CHAPMANVILLE -- Wesley Martin, 73, of Chapmanville died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, in Logan General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a 1942 graduate of Huntington High School, a Navy veteran of World War II, graduated cum laude from Marshall University in 1949 with a bachelor of science degree, a teaching certificate and a master's degree in educational administration, was a teacher at Chapman High School, Dehue Elementary, a teacher and principal at Mill Creek Elementary, a principal at Holden Grade and Junior High School and Logan East Junior High School, director of federal programs and superintendent of Logan County Schools, retiring in 1991. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Chapmanville, the WVEA, a former member and past president of Chapmanville Kiwanis Club, serving as former Kiwanis lieutenant governor, was awarded the 1980 Kiwanis Community Service and Citizenship Award and coached the first Kiwanis Red Legs Little League Team.
Surviving: wife, Gloria Hatfield; daughter, Deborah Martin Pappas of Huntington; son, John Wesley Martin of Justice Addition; father, Bill Martin of Silver Springs, Fla.; sisters, Ann Aldridge of Chesapeake, Ohio, Lahoma Tomblin of Huntington; five grandchildren.

He retired from the Navy, was a retired nautical technician from Nautical Supply Co., Jacksonville, Fla., and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
