He was retired from Union Carbide Corp., where he had been employed as the foreman for the power plant, a World War I Army veteran and a member of the Worthington Senior Men's Golf Association. He was a 50-year member and past master of the Gauley Bridge Mason Lodge 64 AF & AM, past high priest of Royal Arch Chapter 47, Montgomery, past commander for Mount Hope Commandery 22 and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple AAONMS and was awarded the Knight York Cross of Honor. He was a member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church, an ordained Baptist deacon and a teacher of the men's Sunday school class.
