Sarah M. "Sallie" Thomas, 63, of Route 8, South Charleston died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and an active member of the Baptist church.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Alice Counts Watson, 87, of Bloomington, formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died Monday, April 6, 1998, in Bromenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Ill., after a short illness.
She was a retired deputy clerk from the U.S. District Court of Southern West Virginia, a former member of Kanawha City Baptist Church, Charleston, a member of First Baptist Church, Bloomington, and Bloomington-Normal Women's Club, past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Charleston, and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Surviving: daughter, Luellen W. Laurenti of Normal; three nephews and a niece, including Alan Counts and Leslie Decker of Charleston.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. C.T. Bullington Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Charleston.

Danny R. Webb, 52, of South Charleston died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was a disabled miner from Cedar Coal Co., a member of the UMW and Trinity Independent Baptist Church, South Charleston.

ALDERSON -- John William Yurt, 74, of Alderson, formerly of Melbourne, Fla., died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, in Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center of lung cancer.
He was a retired service repair manager from Montgomery Ward with 18 years of service, former owner/operator of Associated Radio And TV, Orlando, Fla., former service repair manager for Sears, Titusville, Fla., and owner/operator of Yurt Repair Service, Alderson. He was an Army corporal with the 255th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II, recipient of the Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars, was a member of VFW Post 6723, Alderson, and Alderson Presbyterian Church.

Smithson Yurt; son, Mark Douglas Yurt Sr. of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Patricia Gail Bachand of Columbia, S.C., Carolyn Annette Salley of Salley, S.C.; brothers, Herman, Melvin, Walter and Alvin Yurt of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Catherine Wilson and Mary Russell of Louisville, Dorothy Weedman of Foley, Ala.; four grandchildren.

He was a Marine Corps corporal, serving in the Vietnam War, was a southern Florida real estate agent and a Methodist.

He retired from West Virginia State College and was an Episcopalian.
