She is survived by four daughters, Glenna Burnett of Hamlin, Elnora Vititoe of Franklin, Ind., Norma Watson of Indianapolis, Ind., Donna Adkins of Ashland, Ky.; one son, Hugh N. White Jr. of Hamlin; one sister, Avis White of Hamlin; 13 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Steven Edward Bailey
BEVERLY - Steven Edward Bailey, 18, of Beverly, departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, as a result of a drowning accident in Barbour County.
He was born Dec. 20, 1983, in Elkins, a son of R. J. "Buzz" Bailey and Linda Gilkeson Bailey of Beverly. Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Carla Adkins of Rainelle; three brothers, Marcus Bailey and his wife, Michele of Orlando, Fla., Jason Bailey of Elkins and Bradley Bailey at home; a sister, Tonya Shreve of Columbus, Ohio; two nieces, Morgan Vance and Kyatt Bailey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Also preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Gilkeson; and paternal grandparents, John and Opal Bailey.
Steven was a recent graduate of George Washington High School in Charleston and was enrolled at West Virginia University for the fall semester. Following his graduation from high school, he enrolled in the Marine Corps Reserves Boot Camp at Parris Island, S.C., where he received his tan belt in martial arts and had become a platoon leader. Due to physical problems, he was forced to leave camp early and had planned to return next year.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randall Brake officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Steven E. Bailey Memorial Fund, Route 1, Box 139B-2, Beverly, WV 26253. These contributions will be forwarded by the Bailey family to local search and rescue units which aided in the search for Steven.
The family would like to thank Mark, Sara, Paul and Jamie Scott of Charleston, who were Steven's second family and all the special people God put in Steven's life to watch over him and keep him safe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles S. and Dulcie Lowe Cottrell; a sister, Emoneal Davis; and a son-in-law, John Reynolds II.
Survivors include her husband, Walter E. Davis; daughter, Judy Reynolds of Nitro; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Regina Davis of Georgetown, Ohio; brother, Gale Cottrell of Highland, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Neil Eldon Hewitt, 75, of Richwood, died July 31, 2002, at home after a short illness.
He was a son of the late Gertrude Bostic Hewitt and Audie R. Hewitt. He was a former manager of Hewitt Motors Inc. of Richwood, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richwood, a member of the Richwood Rotary Club, a 32nd Degree Mason and a World War II Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Hewitt.
He is survived by his son, Jack, daughter-in-law, Meg, and grandson, Mathew of Lewisburg; and by his son, Gary, daughter-in-law, Katy, and grandchildren, Carrie, Jay and Alison of Richwood. He is also survived by his brother, Clair, and sister-in-law, Ellen of Richwood; his sister, June and brother-in-law, Edgar Smith of Buckhannon; and his sister, Dorothy Messersmith, also of Buckhannon.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood with Father Jerome Rawa officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Park, Richwood.

James Holstein, "Jimmy Adkins," 51, of Hernshaw, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston after a short illness.
He attended Rumble Community Baptist Church and Morning Star House of Prayer, Ridgeview. He was a disabled coal miner from Southern Appalachian Coal Co., Bull Creek. He was a member of the UMWA.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Holstein of Hernshaw; son, Ricky at home; stepsons, George Jr. of Parkersburg, Jimmy of Parkersburg, David of Marmet; stepdaughter, Teresa Holstein of Ritchie County; sisters, Billie Jo Harris of Tennessee, Brenda Thornton of Flatwoods, Debbie Cox of Nellis. He had nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Laymon F. Johnson, 88, of Hurricane died Aug. 1, 2002, at home after a long illness.
He retired from H.R. Porter Steel Mill of Huntington. He was president of the Local Union 37. He was member of the Mount Moriah Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Cleasby O. Johnson; sons, Charles Johnson of Teays Valley, Kurtis Johnson of Missouri, Jeffrey Johnson of Poca, and Kemron Johnson of Georgia; daughter, Letha Johnson of Huntington; brothers, Leslie Johnson of Hurricane and Willard Johnson of Ohio; sister, Wynona Smith of Huntington; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Mount Moriah Church in Hurricaen with the Rev. Mark Hesson officiating. Burial will be held at Mount Moriah Cemetery.

WARREN, Ohio - Mr. Jimmie B. King, 56, of Warren, Ohio, died July 31, 2002, at home.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1945, to the late Fuller and Pribble King in Clay County.
He was a 1963 graduate of Clay County High School. He left Clay County after graduation and moved to Warren. He has been employed at Delphi Packard Electric for the past 34 years as a truck drive. He was an avid golfer and a Cleveland Indians fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Cody, Samuel, and Roy; and one sister, Zelma.
Survivors include his twin sons, Steven K. King of Parkersburg and Brian E. King of Warren; his love, Cherie Charlton of Warren; brothers, Kermit King of Boliver, Ohio, Oscar King of Procious, Lloyd King of Dunbar and Jackie King of Williamstown, Mich.; sisters, Janie Carson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kitty Strub of Brandon, Miss.
Services were held in Warren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the Daubenspeck Cemetery, Maysel.
There will be no visitation.

Elsie M. Miller Knight
ROSEDALE - Elsie M. Miller Knight, 86, of Rosedale went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2002, following an extended illness. She was residing at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale.
She was born in Braxton County on Feb. 14, 1916, the daughter of the late James L. and Eliza Dunlap Putman.
Mrs. Knight was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the Gassaway Hospital, Gassaway, W.Va. She was a member of the Charity Baptist Church, Wilsie, W.Va., and was a charter member of the Braxton County EMS.
Also preceding her in death were her husbands, Johnie Miller and Mack Knight; three sons, Orville, Glen and Johnie Jr. Miller; and one daughter, Goldie Miller Frame.
She is survived by two sons, Frank Miller and wife, Carolyn of Rosedale, W.Va., and Johnnie Dale Miller and wife, Marla of Frametown, W.Va.; three brothers, Robert Putman of Pennsylvania, Bernard Putman of Ohio and James Edward Putman of Ohio; one sister, Gertrude Lamp of Ohio; eight grandchildren, David Miller, Dennis Miller and Rhonda Jodway of Michigan, Molly McLaughlin of Glenville, Micky Miller of Rosedale, Jimmie Miller of Indiana, Jamie Miller of Frametown and Donna Cox of Glenville; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three stepsons, Elmer Knight of Ohio, James Knight of Cowen, W.Va., and Walter Knight of Sutton, W.Va.; seven stepdaughters, Evalee Miller of Gassaway, Edna Evans of Ohio, Goldie Gross of Ohio, Ruth Gross of Sutton, Lorene Lewis of Ohio, Lucille Justice of Ohio, Violet Marcum of Ohio; and 24 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Rosedale United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Knob Cemetery near Rosedale. FAYETTEVILLE - Bettie Wood Mahan, 70, of Fayetteville died at her home Thursday, Aug. 01, 2002, following a brief illness.
Born April 11, 1932, at Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late E.B. and Jessie Hurt Wood.
Mrs. Mahan attended Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church, Hico. She was a former Juvenile Probation Officer for Fayette County and a homemaker. She was an actie member of the Fayette County Humane Society and the Fayette County Library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kerr Mahan on March 17, 1992; and her son, Frank Kerr Mahan Jr.; one brother, E.B., "Monk" Wood; and one sister, Marjorie Selby.
Survivors include her son, Charles E. Mahan of Fayetteville; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2 pm. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with the Rev. Randy Housh and Jim Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow immediately.

Keith Mathes, 51, of Hurricane died July 31, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long battle with diabetes.
He was a 1969 graduate of Nitro High School. He was employed for 25 years as a pipefitter with Union Carbide Construction and Brown & Root Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Genny of Hurricane; mother, Mary Landers Mathes of Nitro; son, Anthony Mathes of Fraziers Bottom; sisters, Sharon Henderson of Beckley, Robin Humphreys of Nitro; niece, April Henderson of Beckley; nephew, Zachary Humphreys of Nitro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Mathes.

Marguerite Jane Mycoff
Marguerite Jane Metzger Mycoff, 81, of Summersville, formerly of Charleston, died July 31, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
A retired nursery school teacher, she was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Marguerite Allen and Elmer Metzger. For over 60 years, she was active in the Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Walter J. Mycoff Sr.; three children, The Rev. Walter J. Mycoff Jr., Ms. Joyce M. Egnor and Dr. David A. Mycoff; a brother, MR. Elmer A. Metzger; a sister, Ms. Betty Priestly; five grandchildren, Ms. Jessica M. Savasta, Mr. James K. Egnor III, Ms. .Rebecca M. Pummill, Ms. Nadia E. Mycoff and Ms. Laura E. Davison; and two great-grandchildren, Hope Savasta and Kaiden Pummill.
Services will be at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Summersville at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and at St. Mathew's Episcopal Church in Charleston at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
