He was a retired Army captain, having served in World War II and the Korean War, a member of Emmanuel Open Bible Church, Vago, and was a licensed minister with Open Bible Standard Churches.

She was the former owner of Duff's Coffee Shop in Spring Hill, W.Va., and Hurricane. She was born in Kenna, W.Va.
