HUNTINGTON -- Frederick Henry Gilpin, 80, of Huntington died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, in Knoxville, Tenn. He was the retired owner of W.W. Comco of Madison, a retail merchant, a Rotarian, Mason, Shriner, a member of United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, Ohio, and the VFW, an Army veteran of World War II and coordinator of the veteran reunions of the 103rd Combat Engineer Battalion of the 28th Infantry Division.
Surviving: wife, Marjorie Smith Gilpin; sons, Frederick R. Gilpin of Chesapeake, Thomas H. Gilpin of Huntington; daughter, Susan L. Pangle of Loudon, Tenn.; brother, Charles Gilpin of Jackson, Mich.; sister, Lois Wood of Detroit, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Northwestern University, was a retired research chemist from Union Carbide Tech Center, South Charleston, W.Va., with 22 years of service and was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church.
Surviving: wife, Janet Hill; daughter, Carol Michael of Tulsa; sons, Rick Hill of Dayton, Ohio, Doug Hill of Dallas, Texas; sister, Dorothy Hamory of Hershey, Pa.; five grandchildren. John Mason Roberts, 90, of St. Albans died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, in Betty's Personal Care Home, Nitro, after a long illness. He was a schoolteacher and postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service with 25 years of service, a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, St. Albans, where he was a Sunday school teacher and was an ordained Baptist minister, He was the top graduate with the 1929 graduating class of St. Albans High School where he played football, basketball and baseball, was a member of Sons of the Revolution and committeeman for Troop 143 National Council Boys Scouts of America.
Surviving: brothers, Walter of St. Albans, Leo of Jacksonville, Fla., Keith of Texas; several nieces and nephews. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rehoboth Baptist Church, St. Albans, with the Rev.
