Charles D. "Jim" Ellis
Charles D. "Jim" Ellis, 79, of Cedar Grove died Nov. 11, 2002, at The Haven in Cedar Grove after a long illness.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Jim was a former construction worker for the UMWA where he worked as a brick- and stonemason. He was also a disabled member of the UMWA.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran and was a recipient of the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was former commander of the Witcher VFW Post, Witcher. He was a charter member of the Upper Kanawha Valley Medical Center, Cedar Grove, and a member of the Cedar Grove Town Council for eight years. He was also chosen as Young Democrat.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Violet Marie Nadji of Savannah, Ga.; stepdaughters, Barbara Spears of Madison, Patty Lynn Tennant and Susan Sharps, both of Charleston; brother, Stacy of Cedar Grove; sisters, Louise Johnson of Scott Depot, Annabel Day of Shrewsbury, Ramona Leedy of Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, with Pastor Gary Tucker and the Rev. Bill Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, with military rites by Gauley Bridge VFW Post 8366.

Helen Hart
FOSTER - Helen Hart, 67, of Foster, Boone County, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 12, 2002, at her home, with family and friends by her side.
Born July 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Ella C. Gillispie. Mrs. Hart was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hart; and by her son, Ronald Hart.
Mrs. Hart was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Ella Jarrell of Foster; brother, Gerry Gillispie of Grand Prairie, Texas; sister, Brookline Perdue of Foster; grandchildren, Sheila Gillispie of Leetonia, Ohio, Loren Price of Uneeda, Daniel Price of Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchidren, Nicholas Price of Uneeda, Adam Price of Knoxville, Tenn.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, with Dr. Boyd Purcell officiating. Burial will follow in the Perdue Cemetery, Foster.

Ellestene Frances Johnson
Ellestene Frances Johnson, 82, of Rand passed away Nov. 10, 2002, at home following a long illness.
She was a homemaker and was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parenst, Sam and Ida Henson; a sister, Marion Chambers; and a brother, Everett "Sam" Henson.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 59 years, Lewis Johnson; son, Dale Johnson; daughter-in-law, Teresa Johnson; grandson, Dale "D.J." Johnson; sister, Hazel Barbour; brother-in-law, William "Billy" Barbour; foster sons, William Morton and Denver Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Carl W. Renick officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Vivian Joyce Queen Liptok, 57, of Gallagher died Nov. 11, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 21, 1945, in Sewell, Fayette County, the daughter of Margaret L. Queen of Danese and the late Harry Queen.
She was a supervisor in the Revocation Department of the Division of Motor Vehicles.
Her survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Warren R. "Butch" Liptok; son, Warren R. Liptok Jr. of Poca; brothers, Timothy W. Queen of Quinwood, Terry D. Queen of Woodlawn, Va., Mark A. Queen of Page, William A. "Bengie" Queen of Dawson; sister, Deborah E. Smith of Oak Hill.
Service will be 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. David Mitchell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m.
Private family burial will be in Montgomery Memorial Park on Saturday.

Mabel E. Medford
OAK HILL - Mabel E. Medford, 66, of Oak Hill went home to be with the Lord Nov. 11, 2002, in Columbia Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness.
Born July 30, 1936, in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Celeste Payne Cobern. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Franklin Lee Medford; her stepfather, Emil Wilson; a son, Gaylan Lee Medford; one brother, Jesse "Buck" Cobern; and grandson, Thomas "Andy" Medford.
Mrs. Medford was a housewife and a member of Summerlee Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her son, Thomas F. Medford and wife, Lynda, of Oak Hill; three daughters, Tammy L. Akers and husband, Benny, of Oak Hill, Theresa J. Hicks and husband, Randy, of Lansing, Heather Dawn Underwood and her husband, Scott, of Oak Hill; one sister, Margaret Mullins of Witcher Creek; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was retired from Sears, Roebuck, Charleston, W.Va., after 40 years of service.

James F. Wildey
James F. Wildey, 78, of Charleston died Nov. 10, 2002, at home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Nuriva, and was preceded in death by his second wife, Jean Wren, in 1993.
Jim was a 1942 graduate of Mullens High School and entered the Navy. He served in the Pacific during World War II. He then attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Norma Jean Hadden of Matoaka in 1948 and had three children.
Jim began his career with Bethlehem Mines Corporation in Idamay and Barrackville as a mine superintendent. He was promoted to director of safety and inspection and was transferred to corporate offices in Johnstown, Pa., in 1958. He served in that position until 1966 when he was promoted to oversee Bethlehem's Kayford-Boone Nicholas mining divisions as chief executive officer. He held this position until his retirement in 1989.
Jim was an elder of First Presbyterian Church, Charleston.
He is survived by Norma of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Cook of Mullens, Betty Lewis of Belpre, Ohio; three children, Jim of Annapolis, Md., Rick of Weymouth, Mass., Karen Sulay of Mount Shasta, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Charleston.

Lillian Frances Coalter Deaner, 84, a lifelong resident of St. Albans departed this life Nov. 12, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.
She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Albans. She was a member of St. Albans Womens Club and was a former employee of McClung & Morgan Department Store, St. Albans. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Albans High School and was chosen as the first Miss Red Dragon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edgar and Margaret Nurnberger Coalter; brothers, Charles E. Coalter Jr. and Joseph Nurnberger Coalter; sisters, Georgia Margaret Davis and Catherine Louise Austin.
She is survived by her husband, C.M. "Dick" Deaner; daughters and sons-in-law, Brooke and Barry Lee Gunnoe of Clover, S.C., Mary Margaret and William C. Kreiling of Conneaut Lake, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, C.M. She and her husband, Harry, had been living with their daughter, Nancy Hinkle in Virginia Beach, for the past 1 1/2 years.
Bess and Harry lived in Richwood for many years. She had been there 59 years and Harry lived there 95 years.
She is survived by her husband, Harry; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Randy Hinkle; son, Cecil Roberson; grandsons, Bryan Hinkle and Marvin Roberson; granddaughters, Shannon Schlademan and Cecelia Robinson; eight great-grandchildren.

Born June 27, 1915, in Kayford, the daughter of the late James and Felena Holesten Stanley, she was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Kanawha City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 1993.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Grant of Pinckney, Mich.; daughters, Loretta Evans of St. Albans, Diana Chandler of Cross Lanes; caregiver, Jean Hanshaw of Procious; sisters, Melvina Evans of Oak Hill; brother, Herf Stanley of Kanawha City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

CRAIGSVILLE - Esma Maude Legg Meynen, 77, of Craigsville died Nov. 12, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 6, 1925, at Tioga, she was a daughter of the late F.A. and Bertha Metz Legg. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Morton Legg, Marion "Pete" Legg, Marvin "Ike" Legg, and Mancil "Scoot" Legg; three sisters, Mable Legg, Mareda "Cub" Grose and Mary "Bunny" Sparks.
She was an avid reader and lover of birds and flowers. She attended the First Baptist Church at Craigsville.
She is survived by three sisters, including her twin, Mavis "Penny" McQuain of Rainelle, Martha "Libby" Whitsitt of Williamsburg, Va., Maxine "Ding" Malcomb of Tioga; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at White Funeral Home, Craigsville, with the Rev. David Sommerville officiating. Burial will be in Legg Family Cemetery, Tioga.
