Sr., 54, of Katy, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001, after a courageous battle with diabetes.
He was a four-year patient of the Westminster Dialysis Center. Dewie was born June 23, 1946, in South Charleston.
He is survived by sons, Thomas Dewie Lowers Jr. and Erick Christopher Lowers, both of Katy; parents, Thomas Houston and Dora Katherine Lowers Jr.; sister, Cheryl D. Ashley of Katy; brother, Larry Lowers and his wife, Patty, of Missouri City, Mo.; and nieces, Jamie Nicole and Jennifer Michelle Ashley.

SEBASTIAN, Fla. -- June Eades Pennington, 79, of Sebastian, Fla., died April 10, 2001, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach, Fla., following a brief illness.
She was born June 1, 1921, in Ansted, W.Va. She had been a resident of Sebastian for 20 years, moving from Bel Air, Md. Mrs. Pennington was a homemaker and had attended First United Methodist Church in Sebastian.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Herbert Pennington; three daughters, Linda Adams of Ellicott City, Md., Patty Gentry of Sebastian and Diane Matrangola of Street, Md.; son, Lee Pennington of Street; sisters, Thelma Nuckols of St. Petersburg, Fla., Hazel Crist of Ansted, Emily Norford of Fayetteville, W.Va., Virginia Lee Crane of Oak Hill, W.Va., Geneva Parsons of Bel Air, Md., and Bessie Skaggs of Franklin, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

WEBSTER SPRINGS -- Madeline Perrine, 77, of Webster Springs, W.Va. died April 11, 2001, in Cowen, W.Va., following an extended illness.
She lived her life in Webster County and worked at many local businesses as a store clerk and waitress. She was a Christian and a member of Elk Valley Chapel in Cherry Falls. In her later years, she provided love and care for many children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harrison McCourt; her mother, Flora Belle Green McCourt; a daughter, Eleanor Grace Perrine; 16 brothers and nine sisters.
She is survived by: daughters, Katie Dilley of Webster Springs and Debbie Perrine of Mobile, Ala.; brothers, Carl McCourt and Gene McCourt of Webster Springs; grandson, Jason Dilley of Mobile, Ala.
