John C. Steven Jr.
John C. Steven Jr., 58, of Charleston died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at home from cancer.
He retired from Union Carbide with 32 years of service, where he was manager of the South Charleston Data Center. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Charleston, chairman of the Christian Education Committee, lifelong resident of Charleston, graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering and received a masters in business adminstration from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. He was a founding member of Mountain State Railroad and Logging Historical Association, Cass. He was active in the Charleston Light Opera Guild and Kanawha Players. He was an admiral in the Cherry River Navy, member of Scholarship Committee of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, volunteer for West Virginia Harvest, executive secretary of Diabetes Camp of West Virginia and was assistant scout master for Troop 5.
Surviving: wife, Joan Steven; son, John III of Seaford, N.Y.; daughter, Janet Steven of Madison, Wisc.; brother, Addison of Fairport, N.Y.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary with the Rev. Dean Thompson, the Rev. Douglas Heidt and the Rev. Mark Lampley officiating. A reception will be held following the service at the church. She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and a member of Shiloh Community Church.

She was a retired nutritionist for the state of Florida and a member of North Brevard Church of Christ.

BECKLEY -- Florence Ellen Felter Webb, 81, of Beckley died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, in a Beckley hospital after a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Beckley, member of First Christian Church, Courthouse Square, and Anchor Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker, member of Bethlehem Chapter 71 Order of the Eastern Star, and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Judea Shrine 13.

He was a former deacon and elder of Summersville Presbyterian Church, former pilot with the Civil Air Patrol, a former member of New York Central Railroad Police Department, former Nicholas County Justice of the Peace and former sheriff and circuit clerk of Nicholas County. He was a retired businessman in Summersville, an active member of the Nicholas County Democratic Party and was named Nicholas County Democrat of the Year in 1994.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Carter V. "Dee" Ellis, 82, of Augustana Nursing Home, Minneapolis, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, in Minneapolis.
He was born in Fayetteville, W.Va., received a bachelor's degree from West Virginia State College, Institute, W.Va., and a master's degree from the University of Minnesota. He was a supervisor at the Minneapolis Post Office and became the first black teacher in the state of Minnesota.
