Harry H. Parsons
RIPLEY - Harry H. Parsons, 82, of Ripley died Nov. 11, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
He was born Dec. 1, 1919, on the famiily farm at Frozen Camp, son of the late Homer H. and Eula Board Parsons. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Casto and Anita Kessel; and one brother, Ernest Parsons.
He graduated from Ripley High School in 1938, upon graduation from West Virginia University in 1942 received his B.S. degree, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and received his orders to report to active military duty, while at West Virginia University was a four-year ROTC member and a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He served four years in World War II, rising to the rank of captain. During this period, he served in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning to Ripley after World War II, he worked for Pinnell and Pfost Lumber Company and was a member of the local Army Reserve unit. In 1951 he was recalled to active duty for the Korean War where he served two additional years. He then served 12 years as office manager for AEP's Phillip Sporn Mining Operations in New Haven. He was a retired Ripley businessman, where he owned and operated the Western Auto Store for 20 years.
He was active with the Ripley Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, serving as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 103. He served the city of Ripley as a member of city council, and was elected city recorder for several terms. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the WVU Alumni Association and Greenhills Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Pfost Parsons of Ripley; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Betty Parsons of Ripley, Pat and Debora Mattingly of Charleston; daughter, Dona "Dede" Saffer of Hillsboro; sister, Dorothy Hamon of St. Albans; grandchildren, Chip Parsons of San Diego, Calif., Mike Parsons of Charlottesville, Va., Matt Parsons of Lexington, Ky., Casey Parsons of Duluth, Ga., Bernie Parsons of Ripley, step grandson, Garrett Stearns of Ripley, Patrick Saffer of Morgantown, Shannon Saffer of Hillsboro, Nathan Parsons of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Epworth United Methodist Church, North and Church Streets, Ripley, with the Rev. Dr. Ken Krimmel officiating. Burial will bein Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Hazel A. Persinger
POCA - Hazel A. Persinger, 98, of Poca went home to be with the Lord Nov. 10, 2002, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.
Mrs. Persinger was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a member of Hometown Senior Citizens and Black Betsy United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Persinger; and three sons, Robert, Ralph and Clyde.
She is survived by three daughters, Reba Tucker of Pliney, Helen Jett of Avon Lake, Ohio, Rosalie Perkins of Oregon, Ohio; one son, Charles Persinger of Culloden; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Black Betsy Community Church with Pastor Carl Arthur officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Luvirgie Rowlands
Luvirgie Rowlands, 75, of Charleston died Nov. 9, 2002, in SunBridge Nursing Home, Putnam County.
She was born in Charleston.
She worked as a waitress at the Greyhound Bus Terminal and the Daniel Boone Hotel.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Dottie Thomas of Charleston; one grandson, Phillip Thomas Jr. of Charleston; her ex-daughter-in-law and dearest friend, Judy Thomas of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Chance Mikeal Jon Russell
Chance Mikeal Jon Russell, 6-month-old son of Katie Russell, left our world Nov. 9, 2002, to take his place with God in Heaven.
Although he was only with us much to short a time, he brought love, joy and happiness to all who knew and loved him. He will be missed by all.
Preceding Chance to Heaven was his great-uncle and namesake, Jon Pence.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving grandfather, Ed Russell; grandmother, Lynn Russell; uncle, Eddie Russell of Iowa; great-grandmother, Kay Pence; great-uncle, Frank Russell; great-aunt, Dauna Richmond; great-uncle, Jay Richmond; great-aunt, Cindy Allen; great-uncles, Mark, Greg and Joe Pence; great-great-aunt Virginia Cassab; godparents, Larry and Kathy Adkins; and many cousins.

Virginia E. "Jane" Stover
SEBRING, Fla. - Virginia E. "Jane" Stover, 79, of Sebring, Fla., passed away Nov. 9, 2002.
Mrs. Stover was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Bluefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late Mack C. and Mary E. Shinault Harry.
She had been a resident of Sebring since 1985, moving from West Palm Beach, Fla. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Episcopal Church, Sebring.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert C. "Smoke" Stover of Sebring; son, Glenn Stover of San Francisco, Calif.; foster children, Jim and Ruth Dubberly of Sebring; grandchildren, Chris and Kalani.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Agnes Episcopal Church, Sebring, with the Rev. Jim Kurtz officiating.

Gladys Blankenship Sullivan
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Gladys Blankenship Sullivan, 85, of Charleston, S.C., formerly of Lockwood and Summersville, W.Va., died Nov. 10, 2002, in Oak Haven Assisted Living, Charleston, S.C.
Born May 18, 1917, at Quinwood, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Abe and Lydia Owens Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Bailey Blankenship and Charles Sullivan.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Blankenship of St. Petersburg, Fla., James Blankenship of Shippensburg, Pa.; two daughters, Sandra Bird of Ridgeville, S.C., Jenny Lewis of Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Fairview Baptist Church, Lockwood, W.Va., with the Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London, W.Va.

Edmond Grover Withrow
YOAKUM, Texas - Edmond Grover Withrow, 95, of Yoakum, Texas, died Nov. 9, 2002.
Born Dec. 7, 1906, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Fred and Maude Scraggs Withrow. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Francis Mastin Withrow; and two brothers, Carl and Howard Withrow.
Mr. Withrow was a retired civil engineer employed by Ashland Oil & Refining Company.
Survivors include two daughters, Carma Lee Devers and Jean Griffith, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one son, Mike Withrow of Yoakum; and one grandchild.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery, Yoakum, with the Rev. Gary Goodson officiating.

Elouise F. Wolf
LEON - Elouise F. Wolf, 64, of Leon passed away Nov. 10, 2002, at home following a short illness.
She was very loving and supportive to her family and was a special wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a retired cook from the Kanawha County School Board where whe was the head cook at Cross Lanes Elementary School.
She was always giving and will be missed very much by family and friends. Her husband loved her more than life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy Menninger Null.
Survivors include her husband, Kermit Wolf; sons, Jeff Wolf of Cross Lanes, Steve Wolf of Leon; brothers, Delano Null of Van Buren, Ark., Fravel Null of Paden City, David Null of Cross Lanes; grandsons, Tyler and Jarrod Wolf of Charleston.

He was an auto mechanic and attended Pinnacle Block Church, Julian.

He is survived by his wife, Cosby "Libby" Angel of Julian; one son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Tina Angel of Julian; two grandsons, Shawn Caleb and James Logan Angel; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sue Angel of Julian; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Leon Robinson of Lake, Janet and Bill Hager of Orient, Ohio, Madelyn and Mike Stauffer of Sunberry, Ohio; and many relatives and friends.

Goldie Beatrice Barker, 88, formerly of Costa and a lifelong resident of Boone County, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 11, 2002.
She was a resident of Marmet Health Care and a member of Brushton United Methodist Church.
Goldie was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Cavender; father, Lorenzo Kinder; husband, James Truman Barker; son, James Eugene Barker; sisters, Helen Kinder, Vernie Peters, Reba Hayzlett, Margaret Prillerman; and brother, Curtis Kinder.
Goldie is survived by one brother, William Kinder of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Betty Brown of San Diego, Calif.; five children, Jack Barker Sr. of Cross Lanes, Darrell and Donald Barker, both of Avon, Ind, Frances Chapman of Dania, Fla., Carol Sandidge of Newport News, Va.; nine grandchildren, Diana Haid of West Virginia, Jack Barker Jr. of North Carolina, Gerald Barker of Texas, David and Terry Barker and Pam Copas, all of Indiana, Dusty Barker of West Virginia, Mark Gillespie of Florida, Travis Justice of Virginia; nine great-grandchildren, Jason Elliott of West Virginia, Criss and Rylie Barker, both of Texas, Logan and Morgan Barker and Jordan and Megan Copas, all of Indiana, Carressia and Cameron Justice, both of Virginia. Goldie's great-great-granddaughter is to be born in January 2003.

Homer F. Bragg
GASSAWAY - Homer F. Bragg, 77, of Gassaway, W.Va., formerly of Little Birch, W.Va., died Nov. 11, 2002, in Braxton County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Webster County, the son of the late James W. and Goldie Malcomb Bragg. Also preceding him in death were his two wives, Delores Skeens Bragg and Chloe B. Jackson Bragg; stepson, Elmer R. Freeman; stepdaughter, Betty L. Groves; two brothers, Floyd and Harry Bragg; and two sisters, Ethel Roberts and Nina Roberts.
Mr. Bragg was a retired merchant and former owner of Bragg General Store, Little Birch, W.Va. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was a Protestant.
He is survived by one son, Hazel Jr. Bragg of Columbus, Ohio; three stepsons, Odis R. and Robert L. Freeman, both of Sutton, James W. Freeman of Little Birch; one brother, Donald Bragg of Cowen; one sister, Eilene Wayne of Cowen; three grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton. Burial will be in the Bragg Cemetery, Boggs, W.Va.

Claude Breeding Jr.
Claude Breeding Jr., 33, of St. Albans died Nov. 11, 2002, in CAMC General Hospital after a long illness.
Born Sept. 19, 1969, in Chicago, Ill., he was the beloved son of Rebecca Holley Breeding of St. Albans and Claude Breeding Sr. of Dunedin, Fla.
He was a Nazarene and a disabled construction worker. He was dearly loved by his family and was a loving and devoted father.
In addition to his loving and devoted parents, he is survived by his wife, Jessica; his children, Holley, Christopher, Hayley, Jacob and Hanna; his brother, Scott Alan Breeding of St. Albans; his sister, Michelle Worley of Culpeper, Va., several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

John William "Bill" Brothers
ODESSA, Texas - John William "Bill" Brothers of Odessa went to be with the Lord Nov. 6, 2002.
Born July 28, 1924, in Logan, W.Va., he was the son of the late Cmdr. Paul L. and Kathleen C. Brothers. He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul T. Brothers; and sisters, Frances Thomas and Patricia Huey.
He graduated from St. Albans High School. He had three years service with the Navy, one year on the USS Key DE-348 before graduating from Marshall University with a BS degree. He volunteered his accounting skills for various organizations including the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, Odessa, of which he was a member.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel; daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Ernie Fischer; two granddaughters, Kathleen and Marianne of Palmdale, Calif.; his daughter-in-law, Sheila Brothers of Brocton, Ill.; sisters, Betty Hoover of Huntington, Dorothy Echols of St. Albans; aunt, Jeanne Childers of Huntington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the mausoleum in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington.

Francis Chandler
Francis Chandler, 86, of Charleston passed away Nov. 12, 2002, at her residence after a long illness.
She was born in Kansas.
She was a retired teacher and taught cosmetology in Las Vegas. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
She is survived by her friends and caregivers, Delores "Dee" Walker, Constance Walker and Pam Fields, all of Charleston.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
