ABINGDON, Va. -- C. Max Bailes, 70, of Abingdon, formerly of Richwood, W.Va., and Clay County, W.Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital after a massive heart attack.
He was the retired president of Clinchfield Coal Co., Dante, Va., a Mason, a member of Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church, Abingdon, an Army veteran and a graduate of Augusta Military Academy, Ford Deviance.
