Gordon A. Sheets
Gordon A. Sheets, 79, of Kenna departed this life Oct. 15, 2002, at his home following a long illness.
He was born August 6, 1923, at Dawes, son of the late Roscoe and Estella Beverlyn Sheets.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Timmy Boggess, and two brothers, Romie and Edsel Sheets.
He was a retired construction worker, member of the Christian Fellowship Outreach Church, Kenna, and attended Bethany Freewill Baptist Church on Jenkins Drive. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He is survived by his wife, Luda Casto Sheets; daughters, Kay Casto of Canton, Ohio, Burna Boggess, Estella Jeffery and Cathy Lanham, all of Kenna, and beloved son-in-laws; sons, Ronald Sheets of Dry Branch, Steven Sheets of Gallagher, the Rev. Arnold Sheets of Charleston, Kenneth Sheets of Kenna, and beloved daughter-in-laws; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leslie Sheets of Ripley, Harley Sheets of Giles; a host of family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Pocatalico, with the Rev. David Mitchell and the Rev. Arnold Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatlico.

Raymond Tramontano
Raymond Tramontano, 64, of Racine, formerly of East Haven, Conn., died Oct. 15, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was retired from the town of North Haven, Conn. He was a member of the Charleston Moose Club #1444, American Legion Post 110 of Port Charlotte, Fla. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Workman and Nikki McCord, both of Seth; son, Tim Tramontano of Seth; sister, Lorraine Appi of East Haven, Conn.; brothers, Art Tramontano of North Haven, Conn., Ritchie Tramontano of New Haven, Conn., Sal Tramontano of Port Charlotte, Fla.; seven grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, with the Rev. Bart Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Marmet Cemetery, Marmet, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8366, Gauley Bridge.

A memorial service will also be held at a later date in North Haven, Conn.
Richard E. Yost
Richard E. Yost, 69, of St. Albans died Oct. 16, 2002, at home.
He was a retired West Virginia State Trooper with 23 years' service. He was a graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy and was also a former St. Albans Police Chief. He was a member of Bible Center Church, Charleston, where he served on the Deacon Board and the Elder Board. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora Anne Yost of St. Albans; son, David Yost of South Charleston; daughter, Mary Williams of Delaware, Ohio; grandson, Brice Williams of Delaware, Ohio; granddaughter, Breanna Williams of Delaware, Ohio; brother, Dale Yost of Romney; sisters, Eva Carlucci of Timonium, Md., Judy Whitney of Joppa, Md.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Bible Center Church, Charleston, with the Rev. Shawn Thornton, the Rev. Jesse Waggoner and the Rev. David Jones officiating.

Julia Gertrude Hunter Barnhill
Julia Gertrude Hunter Barnhill of Elkview, born Sept 23, 1912, went to be with our Lord Nov. 3, 2002.
She was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Gillis Hunter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Robert Barnhill; son, William Edward Barnhill; sisters, Lena McAllister, Mildred Parker, Anna Gall, Hannah McDonald and Ruby Clark; and brothers, John and Thomas Hunter.
Mrs. Barnhill was a loving wife and devoted mother of six children.
Mrs. Barnhill leaves to celebrate her life sons, James Ronald Barnhill of Poca, Robert Lee Barnhill of Lakewood, Ohio, Larry Eugene Barnhill of Huntington; daughters, Patricia Elizabeth Brown of Raleigh, N.C., Carol Lynn Barnhill of Elkview; grandchildren, Ginger Lee Marshall of Sanford, Fla., William Edward Barnhill of Clermont, Fla., Scott Alan Barnhill of Sanford, Fla., Diana Lynn Gunter of Apex, N.C., Michelle Gwen Bruner of Cary, N.C., First Lt. Charles L. Carpenter Jr., 57, of Hansford departed this life Nov. 1, 2002, in St. Francis Hospital after a short illness.
He was born July 6, 1945, in Hansford, a son of the late Charles Sr. and Josephine Fisher Carpenter.
He was a 1964 graduate of East Bank High School and had worked for Swans Cleaners, Freeman Cleaners and Millers Grocery. He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, Hansford.
He is survived by his stepmother, Jean Carpenter of Bluefield; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Ronald King of Tampa, Fla.; half brother and sister-in-law, James D. "J.D." and Lisa Carpenter of Bluefield; aunts, Phyllis Miller and Myrtle Higley and her husband, Mike, all of Hansford; and several cousins.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Church of the Good Shepherd, Hansford, with the Rev. Stan Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

Clyde Case
Clyde Case, 92, of Nitro, formerly of Duck, W.Va., died Nov. 4, 2002, at home in Nitro, W.Va.
He was born July 19, 1910, in Duck, W.Va., the son of the late William Butler and Rhuemma Facemire Case. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Nell Belcher Case, who died in 1998.
Mr. Case was a retired carpenter. He was known for his story-telling, love of music and basket-making. He was a member of Villanova Baptist Church, Duck, W.Va.
He is survived by one son, David Case of Nitro; caregiver, Minnie Case of Nitro; two daughters, Joan Case Turley of Kinston, N.C., Mary Ellen Duffield of Gassaway, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Villanova Baptist Church, Duck, W.Va., with Pastor Mark Gerwig officiating. Burial will be in the Case family cemetery on Laurel Fork, Duck, W.Va.

Jesse Willard "Jack" Clay
Jesse Willard "Jack" Clay, 36, of Blount died Nov. 2, 2002, of injuries received in an auto accident.
Mr. Clay was a painter for Top Rung Painting Contractors and was a member of Big Bottom Baptist Church, Campbells Creek.
He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Clay; and a brother, Timothy Joe Carte.
He is survived by his former wife, Melissa Clay of Cinco; son, Jesse Aaron Clay; stepson, Shawn Kidd; and stepdaughter, Page Kidd, all of Cinco; his mother, Daisy Johnson of Blount; brothers, Harold Larry Carte of Blount, Charles Lloyd Carte of Monroe, N.C., Keith W. Johnson of Tad; sisters, Connie Lynn Carte of Blount, Vanessa Booth of Apex, N.C.; uncles, Tom Clay, Garland Flowers, Harlan Flowers, Paul Flowers and Bill Clay; aunts, Madge Shamblin, Patsy Taylor, Phyllis Young; nephews, Chuck and Andrew Carte; niece, Heather Carte; several cousins.

Leonard Combs
HUNTERSVILLE - Leonard Combs, 87, of Huntersville died Nov. 4, 2002, at his home with his family.
He was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Kistler, the son of the late John and Emmer Burgess Combs. He was also preceded in death by a son, Leonard "Lenny" Combs II; and brothers, Andy and Sturgal.
He was raised in Man where he and his father operated The Man Smokehouse, a family restaurant. In 1941, after working with his father, Leonard signed with the U.S. Army and was sent to the Philippine Islands to fight in World War II. After returning home in 1945, Leonard had various jobs throughout his life, includein working for International Shoe Company and retiring as a coal miner from S.S. Joe Burford Inc. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Huntersville.
He is survived by his wife, Hallie Abdella Combs; daughter, Laura Ann Combs of Huntersville; son, John Michael Combs of Huntersville; sister, Edith Combs Thompson of Man; nephews, Frank Combs and Sidney Thompson, both of Man.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton, with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Randy White officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Huntersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. "Buster" Jividen; her son, Ernest Caroll Jividen; her parents, Grover and Rebecca Wilbourn Cox; and her sister, Valley Cox.

Erma Skeen Jones, 84, of Sissonville died Nov. 4, 2002, at home.
She was a former employee of Cunningham Dry Cleaners, attended Grapevine Primitive Advent Christian Church, Sissonville, and taught Sunday school at Fisher Memorial Church and Victory Primitive Advent Christian Church.
Erma was preceded in death by her husbands, Ray Skeen and Herbert E. Jones.
She is survived by her caregivers, Richard and E.W. Spencer of Dunbar; stepsons, Ray Jones of Sissonville, Richard Jones of Charleston, Ronald Jones of Hamlin; stepdaughter, Ruth Cunningham of Charleston; brother, Orville Spencer of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister, Ruby Wolfe of Tallahassee, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

BOMONT - Gail Hilton "Windy" Jones, 76, of Bomont died Nov. 4, 2002, at his residence after a short illness.
He was a retired timber contractor from Carbon Fuel and was of the Baptist faith.

Gladys Lucille McIntyre
COTTAGEVILLE - Gladys Lucille McIntyre, 81, of Cottageville departed this life suddenly Nov. 4, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 26, 1921, on Cow Run, a daughter of the late Hosea Jackson and Nancy Cathorine Sayre Shinn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth G. McIntyre; brothers, Roy and Clark Lee; and a sister, Olive.
She was an active fund-raising volunteer for the construction of Jackson General Hospital, a member of the Jackson County Democrats Club and she was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Ripley Band Boosters for 17 years and was very involved with the music ministry for nursing homes in Ripley and Ravenswood. She was co-owner and operator of McIntyre Welding, Ripley, for more than 50 years and was a former rivet maker at Martin Aircraft, Baltimore, Md., during World War II. She was the organizer of the Cow Run Days reunion for 19 years. She was a Christian and ministered through her music at several local churches.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Skip Hackworth and Dorman and Frank Hughes, all of Cottageville, Marsha and Scott Goodrich of Millwood; brothers, Woodrow Shinn of McCutchenville, Ohio, Daniel Shinn of Nitro, Darrell Shinn of Tiffin, Ohio, Arnold Shinn of Bluffton, Ohio; sisters, Naomi Sayre of Evans, Margaret Hill of Mount Alto, Clara Blanche Yentzer of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Matt Hackworth, Glen Hughes, Joshua Hughes, Georgia Hughes, Mary Goodrich and Andrew Goodrich; great-granddaughter, Sadie Hackworth.

Francis O. Ramsey
Francis O. Ramsey, 84, of Charleston died Nov. 3, 2002, at home.
He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Nicholas County and was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ramsey.
He served during World War II and was retired from the DuPont Plant, Belle, with 36 years of service.
Surviving are sons, James and Donald Ramsey, both of Charleston; sister, Helen Johnson of Nitro.
In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, the body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University.
A memorial service at West Virginia University will be held at a later date.
Harry A. Redfield
Harry A. Redfield, 75, of Charleston passed away Nov. 4, 2002, in CAMC General Hospital.
He was a retired teacher from the elementary school in Barstow, Calif. He had lived in Charleston for the past three years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a longtime friend of Bill W.
He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Redfield; and his sister, Priscilla Nancarrow.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Redfield of Charleston; three children, Kerry Stapp of Barstow, Calif., Julie Young of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Keith Redfield of San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren, Tracey Stapp, Kristy Stapp, Adam Redfield, Rachel Redfield, Charlotte Young, Kara Young, Jimmy Young and Amelia Redfield.
Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, with Dr. Fred Bannerot officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.

BAY TREE LAKES, N.C. - Raymond E. Robertson, 76, a longtime resident of Hurricane, W.Va., died Nov. 3, 2002.
He retired to Bay Tree Lakes, N.C., after a lengthy career at Union Carbide's Institute Plant. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown, N.C.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Robertson; his daughter, Jill Robertson Grant and her husband, Timothy, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; brothers, Herbert Robertson of Teays Valley, W.Va., James Robertson of Hurricane, John Robertson of Cliffwood Beach, N.J.
